"Asked if he thought the Conservative party’s online members’ ballot could be fully safe and secure, Cyber security expert Prof Ian Brown, formerly Principal Scientific Officer at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, put it simply: “No.”

Ripe to be contested.

Sorry I'd this has been linked before but here is EXACTLY what the world thinks of us.
I'm furious as to what we've become

Yes I laughed & winced at Trevor Noah's bit on The Daily Show last night. It's uncomfortable being laughed at.

That’s made me feel a bit sick. It really illuminates how much of a mess we’re in.

DuncinToffee · 21/10/2022 17:51

Remember how we all looked aghast at what was happening in the US with Trump, and here we are Angry

Cornettoninja · 21/10/2022 18:09

James O Brien said today that there was a headline today calling us ‘Britaly’.

it’s clever….

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2022 18:20

It was the Economist.

Quite offensive to Italians really.

Saucery · 21/10/2022 18:23

Oh look, pizza shield and a forkful of spaghetti. Shame on The Economist for running with that cartoon.

tobee · 21/10/2022 18:31

Right who started this thread and did the title???? Hmm!!! Come on!!! Explain yourself!!!

DuncinToffee · 21/10/2022 18:45

And whilst this shitshow run, the country comes to another standstill

A civil servant texts: "I’ve had meetings with ministers cancelled because they are too focused on their infighting and leadership campaigns. This madness means that absolutely nothing can be done, and even if they get a new leader, we’ll get new ministers and every time
there’s a new minister all our work halts and we have to spend months getting them up to speed for them to decide whether."

Political paralysis leads to government paralysis.

Via Lewis Goodall

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2022 18:46

As I said I think we've been without a government for a year. Good thread from Lewis Goodall about the impact. Worth a read in full -

twitter.com/lewis_goodall/status/1583046531682140160?s=46&t=vygeO7k51V8O0T6yiZivBg

"Real world consequences of govt in paralysis significant. Whitehall seizes up. This has more or less been case since the start of the year. Partygate gave way to vacuum which gave way to crisis and more paralysis. UK govt hasn’t been anything approaching normal for nearly a year."

"A civil servant texts: "I’ve had meetings with ministers cancelled because they are too focused on their infighting and leadership campaigns. This madness means that absolutely nothing can be done, and even if they get a new leader, we’ll get new ministers and every time..."

Given the deep divisions within the Conservatives and the Privileges Committee etc this will continue.

Hilarious x post Duncin Grin

DuncinToffee · 21/10/2022 18:48

Grin great minds

Notonthestairs · 21/10/2022 18:51

Another thing I read but now can't find is the risk of pushing back the Halloween budget because new PN rejects Hunts maths.
Bank of England has a Monetary Policy Committee meeting on 3rd Nov. Ideally they'd see the OBR before then so they can coordinate policy. We know what happens when they don't...

tobee · 21/10/2022 18:52

It's just absolutely flaming marvellous. Makes you so proud.

Locally the foodbank I run is getting busier.

And we are a supposed affluent area. Most of our clients work.

TomPinch · 21/10/2022 19:22

Guido Fawkes says:

Sunak 88
Johnson 67
Mordaunt 24.

So Sunak has pulled out in front. Johnson has picked up a paltry 20 MPs in 24 hours and I'm starting to think he won't get his 100.

The question is where it would redistribute to.
