Aaaarrrgggh.

I've basically been coughing for 5 days, day and night. Lost my voice, sore throat, head/neck/ear ache.

Multiple negative covid tests. About 5 other people I know have had this and it's gone on for 2-3 weeks.

I'm going insane. Coughing so much that I'm gagging. Sad

I managed to get my hands on some pholcodine medicine after someone on here recommended it, it definitely helped me at night get a better sleep after nights of hell with broken sleep. What I will say is I probably took slightly too much as I was a walking zombie and was dubious if it would work, the next day I felt a little groggy so something to be aware of! My cough is still pretty bad but getting some sleep was a life saver!

On my 2nd week, caved in and went to GP, got an infection so steroids and antibiotics now praying for some relief I’ve had enough now. Don’t get sick pay so that’s Christmas pretty well fucked. Feeling proper sorry for myself today.

MrsSlavere · 18/11/2022 23:02

I'm on day 8 of this. Still waking up coughing 5 times a night. Blowing my nose non stop.

Nothing is touching it. I've tried all of the OTC lemsip beechams night nurse corvonia linctus etc etc. Also done the folk remedies aka raw garlic, eaten multiple very hot curries, whisky, steam baths, nose bottles.

I even hit the codeine stash a couple nights ago I had left over from an op and that took the edge off the sinus and neck pain, but not completely. I've done LFTs every couple days and they're all negative.

I swear I'm going to crack a rib if this goes on, my poor chest is ruined from coughing.

Have actually pissed myself twice while coughing 😂 it's not funny but I'll cry if I don't laugh. This is way worse than when I had covid.

A couple of people I work with have it - they're in California.

colouringindoors · 21/11/2022 11:40

Me. Kept going through dd special birthday weekend and feel horrendous today.

Co-codamol is my friend though - as someone said above codeine suppresses cough - so take a dose at bedtime... also helps with pain of severe sore throat. Obv don't take for more than a few days etc...

I have a physically demanding job which I really need to be able to do this week from tomorrow (as much less work after this week) but very apprehensive.

Warm drinks seem more comforting. Orange squash with honey in... going to mainline vit c as well and 🤞🤞🤞

mushr00m · 21/11/2022 11:41

Yep we all had it, mine got better then back again. I'm worried it might be covid again. It's like a low grade cough constantly. The headaches are horrendous.

GreenPalmTree · 20/12/2022 03:06

Just bumping this in case this is stilll going around…

on day 6 of this - blocked ear and a cough which is painful and quite violent, can’t sleep at all with it. Seems to be more in my throat than lungs. Feels different to when I had Covid in the summer.

anyone else?

Cheesybiscuitsmineallmine · 24/12/2022 13:06

Can anyone who had this say how long it took for them to feel better? A fortnight in now and still feeling terrible 😞

AuntieEntity · 27/12/2022 11:39

I don't want to depress anyone but I've had it for at least 8 weeks now, and that includes taking a week's worth of antibiotics. Occasionally get blocked ears too. Drs continue to say chest is clear and to take over the counter remedies.

Joining after waking yesterday like I'd been hit by a bus, my 8 year old ds is on day 4 and only really spiking a temperature in the morning, will take calpol fine but gags with nurofen, so dh went on a mad dash yesterday (thank you boots pharmacy being open) to try the nurofen melts, he took them once felt much better, to the point he was up playing /bickering with his siblings, the next time it came to taking them I found them down the loo because he doesn't like the taste, now he's back to coughing and looking like a ghost, we are meant to be going on holiday on Friday and I can't see how it's possibly viable at this point, I was sobbing like a spoilt child this morning feeling very sorry for myself and rough as a badgers arse, sounds brattish but my youngest had his first seizure on Christmas day last year, spent Christmas in his hospital then his second on the morning we were meant to leave for new year holiday last year, diagnosed with Epilepsy after and obviously i was so relieved he was ok and that's all that matters but had my heart set on making it up to the kids this year because they were so sympathetic and understanding, not one of them complained once and spent new year learning first aid for seizure to look after their brother, and here I am hanging out my arse trying every bloody method i can find to get my son and myself better, sorry, massive pity post, and an essay of selfish misery, it loves company though right 🤦🏻‍♀️

JenniferBooth · 27/12/2022 22:56

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 27/12/2022 23:16

I've had it 14 days now. DH about 3 weeks. My ribs hurt from coughing

CoffeeBoy · 27/12/2022 23:21

Im on day 10. Covid negative

headache, sore throat, cough, upset stomach/shits, achy, weak, off food, struggling to sleep, feel I can’t breath

toastfiend · 27/12/2022 23:21

I joined this thread back in November, but mine turned out to be Covid then. Since recovering from Covid I've basically been ill non-stop, every time I clear one virus I catch another. Latest one started with a random chesty cough a few days ago, then terrible nausea and loss of appetite for 2 days, now I'm coughing and coughing and coughing. Every time I dropped off to sleep last night I'd wake up with a coughing fit to the point where I was retching and felt like I couldn't catch my breath. The muscles in my abdomen are so painful from it all. It's dreadful. I didn't have a cough with Covid, really, but whatever this latest virus is I have never had a cough like it, it's so violent and persistent.

Barneyboy82 · 31/12/2023 14:02

I had the coughing and the rest but the F..king bit hasnt come my way

CathyorClaire · 31/12/2023 20:50

Re-joining to say I now have this coughing plague too 😡Been snorking on a three/four week cycle since I had Covid (2nd time) in September 😡

This one started mildly on 27th but now into full coughing up a lung mode every time I lay down. I think I've caught it from dd who came home trumpeting Xmas Eve. She says the worst lasts a couple of days but she's half my age and I'm not convinced 😡

Weeteeny · 31/12/2023 21:10

We have all had it, 2 teenagers first then DH and I.
We each had it for 4 - 5 weeks with the first 12 days the worst. Coughing incessantly and uncontrollably. Painful and dry and chesty. I was really breathless and all of us coughing so much we lost appetites and were sick. Not nice at all.
I did a covid test and negative .

I hope you are better soon
