@Elodie09 ..it's embarrassing and shameful especially at a time like this but can I ask where else is really doing better? .
Is anyone anywhere got time to laugh at us except for people like Putin?

He'll be absolutely loving this shambles.

But no other country rwwlly springs to mind who are in a position to laugh?

NEW: Rishi Sunak becomes the first MP to hit 100 public backers

From Pippa Crerar

TomPinch · 21/10/2022 22:05

The tragedy is that a Johnson government could have been like Macmillan's government in the 50s, ie, socially conservative and economically interventionist to achieve economic prosperity for all.

Since 1964 the UK has had governments that have been either economically interventionist and socially liberal (Wilson, Heath, Callaghan), non-interventionist and socially conservative (Thatcher, Major) or socially liberal and non-interventionist (Blair, Brown, Cameron) so this older model is forgotten.

Johnson and Mordaunt still running on the spot on 68 and 25, according to Guido Fawkes.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 21/10/2022 22:11

@L1ttledrummergirl

I shouldn't laugh but that's hilarious 🤣

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 21/10/2022 22:13

Well it's a Shame this is all happening over the weekend because the winner has to be how the markets react.

It's clear who the real boss is.
The markets.

Boris could get 200 backers but if the markets plummet,he's toast.

TheHouseonHauntedHill · 21/10/2022 22:52

I cannot believe BBC channel guy saying, market's are reacting badly to the idea that Boris is coming back. Are the market's running the show.

???

Of course they are!!

Johnson will be loving the fact that so much attention is focused on whether he will or won't stand. Ugh, it is sickening.

RagzRebooted · 21/10/2022 23:19

DH is refusing to see that any of this mess is a consequence of Brexit, in any way. Not just the economic impact of leaving the EU, but the divisions and nonsense of the Conservative party. Surely if Bexit hadn't happened, we would not have had Boris Johnson in the first place?
DH voted for Brexit, I didn't. I was telling him he is very slightly to blame for all this.

As much as I'm enjoying the popcorn-clutching entertainment of all this political turmoil, I'm mostly concerned that no one is currently running the country, there's no realistic economic plan and several ongoing national and global crises.

Sky News seems to be saying he has confirmed he is standing. Currently flying back (BA economy class, not sure what message he is trying to send with that).

Man of the People, innit? Like anyone believes that after wallpapergate.

ClaudineClare · 21/10/2022 23:23

James Duddridge, a Johnson-supporting MP, told PA Media: “I’ve been in contact with the boss via WhatsApp. He’s going to fly back. He said: ‘I’m flying back, Dudders, we are going to do this. I’m up for it.’”

🤢🤢🤮

Jason118 · 21/10/2022 23:30

A misunderstanding, another woman became available?Smile

Theskyisfullofbirds · 21/10/2022 23:31

A bit of light relief 🙏

The Boss. Oh dear, he really does have a load of insane loyal followers doesn't he? I guess he's the only hope they can keep their seats, so he will be like God to a lot of them.

TomPinch · 21/10/2022 23:39

The boss 🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮

How utterly cringe. What a sycophant.

I guess there's a cabinet post in it for him.

Roussette · 22/10/2022 00:20

The boss my arse.

How low we have sunk.

New: Boris Johnson has been personally calling Tory MPs from his holiday in a bid to secure their backing,

He promised one MP that there would be a "different culture" in Downing Street if he becomes PM again.

Yeah yeah heard it all before. One reply likened it to domestic abuse"I promise I won't do it again if you'll give me one more chance"

Jesus, keep it in the pub. Sick of supposedly amazing professional politicians talking like pissed up dickheads with their ties on their heads and a lighter up their arses.

‘The boss’ and fucking Dudders should keep the pillow talk in their Dutch oven.

He has to promote freebies.

Rhondaa · 22/10/2022 09:48

I am loving this. The outrage, the fear, the hysteria.

But but but he had expensive wallpaper! He ate cake at work, he was as bad as a burglar! The Mirror hated him!Shock.

Calm your jets, Rishi will no doubt wangle it but you've got to love all the memes of Boris returning on Twitter and giving Labour a right old fright, no?

itsgettingweird · 22/10/2022 10:04

It's not Labour who are afraid.

It's the general public that they work for.

It's not a joke when people can't afford to live.

TomPinch · 22/10/2022 10:05

Rishi Sunak may be more popular among the MPs but if it goes to a run off v Johnson the senile old fools of party members will choose Johnson. This is why we all have to hope that Johnson won't get 100 backers. He presently needs another 30 from the 150 or so Tory MPs who have not indicated a preference yet.

Notonthestairs · 22/10/2022 10:05

Never mind Johnson. What are the Government doing to our schools & children?

📊 #IFSSatStat: The new National Funding Formula has boosted funding for the most deprived fifth of schools the least (by less than 1%) since 2017.

This follows bigger cuts for schools in deprived areas during the 2010s, esp. outside London, where educational outcomes are worst.

'It's not a joke when people can't afford to live.'

Yes and thankfully the gov energy price guarantee will help everyone. Plus of course the £400 energy bills discount for all households.

It isn't a joke that some people are struggling, my point was Labour's fury and indignation is amusing. They know BJ would slash their chances when it some to a GE. Sunak will swing it though but it I am enjoying the spluttering and handwringing nonetheless.
