I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Happy Thanksgiving to all who celebrate today.

Fluff is an absolutely marvelous cat!

DN's Grisu has taken control of the hot water bottles. The are his and he expects them to be filled at regular intervalls.😀

MissConductUS · 24/11/2022 20:52

DS and DH have been hard at work in the kitchen. I made the pie, which will go in the oven while we eat. Now that the turkey is out, the mashed potatoes and stuffing go in the oven, and DH will make gravy.

Happy Thanksgiving Miss, Math & all who celebrate it.
I'm hungry now Grin

Silkierabbit · 25/11/2022 13:55

Hope all the Thanksgiving meals were lovely, they sound so much better than our KFC.

Just been to hygienist and she said my gums have survived chemo far better than average and are good. She said my teeth were surprisingly clean for someone who has not been to hygienist for 10 years. I was not sure whether to believe her but glad she was kind.

Having issues with Tamoxifen only been prescribed one month at a time and a different brand each time at our chemist but have found a chemist which will keep me my preferred brand. GP still only prescribing one month at a time.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/11/2022 15:25

I am not allowed to the hygienist or dentist, but my teeth are at the moment not my main problem.
I got a pack of 100 Tamoxifem at a time as it was clear I needed it for 5 years.

We have found out that DS will eat the home made oven variant of french fries (Pommes) instead of the pre-baked oven variety, which reduces the price by 2/3 and plastic waste at the same time. On no account will he eat deep fried anything.

Always4Brenner · 25/11/2022 15:49

It’s a silly thing but fits in my old fashioned Christmas I’ve got chestnuts they’re put away for over Christmas warmed up in the oven with salt on. Cheesecake brought slices and put in the freezer. Arthritis giving me hell today so in cosy pjs now and throws.

MissConductUS · 25/11/2022 15:55

Prok, so are you cutting up the potatoes at home and baking them? Do you add any vegetable oil?

The turkey was really good, noticeably better than the frozen ones, and we have lots of leftovers. We will get another one if we're cooking next Thanksgiving.

We did have one small disaster. I made the pie crust on Wednesday night and put it in the pie dish, then put both in the fridge. Somehow yesterday DS was taking something out of the fridge and the pie dish fell onto the tile floor and broke. I binned the dish and the crust. Fortunately, I had another pie dish and made another crust. The backup pie dish is pyrex. I've ordered another ceramic one. DS felt bad about breaking it, but I assured him that it wasn't a big deal.

DS has decided to go to Boston for the weekend to see his old roommate and some other friends. Driving back on Sunday is going to be a challenge due to the Thanksgiving day traffic. We will take DD back to uni Sunday morning while he comes home.

We had a lovely Thanksgiving meal, and I got the entire kitchen cleared afterwards. It's nice to stagger to the kettle in the morning and not be greeted by a sink full of washing up.

DD4's pumpkin pie was delicious, so she may well find herself on pie duty again at Christmas.

I grew up in a house and woke up to a sink full every morning my job was washing up every day as an adult I said never again.

MissConductUS · 26/11/2022 12:58

I'm glad you had a nice Thanksgiving, Math. DH does the washing up, and it took him a while after the meal. So many dishes mean a lot of cleanup.

We heard from DD yesterday. She had initially told us she was returning on Saturday night. That was fine as we need to get an early start on Sunday to take her back to uni. The traffic on the Sunday after Thanksgiving is horrible, probably the worst day of the year, and it's going to rain tomorrow afternoon.

She texted me yesterday saying she's coming home on Sunday, early afternoon. We told her that there was no way we were taking her back Sunday afternoon and that DH would take a day of annual leave and drive her back Monday morning, which would mean her missing her first class. Now she's back to coming home Saturday night. Her boyfriend's family went down in two cars. I suspect that her boyfriends' mum and sisters are coming home Saturday and he and his dad are returning on Sunday, and she wanted to ride with them.

Just had a call to say DS has broken his ipad, the hospital have no bathroom doors and cctv of the bathrooms and he was trying to make a door with a blanket and put ipad on top and it broke. Will take him another one, already complained about no bathroom doors.

IWanderedLonely · 26/11/2022 15:27

I'm sitting with a cup of tea after spending all day doing the pre-Christmas cleaning blitz. I found a woodlouse graveyard under our shoe cupboard Envy

IWanderedLonely · 26/11/2022 15:28

Miss daughters can be so exasperating, especially when they're late teens. My sympathies.

Deathraystare · 26/11/2022 15:55

I am afraid this might be a bit exciting! No where else to post though.

Had a great night with friends at Royal Albert Hall to watch Jools Holland and his Orchestra. We were up in the Gods! (A first time for me). Really enjoyed the show.

Deathraystare · 26/11/2022 15:56

On another note. Still waiting for my new bank card (my purse was pinched last Sunday).

I understand there is a postal strike along with all the other strikes.....

HelenaJustina · 26/11/2022 16:42

I only have my biggest three at home as littlest DC is at camp for the weekend. Losing one always changes the dynamic, it’s so interesting.

Its been a busy day with DC activities and some work but we’re in for the night now and I’m going to finish some housework and then make dinner.

MissConductUS · 26/11/2022 17:29

Silkie, the no bathroom doors is likely by design. They may have patients at risk of self-harm that need to be observed. Too bad about the iPad.

Thanks. Iwandered, she'll be 21 next month. I had hoped we were past the difficult stage.

I'm watching a new series on Amazon Prime, made in conjunction with the BBC. It's a western called The English. There are a number of British characters. There were a lot of Brits in the American west in the late 1800s as there was a lot of British investment in ranches, agriculture, and railroads. The series' name derives from the fact that since the English came first, native Americans called all Europeans English. It's beautifully produced if you're looking for something new to watch.

I've just ordered our free range turkey for Christmas. We get it from a farm only a few miles away and see all the turkeys and geese outside when we go for walks nearby.

catinboots123 · 26/11/2022 18:36

I got to the bottom of the wash basket today.

Well that is good news! I also hadn't been to a hygienist or dentist for about 10 years and I thought she would throw a fit, but no!

Deathraystare · 26/11/2022 18:47

@Silkierabbit

Mr Floof is bootiful!

MissConductUS · 27/11/2022 19:51

We got back an hour ago from taking DD to uni. We went the rural route, which is longer but much less prone to traffic delays and much prettier. It was 6 hours round trip, which is quite good for the Sunday after Thanksgiving. We also missed most of the rain.

DS returned from his adventures in Boston shortly after we got home. The men are watching football (the American kind). We're all a bit knackered from traveling, so we'll get a takeaway for dinner.

We usually put the Christmas tree up this weekend but have decided to wait until next weekend. The cats will be disappointed, as they love having an indoor tree.

Spending this rainy Sunday giving the once over to DD3's applications to grad school. So many essays, personal statements, descriptions of area of interest, etc...

I haven't yet done the wash that is rebuking me from the very full basket.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 28/11/2022 03:09

Evening all. I'm in Chicago and just had a lovely wander up and down the Magnificent Mile, then drank Gluhwein and ate Raclette at the Christkindlmarket. I feel like I'm here at the perfect time - the lights are all up for Christmas, but the Christmas shopping crowds have not yet arrived.

Thanksgiving Dinner was good, but it has mostly just been lovely to just have four days off in a row. We don't get an October half-term here, so it's a long haul to Thanksgiving weekend from when school starts at the end of August.

I got my cost of living payment today and am very happy about it.
