Who else has this fucking horrible coughing virus thing.

Aaaarrrgggh.

I've basically been coughing for 5 days, day and night. Lost my voice, sore throat, head/neck/ear ache.

Multiple negative covid tests. About 5 other people I know have had this and it's gone on for 2-3 weeks.

I'm going insane. Coughing so much that I'm gagging. Sad

@RuthW I'm wondering whether this is what has happened to me. My whole team at work were off with COVID recently and I didn't seemingly catch it - I wonder if I now did, and this virus is a second go at kicking my arse.

I've also noticed that I'm significantly worse in the morning, not too bad in the day and then at 5pm (like clockwork!) I'm back to coughing incessantly and peeing my pants.

Have been poorly for nearly a month and am SO over it.

Shoreditchintheafternoon, I wondered about flu jab preventing it - DH was already starting to feel slightly unwell on the Saturday we had our flu jabs, maybe my jab kicked in quickly enough to not be affected. It was odd that DH was so unwell but me, nada.

🙋‍♀️
I've got it too 🙁

Mine is just going week 5! i was convinced it was covid . Negative tests though. I have felt thoroughly miserable . Hacking cough . Then cold sores i was so run down. I starting taking double dose vitamin C maybe coincidence but I’m starting to feel better . It’s been a long miserable 5 weeks

Oceancreature · 15/11/2022 19:38

We’ve had it - aches, cough, fatigue and fever. Only just feeling right again after 5 weeks!

Workinghardeveryday that is terrifying! Was she admitted? How is she now?

It really was! She didn’t go in, they said they were happy to take her given what happened etc, but they thought she would be ok. Took her to docs today, he checked her, said lots of rest/sleep/fluids.

she does seem a bit brighter today which is great. Other two kids now seem to be going the same way!

kissmelittleass · 15/11/2022 20:27

I had my flu and covid vaccine a month ago so it hasn't helped me
I've had a cough on and off since May, had antibiotics didn't work, sent for a chest X-ray all clear, then put on a preventer inhaler ( I have mild asthma that has never bothered me)
The inhaler calmed the coughing down after a few months of coughing then I had a week respite and caught another shitty cough virus that lasted six weeks then about another week cough free and my dd brought home a hacking cough virus from school and here I am again so in six months I've literally been coughing
My throat is raw now the cough is today and the past few days has been relentless
Tonight I noticed a prominent bone sticking out at the bottom of my neck don't remember seeing it before don't know if I've done something with all the coughing
No sleep barely got an hour or two last night I just kept waking up choking thank god for this site I was getting worried I had something worrying

CanadianJohn · 16/11/2022 17:00

Well shoot, I had an appointment with the specialist tomorrow...and it's just been postponed... rescheduled for Nov 25th. That means I gotta keep my cough going for another week.

Softplayhooray · 16/11/2022 17:23

I had it! Or at least something that sounds very similar. In the end constant use of a humidifier was the only thing that worked. I still use it weeks later actually else I get a bit of a dry cough coming back occasionally.

fairycupcakes · 16/11/2022 20:54

So sorry to hear so many are suffering with this!!
I’m on week 4 of the most horrendous cough I’ve ever had/heard. For the first 2 and a half weeks it would also wake me up in the night and I’d have a coughing fit for about an hour so I was exhausted! As was poor DH because it was disturbing his sleep too. It would be constant through the day and I thought if it’s not gone by this week I’d make a drs appointment so I’m being seeing Monday morning! I can’t even describe the kind of noise this cough is making. It was initially barking and somewhat productive and very chesty and then dry and prolonged coughs not the normal cough cough if that makes sense but not quite a wheeze? It feels really deep in my lungs and sore around my sternum. (I have asthma too as some other PPs and inhaler is doing nothing) my upper back is in agony and has been since about week 2. I’m inclined to think bronchitis but it’s unlike anything I’ve ever had before. I got off far easier when I had covid!

fairycupcakes · 16/11/2022 20:58

Just to add in the first week I also had what felt like the flu and was bed-bound about 3 days completely wiped out and the following days after that one ear was completely blocked and then that resolved in a couple of days and then the cough just carried on and on and on and still won’t go. Any drs on here with any advice at all? Seeing mine Monday but if I can do anything in the meantime to lessen the coughs and the subsequent upper back, neck and rib pain I’d be so grateful!

CathyorClaire · 16/11/2022 21:01

Hmmm. Not sure this is the same lurgy but the cough subsided after 2.5 weeks and I'm not quite over emptying my sinuses into a tissue 3+ weeks on although not so often now.

I'll still take it after the Covid taste/smell debacle of the summer that lasted more than twice as long.

GreenTeaTuesdays · 16/11/2022 21:23

Omg I think I have this but am only on day 4.. not the thread I wanted to read!

kissmelittleass · 17/11/2022 00:35

@fairycupcakes yes I had the completely blocked ear for a day or two as well and then it went..very strange I just wish the coughing would go I'm worn out from it I feel like I'm going to damage my lungs or fracture something

Really odd, I agree!! Ah me too, I don’t know how my ribs are all still intact 😫

Caramelhoneygold · 17/11/2022 00:54

Wide awake with it now Sad

GreenTeaTuesdays · 17/11/2022 10:35

My throat feels red raw from all the coughing.. ulcers and snot streaming everywhere too.

Pelvic floor is also finding this challenging.

Any remedies out there to ease it? I'm having hot squash and honey when I can't have any more painkillers which is soothing it a bit but not really making much difference Sad

AuntieEntity · 17/11/2022 12:10

@GreenTeaTuesdays Just back from the GP for the second time and was advised codeine-based cough medicine or, get this, smash up some codeine and make a tincture. Though I have to say, racking up some lines of codeine on my living room table might cheer me up somewhat.

Caramelhoneygold · 17/11/2022 12:12

I’m newly pregnant so guessing codeine isn’t safe Sad

OceanbreezeSun · 17/11/2022 12:30

Day 3 over here.
It feels like a bad cold to me. Very congested, blowing my nose every 10 minutes. Headache, sore nose when I breath in, tired , horrible sleep , awake in early hours for about 3 hours before I fall back to sleep. It’s worse in the morning.

Our toddler had it first, poor lass. It’s the first time she’s had a cold, streaming nose, now a chesty cough, but she seems over the worse if it, touch wood.

I’m 29 weeks pregnant, so feeling very sorry for myself.
Pretty sure it’s not covid. We had that earlier in the year and it was very mild for us. This is worse. Symptoms feel different., more cold like. Urghhhh.

MattDamon · 17/11/2022 13:01

I had this in June after a flight. Throat so sore I was in tears, never ending cough. Tested negative for Covid. Lasted a few weeks.

I've just started up the exact same symptoms and tested positive for Covid on the second day. Bloody miserable.😫

GreenTeaTuesdays · 17/11/2022 14:21

Thanks @AuntieEntity .. some lines of coedine sound great right about now. In all seriousness, will get some cough medicine. How long have you had it?

AuntieEntity · 17/11/2022 14:32

@GreenTeaTuesdays I've had it for nearly a month. DD has had it for longer but thankfully isn't as poorly as I am and has been back and forth to school. The GP I saw said they've seen a lot of it recently - a seemingly viral/bacterial thing where the chest is clear but it seems like the patient has a chest infection.

MrsArchchancellorRidcully · 17/11/2022 14:32

I'm finally better after a long 4 weeks of it. Lost my appetite. Body aching with coughing . Had to sleep upright to avoid coughing all night. Plus the worst tasting phlegm. Like I'd been smoking. 20 a day buy with a sweet taste too. Just awful. No energy.
Threw up several times with coughing.
I ended up on antibiotics last week and I'm finally feeling better and have a normal cough.

Tilda77 · 17/11/2022 14:40

I woke up with it this morning. A throat like I've been swallowing razor blades and a hacking cough.I think it had been brewing for a few days as I've felt exhausted. DS has had it for 2 weeks so it was probably inevitable I'd catch it. DH had a different illness altogether last week. He had a roaring temperature for 3 days and was really poorly. No man flu dramatics needed with whatever he had it knocked him for six. It's been one thing after another since the beginning of September . There hasn't been a week when the 4 of us have all been well. Hopefully we will all be germ free by Christmas!
