Oh MissC - what an utter pain. So sorry to hear that.

Silkierabbit · 21/12/2022 20:14

Thanks Math Hope the storm isn't too bad.

Sorry to hear you have covid MissC Hope its not too bad.

Thanks Mum Floof has just been sitting by the bed next to me and also chasing Quality Street wrappers.

Hope you are feeling OK Prok and can still enjoy Christmas despite chemo.

Hope you had a nice time Helena

DH has collected a few parcels and is now out collecting DD from the train station.

Apparently DS has continued his pulling out of fire alarm wires and did his 4th one at 2.30am today climbing on the sink. No-one knows why he is doing this, he may be trying to get himself expelled. He was apparently smiling but that's the third room he's on since Saturday. They took everything out of his room on Saturday so he has absolutely nothing to do which I don't think helps. His ipad has gone, we are trying to find out where but looks like we may be needing a 3rd one.

HelenaJustina · 21/12/2022 20:23

Sorry to hear that Miss thought I am amazed you’ve avoided it this long! Hope you recover quickly.

Deathraystare · 21/12/2022 23:12

Well the day of the going to Thai restaurant arrived. Everyone knew we fD t be there for 6.30 and out by 8pm as another party had booked the table.

I was asked ton give someone 's mum a holiday test as another of our group was now positive.

When I got there she had had chips and a can of Pepsi an hour ago!!!! She tested negative. Another friend came. It was now 6pm. She then decided to change her outfit.... slowly..... eventually 6.10pm She was ready or rather not... she went off to clean her teeth..... eventually we were out the door. We got there and her daughter had not arrived she did not appear until 7pm

Eventually she told us to go ahead and order.

Well the food was nice but I did not have much energy with all the panicking of getting someone wventuallyvout of the door and waiting for her daughter to arrive Aaaaargh!

Then I get home and there is à single pRcel. It is for me. It loudly declares itself to be Depends night time Incontinence pants!!!!

Not happy. I forgot this brand does that. Had to pick them up from another flat once! Other makes are sometimes wrapped I n black plastic. But no they are SO bloody proud of their product, everyone has to see it!!!5

HelenaJustina · 22/12/2022 07:41

Our water has been off since yesterday evening. Bit stressful at any time of year, but particularly right now with 6 of us at home full time!

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/12/2022 08:07

Helena enjoy the Christmas break hope you enjoyed your coffee with a Friend.

Clearly where your DS is Silkie isn’t right for him. I’m sorry he won’t be home for Christmas or his birthday. I hope you still manage to have a restful Christmas.

MissC I’m so sorry you have Covid especially this time close to Christmas hope you don’t feel too poorly with it.

Sorry for those without water. It’s horrible isn’t it. I grew up with well water and there were times it ran out. Horrible using bottled water for everything.

Both my brother and Brother in law have quit their jobs as nurses the unsafe nursing practices for them was too high of a price.

last day at work went ok. Although I have to pop back and do some emails this morning and send my handover documents. Than o can enjoy the festive season.

Lemonsandlemonade · 22/12/2022 08:07

Sorry your meal went a bit not right deathray

Deathraystare · 22/12/2022 08:22

@Lemonsandlemonade

Ah well not the end of the world really! I was just getting uptight about it. I hate things going wrong/being late/waiting for people and always the same ones.

I try to be be understanding about my friend's mum as she has the beginning of dementia but My Aunt was like that and always was!

I should count myself lucky I have friends and can afford the occasional night out!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2022 08:25

I just scrolled the thread for cat pics. Babies and cute/funny animal pics and videos can make things a bit better. I recently saw a video of a toddler meeting baby sister, I think, for the first time: 😇
I can completely lose track of time watching videos of goats as well.

Deathraystare · 22/12/2022 13:26

@Mumtobabyhavoc

I regularly scroll thru you tube for cats/cockatoos/orangutans.

My recent favourite is a cat who waits until the owner goes out then puts on one of her slippers and marches around the house with it on!!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2022 17:38

@Deathraystare that one sounds great! 😄
my DC has recently learned how to put a hat on; I have a fedora I picked up while travelling and it's quite cute when he pops it on his head and marches around while hat is down over his eyes. He does same with a plastic bowl he has taken too. 🤷‍♀️

@MissConductUS sorry you are not well. I've caught whatever it was DC had, but luckily not covid per home tests I've done. Nasty sinus thing though causing me to shudder. ☹️

@Silkierabbit strength to you and your family.

@Prokupatuscrakedatus how are you feeling now? I hope you'll be able to enjoy Christmas dinner. Food is a great pleasure. I remember how my mum forced herself to eat after chemo.

@ZZTopGuitarSolo hope the Christmas Spirit has chased away the "meh."

I'm in Vancouver, Canada. Temp is -11. Another snow expected tonight. Looks to be 20 degrees warmer with rain to wash away the beautiful snow in coming days. I'm on my second latte enjoying the view of morning sun on snow covered mountains a little longer before braving the mall to buy a phone charger as mine is split and about to stop working. And GOD FORBID I don't have my phone. 😉

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 22/12/2022 19:17

I have managed to aqure an UTI - and have to take antibiotics.
DH still ill, DD fighting it of ( she is like that) .
So it really looks like a christmas spend in our individual rooms, conversing via zoom.
Luckily our traditional christmas food for the 24th is potato salad and sausage, so no food to worry about.

Always4Brenner · 22/12/2022 19:26

I’ve got covid tests coming tomorrow and will do a bulk order in January. Will test tomorrow. My tree is up I’m happy but tired so early night with hot water bottle and talking book.

MissConductUS · 22/12/2022 23:36

Sorry to hear about your UTI, Prok. This seems to be the Christmas of sickness.

My GP did give me an antiviral (not Paxlovid) yesterday and I'm already feeling better. DH tested positive this morning and is off to the pharmacy to get his script for the same medication. DD seems unscathed.

We're in for heavy rain and 40-50 mph winds tomorrow, followed by an arctic cold front that will bring temps down to -17C on Saturday. Power outages are expected.

Since we're not going to my brother's house for Christmas, I've bought a small ham (gammon?) for Christmas dinner. We'll have to miss Christmas eve services at church too.

Bah humbug. Xmas Angry

Lemonsandlemonade · 23/12/2022 04:59

Sorry about your UTI Prok. They are horrible.

Glad you’re feeling better MissC. Sorry you’re missing the festivities. You could call it a small ham or gammon. Do you bake it or boil it?

In Britain there would be carol concerts on tv or radio do they have that in the US? Sorry you will miss your church service. My Grandma at the ripe old age of 94 will go to midnight mass.

Had an absolutely lovely meal with family from abroad. It was happy and fun.

mathanxiety · 23/12/2022 05:21

Sorry to hear your covid news, MissC. I hope the medicine will make a difference.

Prok wishing you a speedy recovery from the UTI.

Helena your post reminds me I need to fill a big pot with water in case my downstairs neighbour forgets to leave her taps dripping tonight and the building ends up with burst water pipes. Really hoping you get your water back soon. Do you have anywhere you can go to wash or do laundry?

The anticipated snowstorm passed through and the winds are starting to pick up. I drove into some black ice earlier but at low speed and managed to keep control of the car. DD2's plane made it three hours later than promised, and her checked suitcase containing her woolliest sweaters amd socks also arrived. She reported that there was a Senator from Wisconsin waiting for his delayed flight to Mikwaukee at her shared gate in Reagan Airport.

DD4 has made cookies.

An area of several blocks is currently suffering from an internet outage, including my address. This is probably due to the storm.

IWanderedLonely · 23/12/2022 07:00

Sending get well wishes to everyone who's ill. I'm just starting with a cold/ sore throat. Really hoping it's a mild one as everyone is coming here for Christmas Day - 13 + 2 babies.
Helena I hope your water is soon back.Miss I've also not had Covid, but I am an antisocial bugger.

Silkierabbit · 23/12/2022 13:47

Prok Sorry about the uti, not great with chemo, hope it gets better soon.

I wandered Hope your cold turns out to be mild and you have a good Christmas day.

Glad you had a nice meal Lemons

Glad you are feeling a bit better Miss

Hope your Internet is back now Math

A snowy view sounds lovely Havoc

Sorry Thai meal was a bit rushed Death

Hope you have water again Helena

Just had homemade spaghetti bolognese and choc chip shortbread. Floof is super cuddly but dh keeps trying to stroke his stomach then he bites him and dh tells floof off. 20 years with cats and dh still tries to pet them like dogs. I told dh to stroke Floof head and Floof purred.

A neighbour brought some homemade Christmas cookies around. Saw ds last night but he looked so sad, he is also constantly gaming there, up to 4.30am last night. Though there is nothing much else to do, no TV and currently room is bare. They have now allowed him 3 hours out with us so will try but they have also now put him as a danger to self and others for dismantling fire alarms and said they may put him in isolation so I have been getting isolation reversed again.

Prokupatuscrakedatus · 23/12/2022 15:13

silkie ABs are worrking
DD sick with tonsilities she is just back from the doctos
DH still sick
DS has nothing as yet

ZZTopGuitarSolo · 23/12/2022 15:30

Stay warm and safe, US/Canada people! Unbelievably windy here but it’s not going to get too cold - only going down to -11C. We keep losing power but we have a generator and 10 gallons of gas so we should be ok. We’re going to do our Christmas food shop, go to the dump, wrap presents and start drinking early.

I hope everyone who’s unwell recovers quickly - sorry to MissC having your plans upended.

Silkierabbit · 23/12/2022 16:35

Hope you, DH and DD all get better soon Prok Glad the ABs are working.

Hope the Christmas prep goes well ZZ

Floof is starting to become chatty but only with me, its like he just leant to talk. He also has been playing ball a lot where he returns it in his mouth and trills when it is thrown.

DH is taking the silkies and the rabbit to a pet hotel where they will stay for a while as later we will go to Paris for New Year to see MIL and DHs friends.

DH will visit DS again and take him some brownies.

Deathraystare · 23/12/2022 16:47

I was going to book a Thai takeaway for Christmas evening but don't know if I can be bothered. I think I shall just buy a few more picky things. I have enough canned and frozen stuff. Just a bit more veg perhaps but doubt i will be able to cook from scratch anyway as I share a kitchen and the guy practically camps out there.

I may get a few more mini Christmas puds and mince pies, maybe some cheese crackers, I dunno. It is only one day and then I can get to the shops anyway. Ooh must get some fruit.

I got some nuts and now cannot find the nut crackers!!!

MissConductUS · 23/12/2022 22:22

I rallied enough to make some Christmas cookies today. It's been very windy and there has been some flooding but the power has stayed on. Its going to get extremely cold tonight and the roads will ice up.

DH spent most of the day in bed. DS brought me McDonalds for lunch. DD is camping in her room to avoid the virus.

ZZ, I think you are getting the storm worse than we are. Stay safe.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/12/2022 22:59

@MissConductUS jealous. I'm still sitting on the couch two cups of tea later. Havoc has pots and pans out and is sliding two bundt pans across the floor. Barbara Streisand concert playing on Netflix. The two hours sleep I had before shovelling the driveway so I could get to an appt this morning are catching up with me. Had planned to get baking done, but will nap first I think...

what kind of cookies did you make?

MissConductUS · 23/12/2022 23:36

I only had the energy to make one type, so I made thumbprint cookies with strawberry, raspberry and cherry jam.
