That’s an interesting picture Prok.

Cassia it was a simple child’s story about farm animals but he read it well and was so lovely.

DS so happy at childminder he never wants to leave.

cassiatwenty · 23/01/2023 18:51

Prok, Oh brilliant! Guten Abend(?), erm, (apologies for butchering your language)
Well, where else, anywhere in the EU I suppose as you can if you'd like
Laternenblume is so pretttty, hoping we get some pix of Deutschland when/if you like 😊

Lemon, I'm glad. Childminder must be good, so hopefully they help with obligations in the future 😊

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/01/2023 20:19

@cassiatwenty
If you scroll back, you'll find pictures mostly of Berlin and the 'Pott' Ruhr-Area and suroundings.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/01/2023 18:35

@cassiatwenty I am in Germany and actually German 🙂, so I can't really tell if I like it here because where else would I go?

My boring news: I kept my streak in Duolingo, found some more ancestors by reading pages and pages of church recoreds, and I am looking forward to a small birthday breakfast of a friend. I hope I am fit enough to actually attend.

We are definitely changing DS uni course to halftime, the workload is too much for him to cope with.

A picture of a decaying fruit 'Laternenblume' (no idea what it is called in English)

Physalis, also known as Chinese Lantern.

Silkierabbit · 23/01/2023 22:53

Lovely banana bread MissC looks very tasty.

Yes two punctures at once was going for it, DH hit one of those island things in middle of road not sure what they are called triangular things, he was turning into a road and misjudged the turn and hit that curb with both wheels on his side. Getting it fixed here tomorrow. The recovery man was lovely.

Had to get taxis to and from hospital for me today to meet breast surgeons re reconstruction surgery. They said that I could not go on waiting list yet, argh and I did not take that well, had operation in Dec 21. But they did take photos and book in CT scan to look into doing DIEP and apparently after CT there will be another appointment and then go on list and list is around 40 weeks from CT. The surgeon said she is even working weekends to try and cut list and she says she works privately as well and delays there as well though not as long but that is £25k privately. Its apparently a week in hospital.

DS very distressed in hospital again. I have calls tomorrow but like banging head against a wall. Thanks so much for all the good wishes, it does help.

Is there someone that could go with you Cassia? That might help.

Floof is on the bed with me, he is stretched over 2/3rds of it, he's a big cuddly boy. So glad to have him at the moment.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/01/2023 07:35

Sue I knew somebody here would know the right word. Thank you!

I will get up soon (the privilege of being sick - I can take things slower) and do a load of 60° laundry, check the plants and check over the bathrooms. DH is out to an event, he has to, he is one of the organizers and has to deliver a small lecture, so I will have pizza at my desk. 😀

cassiatwenty · 24/01/2023 15:41

Hi Prok, Thanks for your message, I will take a look and see what your area is like. Take care of yourself, pamper yourself a bit now that you're sick, and make sure to hydrate thought the day. Pizzza sounds delicious, I hope you enjoy it ^^

Sue thank you for helping out 😄

Silike, Mum told me she was going to accompany me but that didn't work out. Perhaps I'll go with Helena to make sure her car drives smoothly (Only joking, teasing 😋 Helena, you're safe, no worries)

Aw Floof sounds like a sweetheart, and I'm glad that the recovery man was lovely. 💐

25 k privately is a tad too much. 40 weeks is a bit too long? However, it's good that you're being proactive about your health and doing all things that are doable.

As for me, at the library again (it will closed all February, I miss it already), and I emailed some uni's seeing if they are open and receptive to chatting on Zoom a bit and seeing if I'd be well received if/when coming by myself.

Took a walk through a lovely park today and went to my favourite store but my favourite clerk (a boy!) wasn't there, which -- a tad disappointing, chit-chatting with him always makes my day a tad better.

He'll work tomorrow after 12 PM so perhaps I'll say hi 😋

mathanxiety · 24/01/2023 17:47

I was putzing around in tbe kitchen late yesterday afternoon when I heard the unmistakable sound of a jackhammer all the way down in the basement. Got a text from the LL later to say the old drainpipe has been replaced, concrete laid down, and the washing machine is now back in action, but please don't walk in the wet cement. I'm cautiously optimistic about uninterrupted laundry facility availability, but the problems only started after the previous plumber came, a coincidence that I feel the LL has overlooked.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/01/2023 17:59

"putzing" what a lovely combination! 😀DD is on a bilingual uni course, so we often mix languages.

Tomorrow I'll start chemo 8 and hopefully I can take a few fotos for cassia of the canal and the skyline. The station I am in is on the 8 floor and the view is great, though not green at the moment.
And I'll catch up properly with the thread.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/01/2023 18:28

@Prokupatuscrakedatus will be thinking about you. Sending good thoughts yiyr way. 🌹 Will also look forward to pics.
@mathanxiety hope this will be the end of the issues. Must've been an expensive repair for LL!
I had an aunt that said, "putzing around" or "putzkying around". You've reminded me of a voice lost almost 15 years ago. 😊

Well, I don't have any inspirational cleaning/sorting stories yet. Still not feeling great since last Thurs. I'm almost finished the medication - just one more day. BUT, have been feeling quite tired, out of breath, headachey, nauseous, generally unwell. Thought maybe it was high glucose so tested yesterday and was normal. Took blood pressure and was very high. Rested and repeated testing a few tines. Still very high. Took myself to emerg after putting Havoc to bed. Had ekg and blood drawn. Two hour wait, already 10pm and had to leave. Was so busy in emerg. So many sick kids. 😢 Anyway, needed to get to grocery store which closed at 11pm and decided to self-monitor and follow-up with GP today. BP seems better, though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/01/2023 18:31

Ahhh, wrong board. Sorry for any confusion re my post. I'm also on a board where we share our attempts to organize/keep organized. 😊

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 24/01/2023 21:50

ZZ, I agree with Helena, sign up for some interesting community college classes. Maybe you'll meet new people, and misery loves company :P Just kidding

I signed up for two courses. I would have signed up for more, but they said that they will not recognise any qualifications from other countries so I don't actually have the pre-requisites for... pretty much anything. Given that I left everything to the last day for sign-up, I'm just going with two courses for now, and I'll email the address they gave me to talk about it when I have more time.

It did make me chuckle that my local community college is refusing to recognise my A levels, degree, and post-graduate qualifications, and classing me as someone who has not actually graduated high school.

Silkierabbit · 25/01/2023 00:35

Well done on signing up for courses ZZ

Sorry you are ill Havoc hope you feel better soon.

Hope chemo goes as well as it can Prok and don't worry about keeping up with thread, we just like to hear from you and its difficult during chemo to keep up.

Math Well done on sorting plumbing

Cassia Glad you had a nice walk.

Car is fixed and went to see DS. He was slumped in corridor looking very low. Psychiatrist has now said maybe a year before they allow him to leave, argh.

MissConductUS · 25/01/2023 15:12

ZZ, I think that the community college just doesn't have the staff to evaluate your transcript. Loads of British students are accepted at American universities.

Silkie, another year, really? Did the psychiatrist say why? Hitting a traffic island certainly explains both tires failing at once.

We may get our first measurable snowfall today, ending a record 320 day snowless streak. DD did get 3-5 inches of snow earlier this week in Massachusetts.

DS has been working from home for the last few weeks. We have him the contact info for a career counselor we know, and he may reach out to him for some advice. I think this is better than us trying to offer it.

Silkierabbit · 25/01/2023 16:14

Its strange MissC as start of Jan this psychiatrist said he could be home in 2 weeks if better then. Yesterday she was saying a year. I had his keyworker speak to me saying she was concerned hospital weren't being honest when they said 2 weeks and he'ld been in for many months. So I called hospital, always had impression they are honest but there's different organisations involved and the one that covers home has to say they can pick up which is reason key worker gave. Hospital said that isn't the issue but she has had second opinions on his condition and they are saying could be a year before its better. And she is now saying lorazepam is failing. But he's been mobile on it, laughing etc, it seems though he is much less mobile with them and just very angry with them for forced meds. I think he is angry and refusing to go out as he sees that as them winning. Though its hard to be certain but they got him out 3 times before but now the nurse said to us they have no money to take him out and they have taken everything from his room since 30 December and he broke his ipad and they said not to replace it and he has zero to do. We may have option to move him to a hospital closer to home, but as he's sectioned they are barring and will bar a release. I think they are heading for ECT and we and him have no say in it. I am trying a lawyer on Friday but we are very likely to lose as medics are all saying he needs to stay in hospital even though he's worsening in there now.

MissConductUS · 25/01/2023 16:45

Silkie, ECT is still used as a second-line treatment, and it's done much more safely than in the 1950s or 60s. That said, it's usually done with much older patients. It can be effective when medication alone isn't working.

Gosh Silkie a year. Hi hope the lawyer has some good advice/ideas.

Had job interview today. Gave it my all. Waiting to hear.

FIL has has stent operation today.

cassiatwenty · 25/01/2023 17:55

My eventful day

Well, I cleaned my room in the morning. I listened to some radio and tried to sleep a bit more but didn't. Then mum already left, and I got dressed, a bit hungry.

When I went to the store, the lady at the cash register made an scene because, for some reason she couldn't give me back change seeing as she just started her shift. I was polite though a tad annoyed because I was hungry.

When she said =we're not a bank=, I was taken aback and told her that manners matter, and that this wasn't about her talking down at me. She can just explain the situation without the extra dramatics.

So that wasn't ideal, and I had to hunt for veggies and fruit elsewhere, and then on, I went to the library (I'm still there).

I didn't have time for Church today and to take a walk (which I wanted). Instead I responded to some uni related e-mails, and made a few Zoom appoinments.

Right now, I'm sitting next to other students (that's pleasant), and I'll chat a bit on MN and organise my day a bit better tomorrow.

cassiatwenty · 25/01/2023 18:06

Silkie, a year really? That must be frustrating and confusing. We're with you, and supporting you. I would be very mad about this sort of thing as it seems to be making you more stressed. Perhaps he could do with a little bit more autonomy, and things that are okay, don't need fixing. 😥

Prok 😊 I am thinking of you and I hope Chemo goes well. Don't worry about taking pix for me, as long as you are rested and everything goes well, that's rewarding enough. Though I won't say no to the pics when you are rested and ready 😋

P.S.
Did you read this book named Gut gegen Nordwind by Glattauer Daniel? People say it's a good read

cassiatwenty · 25/01/2023 18:13

ZZ, did you take any interesting classes? I can't believe they can't recogise your prior qualifications. Someone mentioned WES in the US does that for them and then they are ok, I don't know, but I suppose there's a middle-man (company) involved, though I hope all your work doesn't go unnoticed

Lemons goood luck with your job interview, fingers crossed. I hope your FIL's operation went well.

Miss that's a lot of snow in MA area, I hope you still get to go places and that things (places) keep working

Math well done on getting on with plumbing, I would be scared if someone woke me up, and it turned out to be some sort of loud noise, such as jackhammer

Mumtobabyhavoc, you sound like you do so much work. Make sure you take care of yourself and not burn out, though it seems like you are doing a good job

halfpasteleven · 25/01/2023 23:03

Silkie, thinking of you and your DS. Sending you strength because I don't know how you do it- I hope the lawyer has a way around the hospital recommendations because your DS sounds like he is ready for home. Good luck with the lawyer on Friday.

Prok, I hope you are doing well after your chemo session.

Fingers crossed for the interview Lemons.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/01/2023 03:28

@ZZTopGuitarSolo isn't there an academic advisor you can speak with? Here, we have an online transfer guide that allows you to compare your courses to the college/uni of choice to see how/if you will be credited and I recall the option to submit degree info with official transcripts directly to the registrar for review. I can't imagine a college in the States doesn't have similar? If it doesn't work out you can always come here. We have great post-secondary/grad education and I'll happily play tour-guide. 😊
@Prokupatuscrakedatus pizza! I'm so happy to know your appetite is still on course.
@Silkierabbit just thinking about you and sending you strength and positive energy. 🌹

Havoc had fun running around at the park today. I noticed the skate park was empty, so took him there also as I thought he's enjoy the ramps etc since he loves climbing. He did. BUT he attempted to walk down one instead of crawling backward or sliding on his bum. Being Super Mum, I of course attempted to grab him before he fell. Instead, I slipped and landed hard on my tailbone. 😩

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 26/01/2023 03:58

Mumtobabyhavoc I would love to come and study where you are :-)

But I have made an appointment to talk to an academic advisor on Monday, and hopefully they’ll at least recognize my degree. Otherwise I’ll look at getting some sort of transcript evaluation done. It’s probably a useful thing to have anyway.

I also just discovered I need to get an MMRV vaccine before I’m allowed on campus, so I’m getting that tomorrow at the doctor’s office.

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 26/01/2023 04:06

I just looked up WES and I think they offer exactly what I might need. Thank you!

I’m taking design classes - partly because they’re helpful for work but also because I love design and art generally.

I’m especially delighted right now because I just discovered I’m going to get a student software subscription to Adobe, which will save me $420 over the year.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/01/2023 04:39

@ZZTopGuitarSolo I figured you'd be on top of it. 😊Your courses sound interesting. 🤓
