Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

NooNoo, my kids are older now, but I remember all of the things that disappeared at school - clothes, calculators, books, etc. It is frustrating.

Welcome, @Always4Brenner , and thanks for sharing your lovely news about your new home and holiday plans. It's always good when you can make a fresh start after a bad situation. What are you planning for Christmas?

A Tudor themed Christmas I can’t wait nativity advent calendar each day a nativity figure. I can reuse each year. Tree snow capped so no baubles needed goes up Christmas Eve a five course meal over the whole day Christmas Eve then buffet food treats for three days I’m hibernating box sets to watch the Tudors and A Traveller in time. Best of all means nothing to anyone else but means the world to me I’m unwrapping my 007 novels the editions I was forced to get rid of years ago by my toxic family. So a wonderful Christmas a Christmas I’d never dreamed off but getting.

MissConductUS · 14/11/2022 18:48

Welcome, @Taswama, and thanks for sharing your salty snacks news. I googled Seabrook Crisps, and they sound delicious, especially the cheese and bacon ones. Posh crisps are now a thing in the US. Cape Cod kettle cooked with sea salt is my favorite.

Always, that sounds like a lovely Christmas you have planned. I love the James Bond books too. You might also like the Travis McGee novels written in the same era.

jdmhomepage.org/travis-mcgee-novels-1-9.html

I had a walk at lunchtime, but it's turned to winter here, cold and windy today. I'm trying to think of what I can make for Thanksgiving dinner for just three people. Possibly a roast turkey breast.

I like the sound of this book very much thanks be on kindle this one though. I can’t wait so excited about Christmas, a church Christmas fair as well my first for years so looking forward to that as well.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/11/2022 22:47

Hello to everyone. 😊
Took DC to swim lessons today. Lots of tears and stress this time (no, not me!). Stayed a bit later to try and work through it, but DC couldn't be convinced water was fun.
@MissConductUS I'm sorry your Thanksgiving is going to be a smaller celebration this year than you had expected. I wonder if it might be a good opportunity to be a little extra extravagant? When I'm not expecting guests on holidays I stay in pyjamas all day and indulge in my favourite foods with bubbly.

MissConductUS · 15/11/2022 20:56

Mum, sorry to hear about the ongoing aquatic aversion. Mine jumped right in, kids are very much individuals.

We had a talk last night about Thanksgiving plans. We thought we might go out, as a lot of restaurants are open on Thanksgiving day. Checking on line we found that the best options were either already booked or wildly expensive. So we agreed that we would get a very small turkey and do the traditional meal at home with the three of us. DS was a bit upset that we wouldn't be going to my brothers house this year, as he traditionally hosts.

Preparing for chemo number 4 and they will take bloods for genetic testing.

I never learned to properly swim, I can do a dog paddle across the pool.

Lemonsandlemonade · 15/11/2022 22:51

Good Luck with Chemo 4 prock how are you feeling re genetics test?

I love swimming. mum are the swimming lessons a new thing?

Eeeekkk have submitted my application for new job.

In dull news had a fright this morning DS fell out of his cot. I think from the position I’ve found him in he leaned over too far,

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/11/2022 03:00

@MissConductUS pyjamas amd bubbly then!!!!!
🥳😀

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/11/2022 03:01

@Lemonsandlemonade yes, 2nd lesson. Was a star last week.... 🤷‍♀️

mathanxiety · 16/11/2022 03:44

Best wishes for your chemo, Prok. How many rounds will be left to do after this one?

I went out to Mass on Sunday and heard the best autumn sound, one I first heard when DD1 was 2, so thirty years ago - a flock of thousands of geese aloft, heading south, all calling to each other. The first time I heard it I had no idea what it was until little DD spotted the endless flock in the sky.

Woke this morning to snow. It had to come sooner or later but I think it's a little earlier this year than last year.

We bought a 13 lb turkey in Costco and it's now in the freezer oblivious to its upcoming big day. We're going to use the air fryer to do veggies this year.

GetUsedToTheHeatAgain · 16/11/2022 04:50

May I join all you all here?

Just off out to a ceramic factory shop which I have discovered, very much looking forward to seeing what bargain's I can find as some items are made for the UK market (I am overseas!)

May even find some milk today, not been able to get any for about 5 days now...

HelenaJustina · 16/11/2022 06:24

Well done lemons what a great step!

In dull news I am shattered this morning. Was up until gone midnight last night finishing a course assignment and writing the Children’s Liturgy for this coming Sunday

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2022 08:18

Math and "Lemon*
This is round 4 of 12 after nr 6 they will be checking "progress".
If this is linked to the BC gene, they can perhaps tweak the chemo and I will warn family.
Foggy and cool here, for Friday they predict snow.

Deathraystare · 16/11/2022 08:40

I just typed a long chatty post and it disappeared!! Never Mind.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus

I hope everything goes well for you with the chemo. One of the porters at work is going through that.

sproutsandparsnips · 16/11/2022 09:10

Good luck with chemo number 4 Prok.
Hope all ok Silkie
Math I love the sound of geese and flocks of starlings too (I believe it is called a murmuration).
Just watching the birds fighting over the mealworms I've just put out.

Silkierabbit · 16/11/2022 09:15

Thanks Sprouts I loved watching birds too. Thanks for thinking of us, sadly DS has worsened again in hospital, and is in catatonia and vomiting each hour. I think it might be as when we saw him on Saturday he was wearing his school polo shirt which is the one police handcuffed him in. I have asked hospital to remove it but DS seems very traumatised in there and there is no plan for his release and no education plan. DD is doing well.

Hope the chemo goes as well as it can Prok and the side effects aren't too bad.

Well done on applying for job Lemons

Sorry not able to keep up atm.

Always4Brenner · 16/11/2022 09:20

All the best Prok hugs hope it goes well. Freezer stocked still a bit of room meals are in so pleased spaghetti Bol today with portions put in freezer.

HildaTablet · 16/11/2022 10:00

Thinking of you and your family Silkie. I can’t believe this nightmare is happening to you. But at the same I can, unfortunately. The ineptitude of the so-called authorities is beyond distressing to hear.

Silkierabbit · 16/11/2022 10:21

Thanks Hilda Just got an email and one of the people I was complaining about for corruption it says is no longer employed by them. Looks like they were made to leave as kept getting strange messages about why they were off. They were very senior. They kept lying and reckon they got caught out. Only been there a year and background looked unfit for job too. But they did not act alone.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2022 11:39

Silkie Just when I thought things could not get worse for your DS.
I am again speechless.

I have refused the offer of noodles in tomatoe sauce, and ate a packet of crisps instead. DD will bring chinese fried noodles tonight.

I add a fresh look from the hospital entrance:

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 16/11/2022 11:40

Look = view

MissConductUS · 16/11/2022 16:33

@GetUsedToTheHeatAgain, of course you may join, all are welcome! I hope you had a nice trip to the ceramics factory shop. One of my favorite trips is to visit the Corning Museum of Glass. Why has milk been hard to find where you are?

Prok, best of luck with your fourth round. You seem to be tolerating it quite well. Lovely picture.

Well done, Lemons! You have nothing to lose and lots to gain by applying for the job.

Math, I have a $5 coupon for a fresh turkey at the posh Italian supermarket, so I'm going there Friday afternoon to look for a small one. 13 pounds would be fine and we'd have lots of leftovers. We will all pitch in on the cooking, so that will help out with the holiday spirit.

Silkie, I'm so sorry it has come to this with your DS. Have you sought legal advice about getting him alternative treatment?

The long range forecast for next week looks good for picking DD up at uni. Some areas north of us had snow last night.

@MissConductUS I thank you for this thread as it's great reading news that is mpre lighthearted again after all the awful things Covid and cost of living related.

mathanxiety · 16/11/2022 21:24

Prok that's a lovely view. I love late autumn scenes. I think it's the muted light that draws me. Every time you post a photo I feel more and more that I would very much like to visit Berlin.

We have a mix of wintry precipitation today. The leaves are slippery underfoot.

Silkies fingers crossed DS can be helped. I do urge you to find a solicitor who specialises in cases like his though. The hospital is being paid a daily rate for him as long as he is breathing, and there is no incentive to do anything but keep him there.

MissConductUS · 16/11/2022 21:26

You are most welcome, @NooNooHead1981 . It's part of my job as the American ambassador to Mumsnet. 😁

It is a nice break from the parking wars, in-law dramas, and AIBU.

DH is making pasta and meatballs tonight, with the meatballs from the Italian supermarket. He used to make them himself but decided that theirs are better.
