I thought she was giving up politics to take a job as a quiz-master/mistress/person?

Pity she can't answer the question "What is a woman?"

I'm perfectly sure she can answer it.

Pumperthepumper · 20/10/2022 22:29

So the people who aren’t voting Labour because of their trans stance, who are you voting for?

I am not a tory voter, I have given up on the lot of them but don't pretend that this issue doesn't exist. 2 of my 3 children are gender questioning and indoctrinated regarding this issue. Thankfully my eldest is the most squeamish person ever and hasn't signed to get her tits chopped off once she turned 18.

sHREDDIES19 · 20/10/2022 22:32

This is far from a marginal issue and threatens the rights of women. Fact. My friends, colleagues, husband, in fact all those close to me, all feel the same. Labour are so out of touch with just how angry women are about how little they disregard women. Those that try to minimise are in no way a feminist.

notdaddycool · 20/10/2022 22:33

I’m a Tory (although couldn’t vote for them if there was a GE tomorrow) and think her and Rosie Duffield are so important to have as MPs, I wouldn’t vote against either.

Msgrieves · 20/10/2022 22:35

Oh nice delete me, you don't want to hear from those poor vulnerable women at all mumsnet. Ffs.

Who will you vote for?

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:37

@notdaddycool _ I have so much time for Rosie Duffield. Probably disagree with her on many things but her courage in standing up to the transfascists is something we should all admire

The fact that she feels she can't attend Labour conference because of threats says everything about these modern day bullies

AngelicaElizaAndPeggy · 20/10/2022 22:40

Do you know what, I'm actually able to look beyond Jess Philips' stance on trans rights. I'll vote for her; not least because the alternative party has caused us to almost certainly lose our home next year. Once I am secure of a roof over my head, I'll be able to afford to care about gender identity issues more.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 22:41

No.

I have been very vulnerable and I disagree with you.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 22:42

Angelica we did loose our home a long time ago ( not now) and I can tell you,it's when you are at your most vulnerability you define need these things to keep you as safe as you can be

Unintelligentposter · 20/10/2022 22:43

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:06

@Unintelligentposter - well at least you've picked an appropriate posting name. The old racism smear - the resort of those without a proper argument.

I'm not going to dignify your smear with an argument except to say there are plenty of black and female politicians I like from both sides of the political divide.

so its just co-incidence that you chose two Women of Colour when you were looking for examples of "stupidity @ManAboutTown ? It's not a "smear." it's a thesis, based on your post. I can see why you would try to brush it off. I would too if I were you.

FWIW I am the only person I know IRL talking about women re the trans debate. I work in school and everything is about inclusion. Educated, professionals, predominantly women, think inclusion is more important than women's rights. Socially men in women's sport will make some see red, but no one's really talking about it unless there's been something high profile in the pres. .

It's not as big an issue for women generally as MN thinks it is. I think it's big, but I think there are very many other things that are huge too and the Conservatives fall on the wrong side of all of them.

I'm surre you like a good old cackle with your friends Enoch and Nigel.

Make sure you take your hoods off or you might bump into something

Stankonia · 20/10/2022 22:48

The NHS being systematically dismantled will affect more women than self ID.

Women not having access to benefits to leave their husbands will have more affect than self ID.

Women watching their children going hungry will have more affect than self ID.

Abortion rights have more affect than self ID..

Not being able to claim benefits unless you prove you've been raped more important than self ID.

Racism, ablism, all affect women more than self ID.

And yes, some of us have been worried about the issues with transgender ideology long before MN told us to. We just actually care about women.

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:50

@Unintelligentposter - living up to your name again.

I have no time for Farage but you might actually want to read a bit about Enoch Powell

Halstead · 20/10/2022 20:58

Marginal issue my arse.

Yes! Stop being so bloody patronising! It's really not a marginal issue any more. The 'trans debate' killed Penny Mordaunt's leadership bid. If Labour don't get to grips with this issue they won't gain or hold power for long. It has the potential to rip them apart.

sHREDDIES19 · 20/10/2022 22:52

@Pumperthepumper now that’s the question! Tories just keep making themselves unelectable, it’s as if they are craving a period in opposition.

Lily073 · 20/10/2022 22:53

Gloryofthe80s · 20/10/2022 21:17

Would the people that can’t stand her have a different view if she changed her opinion on trans issues?

No. There are a hundred and one other reasons to dislike her.

FiveMins · 20/10/2022 22:54

Anniefrenchfry · 20/10/2022 20:49

I like her but she show boats, she speaks in sound bites. Pre rehearsed lines that she wants to say, irrelevant of the conversation.

I watched her in parliament the other day and she made a comment about what everyone was saying with a pithy sound bite. But no one had been saying what she said they’d said, so it was like she’d decided what she would say and said it, even though it made no sense

I also don’t like her policies at all. I nearly laughed there when she said Keri starmer should be the next pm. Just another sound bite that was pre rehearsed she wanted to say.

I heard her speak at a talk for about an hour and a half with Caitlyn Moran. She was very funny, articulate and we'll considered. Wasn't that bothered before absolutely loved her after. Intelligent, funny, compassionate.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 22:54

Leaky.

Because, probably like me they are liberals and think yes! Inclusion...live and let live...

Until actually that means the opposite for women!

It's nuanced and quite tricky to understand.

Oh the irony of not understanding that under ‘self ID’ the word woman has no meaning… so how do you care for ‘women’ when the word ‘women’ includes men ffs?
