Where is your tumble drier?

Not meaning to be distasteful. I know electricity prices are on the up but we need to get a tumble drier. 2 young DC plus DSC and the washing is just taking over. Not enough drying space. Evident today when bedding has had to be washed as sickness bug in household - I have bedding draped on every door, clothes horse and bannister and still the clothes horses are at capacity.

So.... we have no utility room and no space in the kitchen to add the tumble drier..... where is yours???

Also considering a washer drier but not hearing good reviews.

Garage/outbuilding. We have electricity supply in there.

angieloumc · 30/10/2022 16:34

I have a lower ground floor kind of utility room and mines in there. You put them where you can and before I moved to this house six years ago I had it in the bathroom. As pp say a heat pump dryer works better when the room isn't cold so if I'm using it I rather annoyingly have to put the heating on down there.

Swissnotswiss · 30/10/2022 16:36

We're abroad and our washing machine is in the bathroom with the dryer stacked on top.

NiqueNique · 30/10/2022 16:37

We don’t have one atm but when we get one again it’ll be a washer/dryer and will sit in the kitchen. We’ve both had several washer/dryers between us (in previous rented homes) and we’ve never had any problems with them.

loubielou31 · 30/10/2022 16:37

We replaced our boiler with a combi boiler a few years ago so no longer had a water tank, basically that cupboard in the bathroom was empty so the tumble dryer is in there.

thelobsterquadrille · 30/10/2022 16:39

Ours is in the kitchen next to the oven and under the counter top.

Hugasauras · 30/10/2022 16:39

Ours was in garage before we built a utility room. Was a bit of a pain but way less of a pain than not having one in the first place!

You have to put it where you can fit it. I had a washer/dryer once but hated it. If you don't have a garage, there's nothing wrong with putting it in the downstairs loo if you can vent it. I had a friend who had washing machine and a dryer in her loo and it was fine.

Seriously considering the downstairs loo...

Ours is now in a utility room which used to be our old kitchen before we extended. Before that, when we had a smaller kitchen, we had a condenser washer dryer. It was never brilliant (everything took HOURS to dry, and they never lasted long either, we had to replace it every few years!), but you just do what you can with the space you have.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 30/10/2022 16:41

Condenser dryer in the corner of the dining room. It's not ideal but it's out of the way and does the job. Condenser dryers are great if you don't have anywhere to put a vented dryer, you just empty the water reservoir after each use.

TheChosenTwo · 30/10/2022 16:41

My friend has hers in her downstairs loo! Works for them and it’s always very warm in there 😊

Our tumble DRYER is in the garage.

🙃

Bluevelvetsofa · 30/10/2022 16:43

We have a cloakroom with a futility cupboard too. Double doors housing washing machine with dryer on top, shelving that stores soap powder, iron, ironing basket and bits and pieces.

knittingaddict · 30/10/2022 16:45

Don't get a washer drier whatever you do. Useless things.

When we had one the tumble drier was in the garage. Took longer to dry in the winter but it was our only option.

Figgygal · 30/10/2022 16:46

Garage
Not that we using it this year

LBF2020 · 30/10/2022 16:47

We have our washing machine and tumble dryer stacked in the downstairs shower room. The builders built a cupboard around them.

Houselamp · 30/10/2022 16:50

Ours is in our bedroom,
Rented flat and not where we would have put it but the bedroom smells like clean washing and makes it really quick to hang up the dry clothes.

Bedroom is behind the kitchen, where the washing machine is, so its not like we drag loads of wet washing around the house.

I find ignorance unbearable.

Shocking manners are very much the definition of ignorance. Interesting that the above was said without a trace of irony.

Our current house has a dedicated laundry room OP, but in the last place the dryer was stacked on top of the washing machine in the rear lobby. My granny's place had a small, galley kitchen and narrow bathroom without space in either. So my grandfather put in a dedicated outhouse/shed In the garden, properly sealed and all wired for electric, to provide a dedicated laundry area there.

We really don't have enough space in our homes in Britain. I lived for a time in the states where almost all homes I know of had laundry rooms.

Ever since coming home to the UK I've craved ownership of a laundry chute. It seems a really odd aspiration, but in the states they were ten-a-penny (perhaps because a lot of laundry areas are in the basement) whereas I've yet to come across even one in the UK!

GiantKitten · 30/10/2022 17:12

My DRYER (spelling & caps now compulsory 😉) is in the former airing cupboard in the bathroom with the washer. It is a very big bathroom though.
Is there any spare space in a bedroom? You can always lob the vent hose out of the window while it’s running. Mine is a very basic vented one and works very well.

Notjustabrunette · 30/10/2022 17:18

Could you get a heated airer instead if you don’t have room for one? Bit of a halfway measure I guess. I also don’t have a dryer. And am a bit sick of having clothes drying in the living room etc.

1984Winston · 30/10/2022 17:20

Ours is in the shed, I know its not supposed to be but we have no where else for it

Sestriere · 30/10/2022 17:28

I’m surprised how many have theirs in the garage like me! I did have a power point in the cupboard under the stairs but would have lost loads of coat space and I’ve a decent kitchen but would have lost a cupboard so mines in the garage too. It’s been located there 20 years now and I’m quite happy with its location.

Swannning · 30/10/2022 17:39

Ours is in the garage which has sort of been converted to a utility area.

In my previous houses I have had a (condenser) dryer in a cupboard off the living room, bedroom and in the hall.

ellieboolou · 30/10/2022 17:52

Garage as despite having quite snug kitchen the people who designed it didn't do a very good job so no space.

Hate going out in the dark or when it's raining to collect it.

BrekkieLunchDinner · 30/10/2022 17:59

The landing. It's a huge fire risk and making plans to move it in next few months (we'll ignore it's been there a decade). I had a tumble dryer in dining room before and, if necessary, I'd put it in my bedroom. I was a child who was very ill from damp in the home.
