Where is your tumble drier?

Not meaning to be distasteful. I know electricity prices are on the up but we need to get a tumble drier. 2 young DC plus DSC and the washing is just taking over. Not enough drying space. Evident today when bedding has had to be washed as sickness bug in household - I have bedding draped on every door, clothes horse and bannister and still the clothes horses are at capacity.

So.... we have no utility room and no space in the kitchen to add the tumble drier..... where is yours???

Also considering a washer drier but not hearing good reviews.

In the upstairs en suite to the spare room that we use as a walk-in wardrobe (on top of the washing machine).

We've recently renovated our downstairs and added a small utility room for the washing machine and dryer (dryer is stacked on washing machine).

Previous to this, both were in the kitchen. When we first moved in, we didn't have a dryer so had to remove a cupboard carcass to get it in!

This came up on another thread the other day and many perfectly clever people cheerfully admitted that they didn’t know the difference between ‘drier’ and ‘dryer’. Autocorrect also often gives you the former when you wanted the latter. No need to be shitty to folk pointing it out. Better learn from a stranger on the internet than a colleague. ‘My clothes are drier because I put them in the dryer.’

Anyway. We have a heat pump condenser stacked on top of the washing machine. Apparently if you are used to a vented dryer with an element it is painfully slow but it’s my first ever dryer and I don’t know any different. It is very economical. I am very conscious of fire safety with tumble dryers after a friend’s house burnt down (I’ve heard lots of posters claim it’s a MN myth but it most definitely happened and the dryer was identified as the culprit) but heat pumps operate at much much lower temperatures and are not a fire risk in the same way so we have a cupboard door in front of it.

My house is a do-er upper, it's currently in the open plan dining/living room. The plan is to seperate the two rooms and open up the kitchen.

@NC12345665 stop being a flaming twonk.

Our condenser dryer is in the closet under the stairs.

green82 · 30/10/2022 18:15

We have a washer dryer in the utility (don't use it as a dryer very often as it's not as good as the tumble dryer, it will dry fine but needs to be a smaller load to be done in 2 hours and comes out quite crinkled, but as much hate as they get I'd have this over no dryer at all if you don't have any space for a separate one) then we have a tumble dryer in the garage which we use mostly. In our last house we had it in a small wooden shed, we got an outdoor socket put in for it.

Due to the fire risk I do feel a bit more comfortable it being out the house.

Under the stair cupboard

motherofawhirlwind · 30/10/2022 18:16

In the washing machine, in the utility. Next to the 2nd one. It's the future. But trying not to use it :)

sanityisamyth · 30/10/2022 18:18

I have a washer dryer so it doesn't take up extra space. No other option.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 30/10/2022 18:38

Used to be in the lean to. Now we've moved it's in the downstairs toilet as there's a pipe and plug socket (heat pump dryer)

Notjustabrunette · 30/10/2022 17:18

Could you get a heated airer instead if you don’t have room for one? Bit of a halfway measure I guess. I also don’t have a dryer. And am a bit sick of having clothes drying in the living room etc.

Had one before. Unfortunately cats........ that's all I'm saying lol!

Mine is in the sitting room.

I’d give anything to have a utility room.

Or even a futility room 😁

Inasec24 · 30/10/2022 19:06

Ours is in the porch unfortunately

healthadvice123 · 30/10/2022 19:11

Mine is just in kitchen not under worktop just freestanding as no other space

Wonnle · 30/10/2022 19:25

In the charity shop unless they have sold it already

timetogetlost · 30/10/2022 19:42

Before we got a utility room it was in the shed and then in the spare room.

Yarrawonga · 30/10/2022 19:45

Temporality in the cellar.

Bit much.

IfIGoThereWillBeTrouble · 30/10/2022 20:02

I don’t have space for a tumble dryer in my one bed house (no hallway, no dining room, no utility room, no shed, no garden) so I do all the washing at the weekend and take it to the launderette once a week and dry it there.

TheNoodlesIncident · 30/10/2022 20:06

Ours is in the dining room. It stores the extracted water in its tank so it can go anywhere and makes the dining room noticeably warmer on drying days.

Previous tumble dryer was in a brick built shed outside, the dining room is far better as I don't have to cart washing outside and we get the benefit of the radiated warmth from it.

Inkythemouse · 30/10/2022 20:08

Ours used to be in our brick shed but now it's in the downstairs loo

JessicaPeach · 30/10/2022 20:38

I have a condenser dryer in the side shed but I don't like to go outside with the washing really so I only use it in the case of a sickness bug when I need to get every sheet and towel done on a quick turnaround!

I have a washer dryer and I love it. I sort out each load after it's been washed into stuff that can be tumble dried or not and it's usually a good split to get a nice spread on the airer and the rest in the dryer.

WeeblesWibbleWobble · 30/10/2022 20:40

In kitchen. I had a cupboard removed for it.
Previously under stairs cupboard

Old House in airing cupboard

Ivalueloyaltyaboveallelse · 30/10/2022 20:49

our Condenser dryer is in our kitchen under the worktop.
