Aaaarrrgggh.

I've basically been coughing for 5 days, day and night. Lost my voice, sore throat, head/neck/ear ache.

Multiple negative covid tests. About 5 other people I know have had this and it's gone on for 2-3 weeks.

I'm going insane. Coughing so much that I'm gagging. Sad

DH had it milder than me (also tested positive for Covid after a few days) and he swears decongestants (sudafed) helped him with the cough because it helped him with that back drip that triggers the urge to cough. I can't take sudafed though, it makes me sort of high. (Not in a good way.)
On a positive note I am coughing a bit less every day.

He is symptom free now but still testing positive.

healthadvice123 · 14/11/2022 23:24

Yes cough constantly for about a week then still a bit at night for another two
Covid tests negative as well

msssm · 14/11/2022 23:31

I had this for a few days before I tested positive for covid. I'm floored.
Cough. Throat ear and neck pain. Horrible headaches. Nausea. Dizziness. Diahorrea. Weak bladder. It's awful.
I hope it passes soon for me and everyone else 💐

I started with a major sore throat for 2/3 days, then I lost my voice, then I started coughing. Felt shocking but was able to work at home. Felt better for a couple of days then my chest properly tightened up and was given antibiotics by my doctor which cleared my cough up, mainly. Felt better for a week but the cough has properlt come back! Tested negative throughout, but pulled a muscle round my ribs and my left lung is not quite right. It's left me feeling very breathless.

BogRollBOGOF · 15/11/2022 00:05

DS is just emerging from it after a long week and his second multi-day absence from school since September when he promptly went down with another heavy cold. I've not tested him as he's covered the minimum amount of suggested time at home resting anyway.
He hadn't knowingly had Covid since 2020, but was hit hard by a nasty virus in December 2019 that with hindsight, behaved in a very early-Covid way.

The coughing's been exhausting for him and ruined his sleep. He started throaty, went to a hacking cough then had normal cold symptoms which is an unusual order. The cough is now a more normal end-of-cold type cough.

Sounds like RSV virus. My 2 year old had this

In the Australian winter period, RSV circulated widely amongst adults and children. My DH and I were taken down for about 6 weeks by it and it does sound very similar to the descriptions by PP. I thought it was a virus predominantly suffered by children, but no!

kissmelittleass · 15/11/2022 02:54

Another sleepless night just non stop coughing fed up of this now and my pelvic floor is in bits

CanadianJohn · 15/11/2022 03:19

I've found my people! I've been coughing since February, GM prescribed penicillin, didn't help much. GP then sent me for a chest x-ray... said my lungs were clear.

I have an appointment with an internist specializing in lungs on Thursday. With my kind of luck, my cough will disappear the day before.

Mommabear20 · 15/11/2022 03:27

Been up coughing for the last 2 hours and now being sick because of it 😭

Yabado · 15/11/2022 03:47

I started coughing yesterday
when I swallow my throat hurts
i can cope with most things but not a sore throat

AuntieEntity · 15/11/2022 03:48

Yes, here. DD and I have both been pretty wrecked by it. DD started with a really bad cough which made her sick, ulcers in her mouth, tiredness.

For me I've been peeing myself, strained ribs and neck due to heaving and retching, and I've pulled a muscle in my side. Terrible headaches and tiredness. I've been sick multiple times, including in the shower yesterday morning. I even wet myself in front of my exDP yesterday when he came to collect DD. It's incessant. Negative for COVID but RSV is rife apparently.

The only positive is that I've lost weight because of it.

CheapWine · 15/11/2022 04:24

I had it in June, lasted over five weeks, in the end I went to the GP as it wasn’t any better. The muscular and rib cage pains from coughing lasted about 12 weeks and I still have excess mucus/phlegm five months later. Now have to provide sputum and stool samples.

SD1978 · 15/11/2022 05:04

Laryngitis? It's not that uncommon after/ with cold symptoms. Have had it every year for years. The squeaking/ no voice is very annoying!

Snugglemonkey · 15/11/2022 05:50

Mine is bronchitis apparently. Just hoping it clears before my baby comes.

Shoreditchintheafternoon · 15/11/2022 06:03

My husband currently has this! Non stop coughing for a week. Lfts negative. Ive never known him be this bad.
Not sure if it's a coincidence but I had both my flu jab and covid jab two weeks ago and all I've had is a runny/blocked nose.

Sn0tnose · 15/11/2022 07:07

I started off with a stinking cold, but with the most painful ulcers in my mouth. No coughing at all. I started feeling lots better and had my flu jab and Covid booster and within a few days, developed the most awful cough. I’m bringing up all sorts of disgusting stuff and coughing so hard I’m throwing up. And I could sleep for a month. And the fucking ulcers have come back.

holierthanthou73 · 15/11/2022 07:14

driving me mad this cough day 6 must go back to work but coughing and heaving is not great in and office environment

Ringmaster27 · 15/11/2022 07:23

Today is the first day in the past 2 weeks I’ve woken up and feel relatively normal. My throat is still a little sore, but I’m no longer coughing, nose isn’t blocked anymore and my sinuses aren’t on fire. I had numerous negative covid tests too.
My boss who I work closely with has been the same for the past couple of weeks, and so has my best friend - although very strange that neither mine or my best friends children have shown any of the same symptoms despite being in close quarters 🤷🏻‍♀️

camperjam · 15/11/2022 07:47

I'm on week 3 now and still feel awful. I can't remember the last time I felt this ill. I took a whole week off work to rest as much as I could but I'm still worn out.
Covid tests have all been negative and I feel worse than when I had covid last year. So who knows what it is

Workinghardeveryday · 15/11/2022 08:58

My dd11 has it.

she came home from school on Friday night in tears, said she felt sick and it burned when she breathed.

Saturday she developed the cough. Coughing day and night, never known a cough like it.

Last night we had to call an ambulance, she fainted. It was really strange, apart from the cough and blocked nose she was okay. She had eaten lunch. Then at about 4.30 I covid tested her, we were giggling while I did her throat, she was fine. She sat down to do her nose herself, I turned around to see to dinner for about a minute. Went back to her and she was sitting there looking vacant. I asked her where the bud was and she just stared at me. Then she stood up and fell around like she was drunk. I thought she was just being silly.

She walked into the dining room and did it again and ended up on the floor. Her lips were totally white and she was sweating and hot. Took her temperature and it was 35.4! Oxygen levels went for 99-91 up and down. Pulse 120.

I rang 111 and the sent blue lights that were here very soon. They don’t know what caused it. Blood sugar fine.

She has never done anything like that before, was scary!!

Ilovepugs2017 · 15/11/2022 15:11

Anyone got a sore neck/shoulders with it aswell?

VanellopeVonSchweetz99 · 15/11/2022 16:07

Workinghardeveryday that is terrifying! Was she admitted? How is she now?

BeyondMyWits · 15/11/2022 16:29

About the first 20 customers at the pharmacy this morning had it. Difflam or Chloraseptic throat spray and Pholcodine Linctus flying off the shelves. Worth knowing that pholcodine is a cough suppressant so don't take it if it is a productive cough or even slightly chesty as all that gunk needs to come out.

There is something about , that's for sure

Yes, me. Really sore neck! Assumed it was down to the coughing. I woke up the other morning and felt like I'd been beaten up! and that was before I wet myself and was sick in the shower

RuthW · 15/11/2022 16:54

Yes me. Had covid and was ill 12 hours. Three weeks later and I get this virus. I'm just about better now after three weeks. It's awful.
