So the big name supporter unveiled by Boris Johnson's campaign this morning is... Priti Patel, who had the lowest approval rating of any member of his cabinet among Conservative Party members.

I wonder if Truss' wide eyed bewilderment at the press conference was because she thought Johnson got the support he did through being conservative leader, rather than cronyism.

It's a bit sad for her really but alsoshows the emperor really does have no clothes

Ian Dunt - "The country fell out of love with Boris Johnson a long time ago... because he's an inveterate liar... & a deeply corrupt Prime Minister... what does exciting politics get you... it gets a hammered economy & a PM having to have a contest with a vegetable... "

According to Twatter, Truss is drawing up her resignation honours list!

According to Twatter, Truss is drawing up her resignation honours list!

she gets an honours list? She won’t have had time to even say hello to a lists worth of people during her tenure.

Continuing yesterdays speculation of how other countries are viewing the UK. - from a Dutch newspaper.

Posted elsewhere by mistake. 🙄🤪

I don't think this will go down well with anyone anywhere....
(FYI Christopher Hope writes for the Telegraph)

There are 2 ways to axe the partygate inquiry, Chris Bryant says.

• A vote of the whole House of commons

  1. A general election (which would temporarily suspend the inquiry)

twitter.com/kateferguson4/status/1583704365973766144?s=46&t=BS1pb5cI5lpyXlUmDqX4kg

The plan is 1. If he wins.

L1ttledrummergirl · 22/10/2022 14:48

Awesome plan. Hide the mess under the rug.

They really have no clue do they?

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 14:53

It seems they've backed off from their cunning plan!

"UPDATE A source close Boris Johnson tells me he will NOT abolish the inquiry after all.
He says: “The privileges committee must and will be allowed to get on with their process, Boris Johnson will cooperate fully.”

NEW: I’m told Boris Johnson now has more than 100 backers and so could be on the ballot if he chooses to be

So Sunak and Johnson have teachers the threshold?

If neither stand does that mean Mourdant gets it even if she doesn't reach it?

And I'm really not comfortable with Johnson being allowed to lead the country whilst being investigated. I don't believe it'll be wholly impartial anyway but even less so under those circumstances because they will NOT want another Tory MP to fail in their post as PM.

InMySpareTime · 22/10/2022 15:04

If nobody else with the requisite backing stands, we're stuck with Truss.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 15:05

NEW: @ToryReformGroup survey finds 86% of centrist Tory members do NOT want Boris back.

Chair @floetry "We have seen that the party’s centrist members have been ‘quiet quitting’ for years... it's clear the return of Johnson would finally end the relationship for many."

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 15:09

I am finding it strange that 40 of Johnson's supposed nominations are anonymous. Why haven't they declared publicly?

Makes it simpler for Johnson to back out I suppose- I could have gone for it but now is not the time etc.

tobee · 22/10/2022 15:10

Dorries tweeting that the boss is back. She also claims he stood up for Ukraine when no one else would. Hmm, not the US then? Not pretty much the rest of the world? And delivered the first vaccine. What would Kate Bingham say about that?

Thread 17:. Big Dog returns?
tobee · 22/10/2022 15:14

I think Dorries is living in the (imaginary) past

ClaudineClare · 22/10/2022 15:16

The entire country:

twitter.com/i/status/1583536151969038336

ClaudineClare · 22/10/2022 15:18

The boss. Is Dorries twelve? He's still not gonna shag you, Nads.

InMySpareTime · 22/10/2022 15:19

"Supported Ukraine when no-one else would"

Er, what now?

ClaudineClare · 22/10/2022 15:29

Anyway, that's it. If he has got 100 backers, he'll be PM by the end of next week. What a travesty.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 15:35

Maybe he does. But this does sound a bit “I have a girlfriend, she’s just at a different school”.

I am loving this. The outrage, the fear, the hysteria.

But but but he had expensive wallpaper! He ate cake at work, he was as bad as a burglar! The Mirror hated him!Shock.

Calm your jets, Rishi will no doubt wangle it but you've got to love all the memes of Boris returning on Twitter and giving Labour a right old fright, no?

@Janiie While your on the subject of cake any chance you could explain to us why you think it was acceptable for a 56 year old man to have a birthday party whilst simaltaneously forbidding millions of children from doing the same?

InMySpareTime · 22/10/2022 15:40

We can only hope that when he wins the leadership contest, so many Tory MPs cross the floor that he's left with a minority Govt.

Blossomtoes · 22/10/2022 15:44

InMySpareTime · 22/10/2022 15:40

We can only hope that when he wins the leadership contest, so many Tory MPs cross the floor that he's left with a minority Govt.

That would be bliss. It would only take 35.
