Who else has this fucking horrible coughing virus thing.

Aaaarrrgggh.

I've basically been coughing for 5 days, day and night. Lost my voice, sore throat, head/neck/ear ache.

Multiple negative covid tests. About 5 other people I know have had this and it's gone on for 2-3 weeks.

I'm going insane. Coughing so much that I'm gagging. Sad

My husband's been sick since mid September and I've been in for a fortnight. Not take to bed sick but low level cough, exhausted etc. I'm so over it.

Get well soon.

RagzRebooted · 13/11/2022 22:59

I'm at the end of about 3 weeks of it. Thankfully I wasn't particularly ill with it, it just dragged on but the cough drove me mad. Especially hard at work, having to leave the room to have a coughing fit (I'm a HCP, not a good look!). Many negative covid tests here too!

lightisnotwhite · 13/11/2022 23:00

Yep had it most of September into October. Perforated my eardrum from the cough. Covid all negative. Also felt run down and tired although only realised this now I feel better.
My dad also had it. Came to visit us because I think he thought he was on the way out. He’s better now.
Its not flu. Not ill, ill, but virus of some sort.

I've had some awful virus thing that isn't Covid, but comes with a terrible cough and it's the most ill I've felt in a very long time.

Crazy high temperature, aching all over, coughing constantly, headache, shaking, night sweats, and it's left me so run down I've got cold sores all over my lips and the inside of my mouth, including my tongue, and I'm SO tired. I'm starting to feel a little better, but DH and DS have it now and they're both really poorly, too. It's dreadful!

Hope anyone else suffering is better soon.

RagzRebooted · 13/11/2022 23:03

The only thing that helped my cough was codeine. It actually suppresses coughing. You used to be able to buy codeine linctus cough syrup, but it doesn't seem to exist now. Something similar called pholcodine does similar, with fewer of the negative opioid side effects. It's in certain branded cough syrups or you can buy a generic one, pharmacy OTC.

That sounds more like flu.

BeagleMumma · 13/11/2022 23:05

6 weeks and counting - I'm asthmatic too but just can't get into the doctor! Considering the walk in but I'd hate to waste their time if it's just viral and not a chest infection.

HotPotato787 · 13/11/2022 23:06

ohh no, this sounds like what me and the 2 dc have had for the past week. I was hoping that it would end quickly, not liking the idea of this dragging on much longer.

Get well soon all.

LearnerCook · 13/11/2022 23:06

Me & my husband gave this but I just put it down to flu! I've been poorly for a week and my husband 4 days.

Hope everyone feels better soon.

DoThePropeller · 13/11/2022 23:11

Here too, big family lunch last Sunday (18 of us) and only two people remain well. High temp, cough, sore throat, headaches, body aches, nausea. It’s grim.

lightisnotwhite · 13/11/2022 23:11

Yeah but it’s not flu because you can still function. Flu you can’t get out of bed.

I also had night sweats, mouth ulcers and cold sores. It’s a virus wearing you down. Really annoying as I’m not a illness prone person. I’m sure it’s Covid related though as the symptoms are universal and not had anything pre Covid for years.

CatWithARabbit · 13/11/2022 23:15

Same here ! Coughing for almost three weeks, no energy, no appetite, constantly tired, sneezing has re started. Not Covid - v fed up with it now !

Miss03852 · 13/11/2022 23:20

I have the same but it is Covid, but I kept testing negative at first, maybe try another test? It can take awhile to be positive

3ShotsOfEspresso · 13/11/2022 23:25

I’m at 3 weeks, DH 4. It’s deffo stabby week now and many inanimate objects are feeling my tired wrath. And deffo not Covid - been doing LFTs and two PCRs a week for work.

SO ANNOYING.

HeechulOppa · 13/11/2022 23:25

I’m on week 5 and am genuinely considering nappies at this point. My torso hurts so much, I think I’ve pulled every muscle in it through coughing.

Flanjango · 13/11/2022 23:35

Oh blimey. Yes! I'm getting over it now, week three. Sons stopped being sick with the cough now but daughter has just lost her voice. All tested...non covid. Coughed so hard I cried down my legs.

Dontaskdontget · 13/11/2022 23:40

Is clearly covid.

The lft tests were extremely unreliable when they were first invented and now the virus is mutating so much the lft tests aren’t gonna pick it up often.

Agreed. I had it for ages and it took so many tests before I was positive. Also certain times of the day you can be negative, in the morning my symptoms are the worst so I tested and then finally had a positive test

This is me and it's driving me crazy I've had the cough for weeks
I wake up coughing having a choking fit, I'm coughing all day my chest is raw my throat is raw and nothing is helping
I'm asthmatic but the inhalers don't help, I've sucked every throat sweet, drank lemon and honey water, ginger and lemon tea and nothing helps
I'm coughing like I'm never going to stop it's driving me crazy

earsup · 13/11/2022 23:47

Had it for over a week...now moved onto sinus etc....friends have had the cough for over 2 weeks.....the coughing brings on headaches....so bored of being stuck at home with no energy....keep doing the covid tests but all negative...if they work...!!

MilkshakesBringAllTheCoosToTheYard · 13/11/2022 23:48

Yep, was properly sick for 2 weeks, exhausted for week 3, still coughing in week 5. Took me ages to get rid of it. Was coughing so much I was peeing myself, it was horrendous! My sympathies OP.

Snugglemonkey · 13/11/2022 23:48

I had covid from the end of August until mid September, but the breathlessness was still bothering me into October. Then I was ok for about a fortnight, then got some kind of bug. Bunged up, cough, killer headache. On week 3. So sick of being sick!

fdgdfgdfgdfg · 14/11/2022 00:15

All three of us have had it over the past couple of months. I'm about a month in and I'm still not 100%, cough still not totally gone and sweating like a pig after the slightest exertion. DP and DD got through it far faster. Tested negative for covid throughout.

Gruffling · 14/11/2022 00:26

We have it - pretty sure it's Covid. We haven't had a positive test, but haven't really been bothering to do many as they cost money and what's the point? DC had Covid toes, you don't get that from anything but Covid.
