Where is your tumble drier?

Not meaning to be distasteful. I know electricity prices are on the up but we need to get a tumble drier. 2 young DC plus DSC and the washing is just taking over. Not enough drying space. Evident today when bedding has had to be washed as sickness bug in household - I have bedding draped on every door, clothes horse and bannister and still the clothes horses are at capacity.

So.... we have no utility room and no space in the kitchen to add the tumble drier..... where is yours???

Also considering a washer drier but not hearing good reviews.

In the garage, previously was in the shed. Nowhere else to put it

MegGriffinshat · 30/10/2022 14:38

My friend.has hers in the kitchen, on the counter top above the washing machine.

Our tumble DRYER is in the garage.

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 30/10/2022 14:39

Ours is in the utility so not much use. A decent heatpump condenser can go most places.

Have you considered a pulley airer? Clothing dries quickly on them and it keeps it out of the way. Above the stairs can be a good place.

Our tumble DRYER is in the garage.

IS IT?

Christ, it’s unbearable when people correct others like that.

OneRingToRuleThemAll · 30/10/2022 14:40

Stacked on top of the washing machine in the kitchen.

PilatesPeach · 30/10/2022 14:40

Garage. A vented one. It is by the back door the garage so I prop open the door and put the vent out when I use it.

ScarlettOHaraHamiltonKennedyButler · 30/10/2022 14:40

Ours in in the cupboard under the stairs which i am not keen on but we havent sorted another space since we moved on last year and it hardly gets used now anyway.

DeePlume · 30/10/2022 14:40

Dining room

SirMoose · 30/10/2022 14:41

Ours is in the shed.

EndlessMagpies · 30/10/2022 14:42

We have nowhere to put a separate tumble drier either, so we manage with a washer drier. It's not ideal and of course you can either wash or dry, you can't be drying the first load while washing the second. I yearn for a house big enough for a futility room.

RoachTheHorse · 30/10/2022 14:43

In the utility room with the washer, boiler, and water tank.

Alphabet1spaghetti2 · 30/10/2022 14:44

@EndlessMagpies Is the futility room an upgrade on the room of doom?!

BordoisAgain · 30/10/2022 14:45

Ours is in the garage, but I saw a video recently of a woman who had hers in the garden. She got a small garden storage unit and had a weatherproof electrical supply ran out and put the drier in there.

daisyjgrey · 30/10/2022 14:46

Kitchen. I'd rather it was in the shed but I know full well that I will procrastinate going out there in the cold/dark/wet and then things will never progress.

So kitchen it is. Plus I suppose that way at least the heat it gives off heats the house a bit.

Notthecarwashagain · 30/10/2022 14:46

My dryer is in the shed. It’s a bit of a pain when it’s raining, but I didn’t want it in the ‘dining’ area of my kitchen and that’s the only other space.

justasking111 · 30/10/2022 14:46

In the garage it's a gas one too. DS and girls have moved into a flat with a washer dryer they say it's awful stuff comes out damp. But I read if you do a separate fast spin post wash that helps.

They brought me their washing this weekend when visiting.

ChecoPerez · 30/10/2022 14:47

Sorry we don't have a shed for our DRYER...

do have a shed - one of those plasticy ones... hmm! I considered the downstairs toilet which hardly gets used..

Also garage. Another one for a cheap vented one. It was 200 quid and it’s marvellous. I have moved into a new rented house with a washer dryer and the dryer on the washer is absolutely crap, so I cleared some space in the garage and mine is back working again

ChecoPerez · 30/10/2022 14:47

GARAGE, not shed. Sorry, sickness bug has left me wiped out!

Basically stuck in the middle of the kitchen. I mean it's against the wall but it's just a small bit of wall with the radiator and means you have to sidle in to the kitchen but it takes up less space than several clothes horses in my small flat so I make do

SkylightSkylight · 30/10/2022 14:48

@ChecoPerez

i don't have one.

I have read though (on here!) that the Heat Pump ones are the ones to go for. Initially more expensive buy dry better to less expensive to run and many more options to place it in the home.

it doesn't sound like you have too many
options, could you physically fit one in your bedroom? Dining room? Corner of the lounge?

i wouldn't put one in a cupboard, not even if I left the door ajar when it was on & id never out one in a child's room.

Cuddlywuddlies · 30/10/2022 14:49

Ours is in the laundry room which is down the other end of the house (by the bedrooms)

🤷‍♀️ I find ignorance unbearable.

For those of you putting them in sheds and garages be careful, a friend of mine was alerted a few weeks ago by a neighbour that his shed was on fire, that's where they kept their tumble dryer, but because it was in the garden no one noticed the smoke or the smell until it was ablaze. I rarely use mine but won't put it on when I'm out or in bed now either.
