Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Hope you survive the storm, Havoc. The footage from California is incredible.

Prok - hope you're comfortable and that your antibiotics fix whatever caused the fever.

Weather here is a 'wintry mix' and it's unusually cloudy and damp. My Christmas tree is still up but will come down this weekend when DS is free to help drag it out. The plants I took in from the deck when the weather turned cold are still going strong (knock on wood). They need more sunlight than they've had in the last week though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/01/2023 18:48

Looks like the winds have changed as only rain is in the forecast and from what I can see we won't get anything abover 25km/h or so next couple of days.
While all of you are winding down I'm trying to encourage Havoc to eat yoghurt, oatmeal and some blueberries. Looking out at a very grey day here.

Silkierabbit · 06/01/2023 21:31

Glad you avoided storm Havoc

We also still have Christmas tree up Math

Hope you are feeling better Prok

Finished legal doc last night and sent in re school, 30ish pages in word and today had cetr for DS. Dh finally got his work Christmas hamper so we are raiding the goodies.

Have the dentist at 8.30am tomorrow, can't be bothered with that. 😂

Lemonsandlemonade · 06/01/2023 21:50

Prok Hope you’re ok.

Havoc Hope the storm passes through ok.

Silkie Hope your dentist trip goes ok.

Had my dinner people Went for seconds. I undercooked the parsnips but other than that I felt it was tasty. Am shattered now mind you.

May take DS to Hereford tomorrow for a bimble.

halfpasteleven · 07/01/2023 05:16

Hope you are comfortable Prok and that the meds are working.

Silkie, that sounds like a very detailed document- you must be relieved to have that finished. Good luck at the dentist- I never enjoy it but am always glad I went when it's over.

Awake here at 05.15 with DD... she wants some milk and cuddles and sure what harm..

Hoping to go for a walk tomorrow before the rain and windy weather sets in

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 07/01/2023 07:07

I am very comfortable I get ABs via my.pickline and I read a lot

RhubarbFairy · 07/01/2023 08:04

Good to hear that you're comfortable Prok, are you feeling a little better? I hope the chemo went okay yesterday.

Silkie, I'm sorry, what. Electric Shock Treatment?! Here in the UK in 2023? That's barbaric. What on earth is their reasoning? That said, the whole treatment of your DS has been unwarranted. I'm so sorry.

It is raining hard here, and I'm regretting volunteering for Parkrun this morning. I'd usually run, but my knee is still tweaking a bit following my fall on Boxing Day. I have a waterproof coat and trousers, so I'll stay dry, but I can't quite believe I've dragged myself out of a warm bed for this.

DS2 was awake at 5.50am to go to the toilet. He asked if he could stay up, and I said no, he 6 get up in an hour. As he got back into bed, he grumbled that he wasn't tired and there was nothing to do. It's now 8.04, and he's still fast asleep.

RhubarbFairy · 07/01/2023 08:05

He COULD get up in an hour. Where did that 6 come from?

Silkierabbit · 07/01/2023 11:36

Hope you have a nice time in Hereford Lemons

Hope you get a nice walk Half

Glad you are getting Prok

Thanks Rhubarb Electric shock therapy is ECT and I so hope they don't use that but appears they can without his or our consent from what can see online but hope that is wrong. He is making progress on the sedatives and it's supposed to be only used if life saving or to make a huge difference to treatment but issue is last criteria is vague. I have no confidence now that the awful things won't happen to DS.

HelenaJustina · 07/01/2023 16:19

DC2 bounced into my bedroom at 7:05am saying we had to leave the house in 15 minutes to get to swim training on time. I blearily complied and we got there at 7:25. Swim training didn’t start until 8am… she was still working to the holiday timetable so we were 30 minutes early.

MissConductUS · 07/01/2023 16:20

Lemons, glad your dinner went well. What's a bimble? Google was unhelpful.

ECT is still used in the US but is very tightly restricted. I'm not an expert, but I can't see the case for using in on your DS.

Prok, I'm glad to hear you're comfortable. Is the IV/dripline in all of the time?

I took down the decorations last night and DH put the tree back in the attic this morning. DH has gotten a front and rear dashcam for his new car and found a bloke locally who installs them (connected directly to the car's electrical system and all of the wires hidden) so we're taking his car there later.

It's cold here (about 2C) but the weather is quiet. It feels odd to have the tree gone.

Silkierabbit · 07/01/2023 16:35

I looked up bimble too, must be a regional phrase, and it said meandering walk.

Yes I really hope they don't use ECT but we get no say in it and its just the two doctors and I don't think a lawyer can overrule them though am frantically looking into it. But its not looking hopeful.

Deathraystare · 07/01/2023 18:53

@RhubarbFairy

Yep we have an ECT suite in our hospital. I was a bit surprised myself!

Deathraystare · 07/01/2023 19:08

@Prokupatuscrakedatus It is good you are feeling better and you are reading. Do you ever look on the Mumsnet reading post?

@Silkierabbit Do enjoy your goodies!

I may have whinged on here about our new phone system (I work as receptionist in Mental Health). The first problem was we could not ring any doctors (they use mobiles). Now it is very serious- whenever we rang a ward we got 999! For those abroad it is the emergency service!

Luckily it has been a quiet night. The food delivery guys have been asked to deliver the foods themselves to the wards.

We have to bleep the doctors that have a bleep rather than ring them. We don't always get a reply.

Yesterday was worse as I kept getting calls for the main hospital. They have removed a lot of their phone numbers and we don't have a number for the main switchboard. I did ask one of their receptionists but they are so damn unhelpful! I was so pissed off that when I left work I went to the pub for a Guinness and a vegan Katsu Curry (had vegan sausages in it, rice and chips! Double carbs! De;licious!

Lemonsandlemonade · 07/01/2023 19:11

Yeah a bimble is like a wonder or walk with no real set destination. We didn’t end up in Hereford but stayed more load due to flooding. Ended up having a lovely time but had an odd lunch experience.

Ate in cafe next to a park. No children’s menu ( fine by me) but no option to have a smaller portion of anything at all including the soup.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/01/2023 22:23

Hello everyone 😊
Lazy afternoon here. Watching JLo's "Marry Me" drinking tea, eating toasted challah with mixed berry jam. Havoc is running around with a fluffy toy bunny. Still a grey day here. Still no storm. Heading out to the park for a bit of fresh air play once movie is done.

Hope everyone has had similar calm day. 💖

IWanderedLonely · 08/01/2023 10:26

I'm still in bed at 10.19 a.m. DH has gone on a 1/2 marathon. Trying to ignore the feeling of guilt at my laziness.
I've heard of bimble from a friend from Manchester, but it's not a local word for us (25 miles away).
Today (if I ever drag my arse out of bed) I'm planning to tidy and clean the spare bedroom AKA my sewing and Christmas room. I hoard useful boxes, shredded tissue paper etc.

Hope you are feeling OK Prok and you get some good news soon Silkies

RhubarbFairy · 08/01/2023 11:01

Morning all. I'm just pottering this morning. Fighting against Mount Washmore. I am looking forward to the warmer weather so that I can get my washing hung outside. Everything dries so much faster then.

Taking DS2 swimming with a friend in a couple of hours. Well, they swim, we watch and chat.

DS1 is on antibiotics for an ear infection, so he can't swim, so he'll do the weekly shop with DH. He doesn't know yet. He will be thrilled. He's currently playing a football match, and DH has taken him and is stood on the chilly sidelines. This will be forgotten when he's told of the plan to go shopping, and he'll declare it 'not fair' and 'boring' and ask why he has to go.

MintJulia · 08/01/2023 12:19

I'm managed quite a lot this morning, all the decorations are down, the tree is stripped and in the garden. I've changed both beds, done two loads of washing, hoovered the sitting room and rearranged all the furniture.

Wishing for warmer weather too. Or just a break in the rain would be good so I can hang some sheets and duvet covers outside.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/01/2023 13:49

Took DS swimming was so proud. Tried him with the swimming rings that goes your arms. DS did amazingly well after about ten mins he worked out how to stay and loved the freedom of not being held by me.

HelenaJustina · 08/01/2023 14:20

We use ‘bimble’, both DH and I acquired it from the military. I’ve only ever heard it used/understood by people who have military connections. And looking up the etymology, it appears that it may have originated from the forces, though the OED appealed for help 10 years ago in looking for earlier antecedents.

It is so wet and windy here that I’ve been quite productive round the house, 3/6 beds changed so far, tidying done in bedrooms of DC1 and 2, I’ve made lunch and cleared up, ironed the school uniforms and made the packed lunches for tomorrow. Just the remaining beds and kitchen clean to do before taxi-ing DC3 to 2hrs of gymnastics and DC2 to 2hrs of swimming.

Deathraystare · 08/01/2023 14:42

@Prokupatuscrakedatus ·
I've got a bed, lots of blood was taken,

So you now have two empty arms!

In work again, our phones not been sorted and the request I put in on Thursday about a lift out of action had apparently not been recorded and it is raining! When I leave I have to go past a not well lit area full of broken pavements so I just know I shall put my foot in a big puddle.

@Silkierabbit Blimey you are really going through it with you son, aren't you? I do hope things get better. In the meantime throw a side of beef at your 'monster' cat!

IWanderedLonely · 08/01/2023 15:16

Helena thar would make sense- our friend was in the RAF.
I feel tired just reading your list of housework!

sproutsandparsnips · 08/01/2023 15:17

Silkie so sorry, the saga seems never ending. I hope you get to bring DS home soon without ECT.
Mintjulia HelenJustina you have both been very productive! I don't feel I have used the weekend wisely, I watched rugby in the rain yesterday and watched DS2 play in the rain this morning. Then I went for a walk as the rain looked to have cleared up, only to have a sudden torrential downpour including hailstones drench me as well as an inconsiderate motorist drive through a puddle.
I have, however done some washing and as the DC are only back to school tomorrow after Christmas the uniforms are all done. I have cleaned out the fridge as it is very bare.

HelenaJustina · 08/01/2023 16:46

Mine went back mid-week sprouts so we’re a bit further ahead. I finished the beds and have done the kitchen, plus mopped all the hard floors. Gym drop off done and I’m off to do the swimming run.
