I hate the EU too. When I moved abroad for work the country I moved to were being a pain about my right to work there. So I contacted the EU to ask them precisely what the rules were. You know what they did? Immediately got their lawyers onto it. Within 2 days they'd kicked the arses of the department of immigration and I got a grovelling apology and my residency card. The bastards! Who do they think they are protecting citizen's rights like that?

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/11/2022 19:47

God, I'm depressed.

Wonder what they are going to push through tomorrow in the name of austerity 2.0

the80sweregreat · 16/11/2022 19:52

More austerity ? Council tax is a total con :(
It's going to be carnage tomorrow

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2022 19:55

It's going to be a very depressing day.

the80sweregreat · 16/11/2022 19:58

It will be :(
They have royally messed up.

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/11/2022 20:00

I'd guess the markets will react badly so further misery for anyone with an unfixed mortgage

Councils putting council tax up by 10%

Cuts to education, nhs and police

What a shitshow

the80sweregreat · 16/11/2022 20:06

It really really is
Unless your rich , it's just more misery

tobee · 16/11/2022 20:17

itsgettingweird · 16/11/2022 19:55

It's going to be a very depressing day.

Oh well at least we have lovely long warm, dry days to enjoy and take our minds off it all at the moment.

Oh wait...

tobee · 16/11/2022 20:47

This isn't really relevant (Grin) but I wash just looking to buy a new toilet brush and scrolling down Wayfair and I see that there most expensive straightforward brush and holder is £345.99! I mean that's Wayfair, I'm not that familiar with them but it's not exactly Harvey Nichols is it?

tobee · 16/11/2022 20:49

Here it is! Only 7 left in stock!

Surely a Boris toliet brush is what you need?

DS bought me 1 last year as he knows my views!

Thatsasmashingblouseyouvegoton · 16/11/2022 21:07

Ds1 enjoyed his Donald trump toilet roll a couple of years ago...

I don't understand why Labour don't defend themselves. When JRM stood up at PMQs today and highlighted bullying within the Labour party, he said one had been removed from the party and another had been suspended.

If that's the case then surely to God that shows that Labour have dealt with bullying, rather than the Tory tactic of denial and brush it under the carpet.

Why on earth is someone from the opposition bench not retaliating and counter-arguing things like this? It should have been a Tory own goal.

Piggywaspushed · 17/11/2022 06:49

Isn't there some bizarre parliamentary etiquette that means you can't directly rebut unless its 'your turn'? They have so many arcane rules.

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2022 06:52

JRM , the King of 'Whataboutary '

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2022 06:57

The daily Mail was going with ' it's the global downturn ' for today's budget being grim.
The conservatives trotted that one out in the early 90s as well!

Notonthestairs · 17/11/2022 08:31

I think Budget Bingo might need to be played differently today - points for what they avoid mentioning. So minimal references to the impact of the last "fiscal event", Brexit deal and failure of levelling up.

It's ALL about global pressures which the Conservatives have had nothing to do with. And never mind that our EU neighbours (if not thriving) are definitely doing better.

Notonthestairs · 17/11/2022 08:32

First line tells you everything about how today is going to be framed.

The UK is facing the effects of the global economic crisis.

An economist tries to talk about Brexit.

So accurate it set my teeth on edge.

Absolutely

And watch out for the use of scapegoats Angry

The first words will be
' global events, Ukraine , the pandemic '
Nothing about Liz truss or wasting money there

DuncinToffee · 17/11/2022 09:09

We need to keep asking

Why is our economy doing worse than the EU & US given that they've had to deal with Ukraine & Covid as well?

I'm here for the budget bingo! Will be trying not to throw things at the TV.

the80sweregreat · 17/11/2022 09:16

Brexit is the elephant in the room
Nobody will mention that
Hunt looks pleased to be delivering bad news
I bet he can't wait

DuncinToffee · 17/11/2022 09:20

This is so true

This is going to be one of those times they tell us
"We're all in the same boat" just like in the pandemic.

In reality we're all facing the same storm, but some of us are in dingies and some of them are in super-yachts.
