I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

I was supposed to leave work at 2pm but the other person not in yet due to trains. I think when I get home I will just pop in the little Sainsburys which has little in there and get some soft drink and crackers if they have them (I know they won't have eggs!

After that I shall sit up in bed and listen to audio tape after a quick very late lunch of course!

Silkierabbit · 24/12/2022 14:48

Frohe Weihnachten to Prok and family, hope you are all recovering.

DH has been to butchers to get the turkey and pigs in blankets etc I ordered. Floof thrilled at the word turkey.

Hope everyone has a good Christmas eve.

MissConductUS · 24/12/2022 14:49

Deathray, I think we'll do a takeaway for dinner tonight as none of us will feel like cooking, I expect.

I felt well enough this morning to lift some weights and ride the stationary bike for 20 minutes while watching season three of Jack Ryan on Amazon Prime. The thumbprint cookies came out well and the tree is ready for tomorrow.

DD just tested positive and is a bit stroppy about it. So that's all of us, assuming DS was the vector. At least now we can stop wearing masks to protect her.

I ran out to get her a bag of her favorite cough drops at the pharmacy. I will now make the Holiday Mashed Potatoes for tomorrow's dinner.

@MissConductUS Yum! The cookies look great and so does your tree!
the two hours sleep I had caught up with me so didn't do any baking after all. I did get a decent sleep last night and was awake at 6:30am with Havoc. Have just taken a banana break out of the oven, so some progress has been made. I've had a latte with nutmeg sprinkled on top, eaten two costco chocolatines and trying to encourage Havoc to eat the PB toast I've made. I've got The French Chef on tv (1972) and Julia is demonstrating how to make orange Bavarian cream and extolling the benefits of blenders. I will be making the said ginger cookies next.
I'm sorry everyone us now sick in your house.

@Deathraystare I hope you managed to find what you were looking for at the ahops on your way home. It must be going on 6pm there now. Hoping you are home, cozy and nibbling in some treats.

Havoc is having a giggle watching Julia with me. Toast is getting eaten. Julia has just poured rum over stale cake and is going to mix it into the cream. I suspect it will all get poured into the mold and the get chilled.

Negative test thank goodness for covid so just a cough I’ve had it a week but it’s slowly getting better. Had my prawns garlic butter to cook them in wonderful will have my full Christmas dinner about half six then another tomorrow, nice lazy night.

Silkierabbit · 24/12/2022 18:59

All shopping collected.

DD has returned from her punting job and given us a present from her to take to DS. She also got one for DH. She said she didn't get me one as I wouldn't be careful enough. 😂

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 24/12/2022 19:24

Inspired by Miss we had our first zoom call (only my side of the family) we opened presents, I looked at their lovely food ( we in Berlin are all in isolation in different rooms)

Water came back after 14 hours, so that was good. DC3 hosted a sleepover for 2 friends I had a sense of humour failure at 1:40am and we got through unscathed. I’ve done lots of preparing today, and am feeling reasonably ready for the coming festivities. Mass is at 9pm tonight so off to shower and change as have spent the day in scruffs.

MargaretThursday · 24/12/2022 22:45

Happy Christmas all.
My dc are off to midnight mass with dh so I've sung them "Santa Clause is going to sleep" and told them not to disturb me when they get back. Once they're gone I'll fill the stockings.

Silkierabbit · 24/12/2022 22:50

Merry Catmas everyone, excited Floof with the little Christmas tree.

Happy Christmas all. Hope you all have a good day and those who are poorly feel better very very soon

mathanxiety · 25/12/2022 06:58

Merry Christmas everyone!
Still no internet here. I'm using DS's phone. They're going to send us a new router but that's probably not the problem because friends and neighbours livkng close by who have the same provider are also out.

It's freezing and blustery, but no burst pipes (yet) and my car didn't seize up even though it's parked outdoors.

DD2's flight made it three hours later than expected on Thursday.

Wishing a speedy recovery to MissC and Prok and families.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 25/12/2022 07:44

Happy Christmas everyone.

Deathraystare · 25/12/2022 08:50

@MissConductUS

Well I cheated yesterday and had a late pub lunch - I had to, the Mushroom and Ale pie was yelling "Come in and eat me"! It has such a rich gravy. I just had to!

Those thumbprint cookies look interesting. Sorry to hear about the family's illness. Such a lot of illness around. One friend is over Covid now and another has it. Another friend has a cold but is cat sitting. Well cat visiting really. She feeds them and changes the litter box.

I got home yesterday and played my CD of Downton Abbey Christmas music but I reckon I only heard 3 songs and must have dozed off.

The taxi came to pick me up for work this morning and it only took half an hour because of little traffic.

It will be a quiet day as the front phone in reception is not working (new phone system, ha ha) and I am not going to faff about with cables to take the phone away and put the other one in., I have rung every ward so that should do it. It is just the people ringing in from outside that will have problems. I guess the poor receptionists on tomorrow will get all the complaints....

Deathraystare · 25/12/2022 09:00

By the way I got my eggs!!! Whether I actually use them or not today is another thing but it was imperative I got them!!!

I wont be doing much when I get home but may watch a DVD or listen to Christmas music (and fall asleep? Surely not!!!)

Hopefully you all have a good Christmas. If not - it is only a day (unless you have the in laws for a week!!!

HelenaJustina · 25/12/2022 13:30

Merry Christmas everyone! Am full of cold and didn’t sleep very well last night. But powering through with Sudafed and cava. Presents all went down v well with DC and DH (and DMiL) and lunch will be on table in 20 minutes.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2022 15:32

I'm glad you got your eggs, Deathray. They're in short supply here too.

Sorry you've joined the ranks of the sick, Helena. Well done for powering through.

DD has yet to emerge from her room, but we know she's alive as we can hear her coughing. I've put out pastries, but not a lot of interest yet.

I saw something move under the tree. It was a cat elf.

Bit late but happy Christmas dinner today with friends in the lounge. Very special present so thrilled call the midwife tonight then early night I think I was up late last night watch Scrooge then Die Hard so will save Die hard 2 till tomorrow then start the Tudors.

RhubarbFairy · 25/12/2022 19:49

Merry Christmas all.
I hope you've had and are having lovely Christmases.

We have come away for Christmas this year so have had a very unconventional Christmas Day.

We are skiing and today is the first day of ski school for the DC, so they were dropped off at 10am.
DH and I skied for a bit this morning, but a tumble yesterday has knocked his confidence. So we had lunch with the DC, and when they went back to lessons, he spent the afternoon in the spa and in the pool. He had a hammock and a book and said he was very relaxed. I spent the afternoon skiing alone, which was very peaceful, and then an hour in the spa at the end of the day, including a lovely sauna, though it was a shock to my British sensibilities to see people freely walking around naked in the spa. I felt conspicuous in my costume and was relieved when several other costumed folks arrived.

We then had a wander into the town and went to an Italian for dinner. My first time having pizza on Christmas Day!

Merry Christmas everyoe. 💖
@RhubarbFairy sounds like a lovely way to spend the holiday! I had to laugh re the nakedness, though! Is that the norm there? Is it mixed nudists or a women only spa??? Do tell!!!
@Always4Brenner movie day! Doing the same over here. Watching You've Got Mail. Had White Christmas on earlier.
@MissConductUS cat looks to have a plan... I can still remember our cat toppling over the Christmas tree when I was about 3 or 4, I think.

I'm just starting getting lunch ready. Nothing super fancy. Dinner is typically the main Christmas meal. So, making borscht and devilled egg on croissants now. Have already had eggnog bread-pudding and a latte for breakfast...😛

I hope those of you not feeling well recover soon and can manage to have a decent meal and cozy up rest of the evening there.

Rain continues to wash the snow away; temp is 6c; and forecast shows same all week. 💦

Last night definitely tomorrow reading 007 novels then the Tudors all day after about 2 nothing on tv tomorrow night oh yes Die Hard 2 at some stage.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2022 20:44

Thanks for the update, Rhubarb, that sounds like a fab Christmas. Are you in Austria?

We had a lovely time opening gifts. I've put the brie and prawns away as nobody is very hungry. Maybe we'll have them next weekend. I'm heating up the ham and mashed potatoes and will make some baby peas for the veg. This will be known as the corona Christmas henceforth.

I'm listening to the BBC news, and they played a clip of the governor of New York talking about the storm we've had here. It was much worse further north of here.
