I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is the link to the prior thread:

Apologies that the prior thread filled up before I could create this one. Hopefully everyone will find it. Lurkers are of course welcome to unlurk.

Happy New Year all

I've just measured ds who is looking distinctly tall and he's grown an inch since school broke up on Dec 9th. And 3 inches since September. No fatter though.

I'll be rehemming school trousers in front of the tv tonight. 😀

MissConductUS · 01/01/2023 16:42

That's lovely, @MintJulia. How old is your DS? Mine was about 14 when he outgrew me. Now, at 22, he's about two inches taller than DH.

I went to church this morning. Today is the Feast of the Holy Name. I had no idea, but it was nice to be back after missing Christmas services with covid.

It's a lovely day here. I'm trying not to eat much to save the calories for DH's chocolate mousse birthday cake.

Happy new year everyone. Quiet day church which was lovely and washing this afternoon. Nice dinner beef pigs in blankets stuffing balls mash sprout and carrots no roasties will get Tuesday.

JamSandle · 01/01/2023 17:02

I've batch cooked some healthy and nutritious meals to last me through the week. This makes me happy as I feel as I'm taking charge of my health again...and saving money too!

MintJulia · 01/01/2023 17:07

@MissConductUS He's 14 too. Until half term, he ate like a sparrow. Now he's eating more than I do. 😀

MissConductUS · 01/01/2023 17:09

Mint, my DS's mouth sore have completely healed so in positively inhaled dinner last night. He's almost 23 now. The ability of teenage boys to eat is breathtaking.

Had a lovely carvery. Delicious with DS eating for free. Had white chocolate and raspberry crème brûlée was yummy,

Glad you enjoyed church today MissC.

Always4Brenner · 01/01/2023 18:55

I enjoy batch cooking @JamSandle, always looking for new ideas if you'd like to share yours?
I mostly make curries, various egg fried rices, sausage casserole, shepherds pie and fish pie. Always feels better when the freezer is stocked!

We have had a bereavement in the family over Christmas so it has been exhausting. I didn't go anywhere today- I needed to rest.
Hopefully we will get to the sea tomorrow for fresh air and a long walk. The sea helps me so much.

Sorry to hear of your loss Half

Heard DS is being forced medicated now held down by 4 nurses, said its OK as he's not screaming but he's mute he does not scream ever. Came back from France day early to see if can sort but lots of staff on leave atm.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/01/2023 06:30

@Silkierabbit I am hoping for a breakthrough for your dear son. I'm so sorry he is going through such an awful ordeal. I wish I had something brilliant to offer. Please know I'm keeping you in my thoughts as we all are here.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/01/2023 10:44

Force feeding medication into a mute child holding him down by 4 people???
When did they get their training? In the 19th century asylum era?

DS has just declared problems - but then he gives up at the slightest inconvenience, putting in more time and effort is to much for him unlike his sister who early on declared that she will not be dictated to by her brain chemicals.
Oh well...

Lemonsandlemonade · 02/01/2023 15:17

Oh Silkie that’s absolutely disgusting.

Always4Brenner · 02/01/2023 15:22

Have we gone backwards regarding medication giving? This is shocking to read it really is.

Deathraystare · 02/01/2023 15:35

@Lemonsandlemonade

Glad you enjoyed your carvery.

@MissConductUS

Despite not being a fan of chocolate cake much I have fond memories of mum and I making quite a few chocolate mousse cakes over the years!

@Silkierabbit

I really feel for you. You really have had a lot on your plate.

And there is me whining about 3 days without hot water. It only matters today because I had to go back to work and despite a flannel wash at the bathroom sink I still feel grimy!

However, yesterday was fab. I managed to watch Andre Rein (spelling?). I thought he was Austrian but he played a thank you concert in honour of Queen Beatrix stepping down and her Son and DIL taking over. It was obvious from references that he is in fact Dutch! Lovely to see the Dutch out and about enjoying themselves. Those in cafes could watch on a big screen.

It was absolutely lovely. He is a nice man too.

Bloody well forgot that Happy Valley was back on though. Ah well swings and roundabouts.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 02/01/2023 15:44

My workmate just cancelled our lunch meeting - she's got a cold and will not risk my health or that of her granny.

MissConductUS · 02/01/2023 19:35

Silkie, that's awful. Why did they feel that such extreme measures were necessary?

DeathRay, I heard about the third season of Happy Valley. I'll have to see if I can stream it here. I'm currently watching Sherwood on Britbox and it's quite good. I turned on the English subscripts so that I don't have to struggle with the accents.

DD is off shopping with her boyfriend, who is also on winter break. I have to run to the dentist for a follow-up exam for the bone graft they did before Christmas.

OP posts:
IWanderedLonely · 02/01/2023 20:25

Silkie I hope you get some answers about DS, it sounds awful for him.

Miss hope the dentist went ok.

I'll be glad when all of the Christmas chocolates and sweets are gone. I have zero willpower. I did manage 3 short, slow runs last week, and need to keep it up now.

HelenaJustina · 02/01/2023 21:53

Happy New Year everyone, even though I’m a day late! We celebrated by having a 5 course meal at home with the DC, we’ve done it the last few years starting with cock/mocktails and canapés, and finishing with coffee/warm
milk and petit fours.

Hope 2023 brings health, happiness and hope to us all.

halfpasteleven · 02/01/2023 22:45

Silkie, I'm so sad to read your most recent post.
How can they justify this treatment if a child in this day and age?
Sending you strength x

Silkierabbit · 03/01/2023 00:33

Thanks everyone, I will see with doctors tomorrow and try and get it stopped. DH saw him today and he nodded that he wanted to see seals with us and cried and nodded yes to coming home. Which set DH crying as we aren't allowed to take him home as he's clearly very distressed. We can take him out at least for 3 hours a day but it's a 3 hour round trip from us so not easy. They have to do a report which is 2 months late then set up community package and there's still no sign of even starting looking for a school.

I have been working on legal document.

Silkierabbit · 03/01/2023 00:37

In better news Floof is back and he is trying to talk to me again but has a completely blank look when he does it. I say ah ah and he says ah ah.

Silkierabbit · 03/01/2023 00:39

Unpacked from France, silkies and rabbit back tomorrow. Stay overnight and get DSs birthday cake on 4th. Poor DS his 16th will be locked in hospital being force medicated.

Lemonsandlemonade · 03/01/2023 07:39

Aww Silkie your poor DS and DH. I really hope he gets home very soon.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 03/01/2023 11:58

Silkie Is it true that Fluff will continue to grow until he is five?

The recommended adult psyciatrist offered DS an appointment tomorrow at 8:45 I accepted of course. So I hope that is sorted.
