God I adore this woman! She is amazing!

Would the people that can’t stand her have a different view if she changed her opinion on trans issues?

They did for JK Rowling. Same situation. She'd been out there actively doing good every day but because she wasn't openly GC she was shit, her books are shit etc.

Holidayexpert · 20/10/2022 20:45

@cinnabongene Oh FFS, I can’t stand the women, but get a fucking grip.
Why are some of you so obsessed with this marginal issue!

Marginal! How dare you trivialise this topic?

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 21:51

That one issue is monumental though!

Itscute · 20/10/2022 21:52

Doris90 · 20/10/2022 21:46

It’s right there in that posters first sentence they ‘can’t stand the women’…

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 21:53

It's not marginal and calling it that shows a lack of understanding about it.
An understanding which I might add I've only got from the good people here.

I don't feel marginal 🙄

I really don't like Phillips. Her book Truth to Power was a masterclass in self-promotion where she constantly aligned herself with brave people who were doing the right thing but without ever being like that herself.

Holidayexpert · 20/10/2022 22:00

OldReliable · 20/10/2022 20:49

Nobody in real life gives a shit about the "knows what a woman is" crap. It's probably a couple of thousand votes, if that. Mumsnet likes to make a big deal of it. But if you vote Tory just because of that fringe issue then you're just as culpable as anyone else for the shit state the country is in.

(By the way, all the changes that you hate so much in society about trans women vs women - they all happened under the tories).

This 100%!!
The obsession on here over trans issues is fucking tedious. In real life nobody gives a fuck!

Two of the people this person considers examples of unintelligence are Black women politicians . I wonder what that reveals about ManAboutTown...

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 21:51

That one issue is monumental though!

More monumental than hardly any rape cases resulting in conviction, misogynistic police forces, far higher % of women living in poverty, shockingly bad women's health care (even worse than overall healthcare), it being OK to accuse women being of deliberately crossing their legs to distract, ..?

Just generally being misogynistic in everything you do is fine as long as you give the right answer to that one question?

Alltheprettyseahorses · 20/10/2022 22:02

Women's issues. Not trans - women's.

We're actuallly being erased from our own rights movement!

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 22:03

Yes leaky it is..

You need to look into it and why it means so much if you don't get it.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 22:05

People don't care because they don't understand.

I was one of them.... I also thought who cares! Live and let live them one day as I was idly browsing mn a poster hooked me in and explained it so beautifully a) it made me feel ashamed and embarrassed that I had not realised what was at steak before and b ) I remember thinking/saying...we need this as a sticky somewhere to explain it all. ..

ManAboutTown · 20/10/2022 22:06

@Unintelligentposter - well at least you've picked an appropriate posting name. The old racism smear - the resort of those without a proper argument.

I'm not going to dignify your smear with an argument except to say there are plenty of black and female politicians I like from both sides of the political divide.

Holidayexpert · 20/10/2022 22:10

@Doris90 Get the fuck over yourself? How dare II? 😀
i couldn’t give a fuck about self Id to be perfectly honest with you.

cowskeepingmeupatnight · 20/10/2022 22:13

Yes @Holidayexpert, how very dare you? 😂

Leakygutter · 20/10/2022 22:14

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 20/10/2022 22:03

I absolutely get that it's important and hope Labour will change their position. I tell them and their supporters this at every opportunity.

However, I'm not prepared to accept misogyny at every turn as an alternative. Not when that has a such an impact on real women's lives. The Conservatives have just realised where some nice MC women's votes lay. They don't actually care and you could yet end up with Mourdant anyway.

If you were a poor, troubled woman dealing with these police forces, suffering the inferior medical care or raising your children in poverty, you wouldn't think it was more important either.

Iwasjustasking · 20/10/2022 22:15

@BrookeDavisQueen hit the nail on the head for me, I agree with every word you have said!
The things I care about are important issues to me which align with the labour parties attitude, MN is notoriously Tory driven and on the thousands of how much do you earn threads I can see why MN is aligned to the tories.
if you take a step back and for one minute think what issues might be facing the real working class people of this country you may be able to see why the tories do nothing for people like me, why I am so stressed about my mortgage, gas and electric costs, spiralling food and diesel costs that I am barely sleeping. But then the Tory MN alliance come out with take in ironing and get a better paid job like that is the easiest thing in the world! Jess Philips is for people like me that work full time and still haven’t got the money to live! Not all of us have savings, a four bedroom house in the country and earn six figure salaries! Some of us are just trying the best we can whilst sadly loosing because of this Tory government!!

Certainly don't want to vote Conservative - never have. I was until recent years a Labour voter, but their insistence on this issue has rendered me politically homeless.

Terhou · 20/10/2022 22:21

That article doesn't mention Jess Phillips?

Doingmybest12 · 20/10/2022 22:22

VioletTopaz · 20/10/2022 20:56

So an audience member has just berated her (and the Tory bloke) for sniping. Yet, she still can’t help herself sniping. It’s really not a good look.

Yes, a real shame how she responded to the woman who made the comment about sniping. It sounded like she wanted her to feel foolish . It was patronising.

Fromthedarkside · 20/10/2022 22:22

I thought she was giving up politics to take a job as a quiz-master/mistress/person?

Pity she can't answer the question "What is a woman?"

CadburyPurple · 20/10/2022 22:23

Holidayexpert · 20/10/2022 20:42

I cannot stand her! She took part in the ludicrous and now discredited anti semitism claims that were fabricated against Corbin and other members of the Labour Party!
Her and her ilk, including Starmer have no shame!!

Don't be silly. The accusations were true. Corbyn admitted it.

washingbasketqueen · 20/10/2022 22:25

I live in the UK but can't vote Labour or Tory's. Watched QT and felt that both Labour and Tory's could've put on better reps (I know they were chosen before todays shit show). Jess was ok and certainly better than the Tory mp, but I don't think she said anything that convincing.

I'd be more Labour leaning in terms of ideology but I don't think Keir is the right person for the job. No charisma and I don't know what the policies are- why is the opposition not more vocal?
I also couldn't vote for a party who don't have the intelligence to define what a woman is.

Fromthedarkside · 20/10/2022 22:25

@Iwasjustasking MN is notoriously Tory driven

Are you for real? If MN goes any further to the left it'll disappear up it's own fundament
