David Lammy on LBC this morning is clearly spitting feathers. Interesting perspective from the shadow foreign Secretary.

Angela Rayner on political thinking with Nick Robinson. She's bang on the money and hearing her talk about her life and her family history I have the utmost respect for her.

Piggywaspushed · 30/10/2022 11:30

It was actually refreshing on the Justine interview hearing politicians speak at length. I know it was a soft interview but we have got so used to hearing them being interrupted.

the80sweregreat · 30/10/2022 12:09

It's a shame that those who don't follow politics that much wouldn't listen in to these type of interviews with the likes of Nick Robinson etc because it might change people's perceptions of them a bit. Instead they just form an opinion based on looks or which party they are representing
Many don't even know who their MP is either.
Yet whoever runs the country has so much influence in every aspect of our lives

bylinetimes.com/2022/10/28/rishi-sunak-received-141000-from-energy-interests/

Rishi Sunak has received £141,000 from individuals and companies with financial ties to the oil and gas sectors

I don't know what should be done about this kind of thing.

A thread from Emily Thornberry and Truss's fiddling of her expenses. How she ever became PM god alone knows, she's a disgrace and as for her possible affair with Kwarteng 😲😲😲

"What’s happening in Manston is a national disgrace. Hundred illegally detained on the whim of a politician. Women and children including from Iran sleeping on mats on the floors of tents for weeks as winter approaches. Diseases of the past rife. And now firebombs. Appalling"

Former chair of the Parole Board.

Petrol bombs were thrown at the Border Force migrant centre this morning. The suspect later killed himself.

Who isn't sick & tired of those facile phrases?

Roussette · 31/10/2022 00:01

So pleased to see Bolsanaro ousted in Brazil. Left leaning Lula elected and that's Chile, Honduras and now Brazil turning away from conservative governments

Our turn next

Yvette cooper just did a brilliant interview on R4.

Well worth a listen.

L1ttledrummergirl · 31/10/2022 08:02

This weekend the labour women have been out in force, they have been considered, thoughtful, compassionate and bang on the money.

The contrast between them and the conservative front bench was stark. They come across as intelligent human beings unlike the tories.

In the mnet interview, Starmer came across as more of a mentor, supporting his team to shine which is the mark of a good leader in my book and the opposite of the conservative model. They are showing they are about more than policy.

Fuck him, I don’t want him to go now he’s an embarrassment, he’s already made his stance perfectly clear.

DuncinToffee · 31/10/2022 08:27

Oh dear Daily Mail

Priceless from @DailyMailUK Great supporters of English water privatisation they’ve reported the dumping of raw sewage into a Cornish bay by quoting a parody account run by a spoof MP from a non existent constituency. What journalism! Sir Michael Take

It's sort of the best of all worlds for him isn't it?
He's made it plain COP27 is not a priority so that the Conservative climate deniers don't feel their PM is wasting time worrying about the environment.

And now he's going he can shut down discussion.

Mark Spencer on media duty

Kamali Melbourne: The concern was Liz Truss was talking on her personal phone

Mark Spencer(Minister for food) - “We all talk on personal phones don’t we. When I ring my wife, maybe there’s some little man in China listening to my conversation between me & my wife."

twitter.com/Haggis_UK/status/1586984670826319878?t=oJifTB6S7YhZJ8C84piHeg&s=19

Paul Brand

Conservative MP pretty fuming about this choice of language by Mark Spencer.

“‘Little Man in China’ and he is already under an ongoing investigation for telling a MP that her being muslim is uncomfortable.”

No I disagree, we know Rishi’s a charlatan environmentally because he’d said he wouldn’t go to COP (and has put Therese Coffey in charge of the environment, and told the King not to go!?) but Boris’ leadership when UK had presidency gained an commitment consensus which is better than nothing and internationally the Tories look bloody terrible if they put Party issues before not only Country, but the planet.

I mean, as I say we already know all this about the Tory mentality but the international global optics are absolutely TERRIBLE if UK doesn’t go. We still hold the Presidency until Egypt take it on at COP 27!

And you know why I think Sunak might now be going? The Guardian says the Boris Johnson might be going!

So I’ll take my hat off to Boris if he does that, I don’t care whether it’s to bang his own drum from COP 26, stay relevant to his Tory party, keep himself prominent on the international circuit, to shit-stir with Rishi as a leader in waiting, or because Carrie told him to go, or it’s a chance to mention Ukraine and his support there, or whether Johnson it’s because genuinely recognises the desperate climate emergency we’re in. Doesn’t matter now if it gets our PM to go.

I’ll be pleased if they both go. We have to pressure Rishi somehow and have no time to waste on holding governments to account on the environment.

DowningStreetParty · 31/10/2022 08:45

As for Mark Spencer, what’s he still doing in post?
and so much for the Tory party patting itself on the back around diversity and representation while it harbours racism among its MPs.

Notonthestairs · 31/10/2022 08:47

This Mark Spencer -

Spencer attracted criticism in February 2015 after appearing to defend a benefits system which, according to Labour MP Lisa Nandy, left a job seeker with learning disabilities unable to afford food or electricity because he was four minutes late for a job centre appointment. In response to Nandy, Spencer said: "It is important that those seeking employment learn the discipline of timekeeping, which is an important part of securing and keeping a job"
