I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

The wild storm which had us in its grip for the last few days has finally passed. I'm not missing the biting NNW wind. I went out for about 20 minutes on Friday and came in with my face hurting. Today dawned bright and clear, and we heard and saw thousands of southbound geese above us, taking advantage of the more settled atmospheric conditions. It's pretty amazing to think of them all finding their way south and then back again for thousands of years, following the shore of Lake Michigan and then the Mississippi.

Deathraystare · 21/11/2022 07:08

@mathanxiety

Reading about 'your' geese reminded megg of 'mine'ihear them fly over in the morning and evening. Not sure where they are headed exactly but I am near a river (Thames. I have seen a few in Richmond) there are also wetlands. Not as many birds as you get though!

I have to be up and out today as my purse was taken whilst I was on the bus. More inconvenient than anything and at least none of my bus passes were in my purse.

For American readers a purse is like a wallet not what we call a handbag and you call a purse! I think you call it a pocket book??.

Whenever I read or listened to an American crime novel, a woman was always taking something out of or putting into their purse you can imagine my confusion! How can they fit that in their purse?!!

Last night on Amazon I was looking to order a new purse and realised I was on Amazon.com not UK because the purses were huge and more like handbags!!!!

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/11/2022 08:15

*Death" My problem, too. I wondered until I looked up purse including pictures. 😀

The sun is out and we have finally put the heating on in rooms were people work.
All other rooms are on maintenance heating to avoid mould etc.

MissConductUS · 21/11/2022 14:44

Math, you must have gotten the western edge of the storm that left 6-7 feet of snow south of Buffalo. It was bitter cold here this morning, 22F/-5C.

Death, I wasn't aware of that particular linguistic conflict. Here a wallet is small, and where you keep cash, credit cards and in the past, personal checks. People don't write checks much anymore. Purse, hand bag and pocket book are used interchangeably in the US.

We had our weekly family Zoom call last night and finalized plans for picking DD up at Uni tomorrow.

We are back from hotel and seeing DS twice in hospital. He was not great and staff said they had gone in with a ball yesterday and asked him to roll it to them if he wanted them to go away. He rolled it to them.

I went swimming twice in hotel pool which was nice, was only 20 minutes or so first time as closing but did a bit over a mile swimming today and a good time in pool. Aqua aerobics with 80s music was going on at the same time, full of what looked like retired women who were doing as much chatting as aerobics but it looked fun and social.

Had breakfast in the room at hotel and we also had a Premium Room so had a full mini bar of stuff. I had a strawberry cider and DH had a beer last night.

Hope it goes well picking DD up Miss

Thanks Half and Iwandered

Glad storm has passed Math

Hope you are feeling OK Prok

I had a day which looked productive on paper but in reality felt frustrating. I have had my onboarding for my work-based training qualification. I have to evidence 418hrs of off-the-job learning in the next 18 months…

sproutsandparsnips · 22/11/2022 22:31

Ah Silkie that sounds lovely, glad you managed it though sorry that DS is still suffering.
Helena eek I have just completed my masters and the dissertation was a work based learning one. I struggled with getting what they wanted.......

MissConductUS · 23/11/2022 00:46

I'm glad you're enjoying the hotel stay Silkie. I'm already looking forward to my conference in Orlando in February. I hope they have it at the same hotel as last time. It has such a lovely pool.

We left at 11:00 and got to DD's uni around 2:00, and were home by 5:30. Traffic wasn't bad on the way up but was much worse coming home, so we took the longer route through the Berkshires. DH was driving, so I took these pictures on the way home.

I made a pecan pie this afternoon with DD4, in order to teach her to make pastry.

She's going to attempt a pumpkin pie tomorrow.

Curious: Are you saying, "peeCAN" or "puhCON"?
I once had a friend who hailed from Mississippi tell me the latter was correct, with the former being something you used when sick. 🤣🤷‍♀️
It is one of my favourite pies! 😛Do you ever add chocolate for chocolate pecan pie? Also yum!
What a lovely way to spend the afternoon with your daughter. 😊

I made pastry as well; and a quiche with grape tomatoes, zucchini and goat cheddar. 😛

Taswama · 23/11/2022 08:13

Pecan pie sounds delicious.

Parkin is still going here, it keeps very well. No I'm not from Yorkshire @MissConductUS although apparently my surname does originate from there.
My recipe comes from the Oxfam Vegetarian cookbook from the mid 90s. I'm no longer a vegetarian but it's a great recipe.

MissConductUS · 23/11/2022 15:48

Pecan pie is delicious. I'm going to make an apple pie for tomorrow. It's traditional for us.

I've dropped DD off at her boyfriend's house so that they can start their trip. I've picked up dinner rolls at the bakery (soft, yeasty, buttery rolls), and I may make the holiday mashed potatoes today and reheat them tomorrow.

DS asked for a computer monitor to connect to his laptop. DH ordered him one from Dell and it came yesterday. DS took the package in, so it won't be a surprise.

Have a lovely thanksgiving MissC; Math and all the other American contingent.

Good Luck with your work based learning Helena it’s hard isn’t it fitting it all in!

Nothing new here, I feel exhausted all the time but it’s because haven’t slept a full night in like 8/9 weeks between DH being Ill and me

HelenaJustina · 24/11/2022 06:34

Happy Thanksgiving to our American contingent, hope you have lovely family celebrations. I’m thankful for so many things, it is good for the soul to stop and reflect on how fortunate we are.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/11/2022 07:42

Happy Thanksgiving to the Americans here. 🐔Remember: elastic waistbands! 🤣
Enjoy!!!! 😊

Happy Thanksgiving to MissC and Math

Floof was on the bed last night, he is getting big.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2022 11:41

Thanks for the Thanksgiving wishes, and the same to everyone!

I made the holiday mashed potatoes yesterday and the crust for the apple pie.

Silkie, he is getting big, and his tail is very floofy!

I've been ready to leave for work for many hours, I even nipped to the GP surgery for regular bloods. My boss is 3 hours late for work and 1 hour late for a pre booked allotted appointment, he fully intends to still go to the appointment and tell them that he's a special case so should still be seen immediately.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2022 12:27

Welcome, @ScarierThanBoo, and thanks for sharing your news. Is your boss's appointment also with the GP?

It's cold here, about -3C. I have to get on with the pie at some point. The men are doing the turkey, stuffing, and gravy.

I am so sorry, i posted on the wrong thread. I was complaining (albeit calmly), about my entitled boss walking over people lol I've just read back though, what a lovely idea for a topic.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2022 12:36

That's fine, scarier; feel free to participate or lurk as it suits you.

ScarierThanBoo · 24/11/2022 12:38

@MissConductUS you sound like you're having quite a lovely day, will there be cranberry? I'm a sloven so mine is from a jar. My boss isn't seeing a GP but they're an important and busy service who do have clients similar to a GP, he just expects to be seen despite now being very late. It's constant, he missed the funeral of someone we both know recently and this was after he demanded to be allowed to come after rhe family explained it was family only. I'm aghast at his behaviour.

MissConductUS · 24/11/2022 13:01

There will be cranberry sauce, from a can, I'm afraid. I'm not that big a fan, but DS loves it.

Your boss sounds like a tosser. There's a subreddit just for people like him with lots of amusing stories. You could post about him there.

The dinner sounds lovely MissC

Yes Floof has a very floofy tail and he is super proud of it and trills at tail complements and shows it off putting it on display a lot. His tail is 40 cms long and his body 62cm so he is over 1 metre now. I heard DH say I love you Floof and how is my Pepere to him last night.

mathanxiety · 24/11/2022 19:07

Mr Floof is a magnificent feline, Silkies.

We're gearing up for our Thanksgiving dinner here. DS is cooking this year, and will get stuck in when he gets back from feeding, scritching, and complimenting his exGF's cat. She's out of town so the duty falls to him. The cat is a formerly feral animal who is now totally tame and confident in dealing with people.

DD4 made a pumpkin pie and pecan pie yesterday, and also cranberry and orange sauce. The turkey is brining, and the leftovers from breakfast are in the fridge. I need to wash the gravy boat.
