I know what’s wrong with the car, it started being really noisy when driving and then the exhaust fell off when DH was driving we are making do with one car this week, it’s tough but doable.

good luck lemons hope you find the right fit soon.

cassia she loved it. She did a sandwich course with a year out in industry (something of a specialty of Bath I understand) and walked into an amazing job after graduation. She also met her very lovely boyfriend there.

LadyMacbethssweetArabianhand · 19/01/2023 08:34

lemons it sounds like you made the right decision to move if your previous employer is behaving like that. Definitely ignore. Good luck with the job search. Very frosty here this morning. My plans today are all domestic. Housework, cleaning windows and floors and the kitchen. I'm learning Spanish via Duolingo so I'll do an in hour on that.

mathanxiety · 19/01/2023 15:41

Lemons you need to write your old workplace a cease and desist letter. Tell them that future contact from them will be treated as harassment. Are you a member of a union?

Prok glad your side effects are not too bad and to hear your DB came to look after you a bit.

Silkies I'm keeping my fingers crossed the hospital won't proceed with the unwarranted electric shock 'therapy' and that continued good rapport with the psychiatrist will influence her to let DS return to your loving care.

DD3 had some excellent grad school news yesterday - she's been accepted into a MPH programme just two weeks after applying, and offered a scholarship which will make a little dent in the overall cost. It's the first school she heard back from and one she was sure she had no hope of getting into. She hasn't even finished applying to all the places on her list and can now forget about applying to her safety school and feel good about deciding not to apply to an eye-wateringly expensive programme whose application is due soon. She's keen on going even though the university is in the deep south, where she's never been, hates the thought of hurricanes, and heat and humidity are not her thing at all. Now the search for scholarships and pleading her case for free money begins in earnest...

cassiatwenty · 19/01/2023 17:44

Helena, I hope you get your car fixed or replaced soon. As long as you're happy. She loved it there? And met her boyfriend? Not too bad.
A sandwich course does sound interesting, thank you for the idea

Lemons, I hope it's not giving you too much headaches, nasty messages. No need to reply if you don't want them in your future.

MissConduct, I'm glad your DS is done with uni, and admin side of it sounds like a pain. I'm glad you like the pics, thank you :)
Are you excited for the wedding? There's still some time until September but I hope you'll be seeing them both sooner x

Math, excellent news. I wish you the best of luck with the scholarships and searching for free money. Is there something you like about the Deep South?
Perhaps you could point it out to her, so she will be a bit more hopeful. Surely there are positives as well.

As for me, I went for another walk today. I had a chat with mum and she told me that she might be open going with me to visit uni's.

I'm in the library right now, and there are people studying and everyone is so quiet. I had a nice meal, some oranges and bananas, and got myself some waffles.

Now I'm trying to do some planning for the trip, and seeing how to budget expenses if/when we go to another city/town.

I went to Bath, and yes this is a typical degree there although I did two 6-month placements rather than one year. One was in the US, and I absolutely loved it, which is a big part of why I live in the US now. I also adored Bath as a place to live and study, and I enjoy visiting, although it is spectacularly crowded in summer.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 20/01/2023 19:07

It’s a snow day here, and I’m in my bed posting on MN using my iPad with swanky new keyboard case. It’s amazing!

DD2 goes back to college tomorrow. I’m really going to miss her quirky sweet ways. I love having her around. But she’s really looking forward to seeing her friends again.

DD1 went back on Jan 1st.

I’m looking up courses at the local community college and wondering if I can be bothered to sign up for any. It turns out they have lots that would be relevant to my field of work, and they’re really cheap.

HelenaJustina · 20/01/2023 20:35

Do it ZZ! I’m mostly saying this as I started a work related diploma course in October and misery loves company

Lemonsandlemonade · 20/01/2023 21:05

Thanks to all, I just plan to ignore old work.

zz- deffo do a course. I am currently doing my GCSE English ( need a higher grade if I want to do PGCE). I am really enjoying it.

yay 😁

Silkierabbit · 20/01/2023 21:50

Congrats to your DD3 Math and thanks for your kind message.

Good luck with interview Lemons

Hope you are feeling OK Prok

I would go for science if that is what you really want Cassia very useful for jobs.

Glad your dd got back OK Miss

Found out hospital is getting a second hospital involved who told me they will see DS in hospital in February, they are the leading hospital in this area but sad that ds won't be home any time soon. I want to book a holiday and it's hard to know if ds will be here or not and whether to do it for before he's back or after and do short breaks with him instead. Someone also suggested it may be ages before DS is back, DSs keyworker. I am trying to get clarity next week. Will see ds on Sun and Mon and stay at Holiday Inn and go swimming then also see the breast cancer surgeon on Monday but 2 year waiting list but at least hopefully can finally get on list.

MissConductUS · 20/01/2023 23:13

ZZ, your snow was our downpour. I'm glad we had it as rain.

Silkie, are they just going to transfer him or is that unclear at this point.

My boss at work just announced that he's leaving in June. That's fine, he's a bit of a jerk. Let's hope the next one is better.

We had a bloody gaggle of turkeys in the front yard today! I've never seen this many in one group before. It must be global warming. 😂

Silkierabbit · 20/01/2023 23:39

Looks like you are starting a small turkey farm there MissC 😂Have the cats noticed? Though I think you would need a Floof sized cat to take one of those on. And Floof would just look at it puzzled, he's very gentle and purry. I asked if DS would be transferred and they said that is extremely rare and only done in exceptional cases. Though DS is being exceptionally stubborn and his keyworker said they were keeping him until he cooperates, good luck with that. He was in a very bad mood in there today, threw his breakfast and drink (this is as he has a coco pops ban he's cross about) refused the meds so they force medicated and held him down so he kicked the door and was also kicking when they tried and failed to take him out. DH went to see him and he was OK with DH but crawling around the room. Not at all sure this is progress. He has been wearing his coat and shoes for 3 days and seems keen to leave.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/01/2023 19:22

For a dull and unexciting chat so many here have anything but in their lives.
@Silkierabbit your strength is amazing. My heart breaks for your ds. One step at a time and a cuddle with floof. 🌹
@Prokupatuscrakedatus are you still doing ok?
@mathanxiety I enjoy seeing your comments in other threads when our paths cross there! You are a debate champion!!!!🏅
@MissConductUS I had quite a laugh at all your turkey's! Are you feeding them???😁

A few if you mentioned taking or contemplating courses. I'm in full support of taking! I miss taking courses/uni study.
In '20 I brushed up on a few languages I previously studied for a few months and it reminded me how much I enjoy studying/learning.

It's a grey day here; 4c and raining. Snowing up top. I've got laundry in the wash, Havoc climbing all over me and I'm catching up on months of pvr'd tv. Just finished watching both seasons of Ted Lasso this past week. Roy Kent - 😛

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 21/01/2023 21:02

@Mumtobabyhavoc Yes, thank you. The lack of side effects has lasted. Yay!

DD and I have taken stock of the size of pots we need for all the indoor plants we have to repot. Turns out: 3 large Monsteras, a Drachenbaum of 2m height, 3 spider plants (Grünlilie or Brautschleppe in German), and a large Hibiskus.
As it is rainy and windy we have ignored the plants on the terasse for now.

DD went to a school where in addition to all the 'normal' subjects, she had gardening as a graded course and can talk now eloqently about compost heaps and chain saws.

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/01/2023 07:36

Wow what a gaggle of turkeys. Perhaps they are celebrating something 😀

Silkie - sounds to me like your DS is clearly communicating what he wants. Sending strength to you all.

Have the lad we have on respite here which can be a challenge. Especially entertaining a teenager and toddler but last night said lad wanted to put DS to bed. ( with a little help from me). He did a wonderful job and read DS a bedtime story.

That was huge for this lad as he actively avoids reading.

HelenaJustina · 22/01/2023 10:37

How lovely lemons like borrowing a big brother for your DS for a while.

I did so much housework yesterday, tidied lots of small areas, hoovered the whole house, dusted and polished downstairs, and cleaned the inside of all the windows. I still have 6 beds to change today, the kitchen to clean, lunchboxes to make for tomorrow and the uniform to iron. Feels like I’m running just to stand still!

MissConductUS · 22/01/2023 15:33

@Mumtobabyhavoc, we are not feeding them! We live next to a county nature preserve, and occasionally they come in from the woods on the other side of that low stone wall. Usually, they come in groups of three or four.

Prok, I wish I had had a gardening course available. I had to learn from my mum and a gardening club I joined.

Lemons, that's lovely about the lad you had in for respite. I think that we all have some evolutionary programming to be kind to babies.

It's going to rain this afternoon, so DH and DS are going to roast a chicken, and DH will make scalloped potatoes au gratin, a rare treat.

OP posts:
Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/01/2023 16:03

Miss DD had the usual curriculum in the morning and in the afternoon not only gardening, but other crafts from start to finish (from wool on a sheep to a pair of socks, making shoes, turning wood into furniture, sewing etc.).They also put her into a wood in Poland and told her (and classmates) to create a map using traditional surveyer's tools as part of maths.

mathanxiety · 22/01/2023 16:43

That's quite a gathering of turkeys, MissC. There must be something in your lawn that they like to eat. Or underneath it.

Prok that school sounds fantastic. Your DD has had a really sound education imo.

We have light, fluffy snow today, with temps just above freezing. Having leftover chili for dinner, after we get back from the laundromat. No progress yet on the digging up of the basement.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/01/2023 19:21

@MissConductUS Turkey whisperer comes to mind...also, an old tv commercial they "told two friends, and so on and so on..." 😁

This morning's breakfast was pancakes!!!!😛
I finally came across a recipe that solved my dilemma of BP & BSoda ratio. I made it for the 2nd time today, again with bananas foster (butter, br sugar, sliced bananas, splash spiced rum sauteed in pan) and maple syrup (Canadian, so of course). Recipe here if interested:

m.youtube.com/watch?v=vkcHmpKxFwg

If the link doesn't work, it's on YouTube, "Epicurious Pancake recipe" should get you there.
Hoping everyone had a peaceful Sunday. 🌹

Silkierabbit · 22/01/2023 20:56

Pancakes sounds lovely Havoc and thanks for your kind message.

That's lovely about the respite boy Lemons

Our good fortune seems to be following us into 2023. We were on our way to see DS and stay in Holiday Inn overnight and go swimming and also due at hospital tomorrow to see breast surgeon and the car gets 2 big punctures. Argh. So no DS, no holiday inn and no swimming. And a £200 bill for 2 new tyres. A recovery truck took us back home and DH is trying to arrange for tyres to be fixed. Will likely need to get a taxi to and from hospital to be able to do this appointment tomorrow as well. DH was very upset and started shouting and crying but I told him we will be OK and come through this and he was OK soon after that and we had at least broken down near KFC so went there and had a KFC. Though DH asked for 1 drink, no we don't have it, 1 meal, no we don't have it, second drink no we don't have it but he had something in the end. At least we are home now with Floof.

MissConductUS · 22/01/2023 23:30

Sorry to hear about your car troubles, Silkie. There's been a lot of construction near where I work in the last few years and I've had a few tire punctures from nails and the like, but never two at a time. I hope yours are fixable.

I bought a bunch of bananas for DD that were getting a bit overripe, so I made banana bread with chopped pecans, one for the freezer and one to eat this week. I sprinkled a little turbinado sugar on top,

@Silkierabbit you are all at/past breaking point...it isn't surprising you husband was past limit today. 🌹

Havoc had a good time at the park today and made a cute little friend of a sweet curly haired girl 2 mos older. They stomped and splashed in a puddle together. 😍

cassiatwenty · 23/01/2023 12:42

ZZ, I agree with Helena, sign up for some interesting community college classes. Maybe you'll meet new people, and misery loves company :P Just kidding

Helena, it sounds you're doing so much work and making your house look all nice. Well done! I bet it's now such a nice environment to spend time in. I love it when my house is clean, though I spend 85 % of my time outdoors. Still, it's nice isn't it?

Lemons, I hope you're doing well. It's nice that the lad put DS to sleep. What story did was read? I bet you're feeling proud xx

Silkie, you supported your DH, even though it was challenging. Oh dear, 200 for 2 new tires seems a bit much. Thank you for your encouragement re uni and science, Silkie, I appreciate it xx Any news what's going to happen with your holiday? I hope you get on the list, and I'm thinking of you. Let us know if there is any progress in regards to your appointment.

Miss, I hope your next boss is kind to you. I love your photo(s)! That's a lot of turkeys in the front of the yard. Omg that Banana Bread looks delicious

Prok, I hope you are doing okay. It's incredible that your DD has hardening as a graded course, and that she's eloquent when it comes to gardening. Sorry, I'm a bit new here, are you in Austria or Germany or Switzerland? How do you like it? So sorry, I'm sure you're sick of answering the same question :P

cassiatwenty · 23/01/2023 12:51

Mum is asking me to go and see uni before their open day. It's good to get support but am I wrong when I say that I feel a bit nervous doing it all my own? 🚋

Yelp!

So I'm doing some research on tickets, and hostels, accommodation and seeing my GP today, in one hour or so. Perhaps I'll get some answers on how to do this adulting thing better. 😅

Then I'll get some fruit and chicken, and go to a Church I like and spend an hour there with ladies, hoping that the charismatic Vicar comes. He went to uni, and his sermons are inspirational, and it always recharges me.

But of course, I came in to check in with you all, and in the library now. I love my library but it will be closed all February, I am sad already lol.

I guess I'll be forced to make my uni trip then. I don't like that my fav library will be closed all Feb and I'll be able to spend some time here March, 2023 😩

A pic from my walk the other night

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/01/2023 18:35

@cassiatwenty I am in Germany and actually German 🙂, so I can't really tell if I like it here because where else would I go?

My boring news: I kept my streak in Duolingo, found some more ancestors by reading pages and pages of church recoreds, and I am looking forward to a small birthday breakfast of a friend. I hope I am fit enough to actually attend.

We are definitely changing DS uni course to halftime, the workload is too much for him to cope with.
