It's true what was brought up on QT just now
If the conservative's record is so good , low unemployment, the energy crisis bail out, getting brexit done etc , then why don't they go to the country ?
Why are they so scared of it ?
It's food for thought

order-order.com/2022/10/20/whos-backing-who-the-spreadsheet-returns/

Latest nominations:

Johnson 41
Sunak 30
Mordaunt 15

ClaudineClare · 20/10/2022 21:39

Johnson now up to 44. This is crazy.

TomPinch · 20/10/2022 21:41

Dunno. Alternatively it shows he won't make 100 as all he has left are die-hard supporters who will back him early.

A bit like election night then Labour always run into a huge early lead.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 21:44

That list has a lot of unnamed MPs. Im not sure I'd trust it.

TomPinch · 20/10/2022 21:45

Yeah- it will be based on gossip & it's nothing official, but interesting anyway.

Crazy seems to be the fashion.

Incidentally, I thought this was going to be rigged somehow to not go to the membership? 🤔

EsmaCannonball · 20/10/2022 22:02

I'm not a Tory voter and I always feel befuddled by the candidates Tory politicians and party members seem enthusiastic about. It's like when your friend gets engaged to someone hopeless or awful, and you're thinking, 'Why can't she see it?' At the moment, everyone interviewed seems to be coming out for Penny Mordaunt, as if all the stories about her embellishing her CV and being completely out of her depth at ministerial level have already been forgotten. (And I just can't get past how much she's styled as someone ITV would have cast as a country-dwelling wronged wife in a Jilly Cooper mini-series, circa 1986.)

The candidates were so poor last time but I just don't see why anyone credible would seriously want the job this time. Anyone with long-term personal ambition will be calculating their chance of keeping their seat in a Labour landslide and hoping to take over the leadership in opposition.

Roussette · 20/10/2022 22:04

Let him back in. It will show the Tories up for the idiots they are. I'm away at the moment and mixing with different nationalities...we are a complete laughing stock. The lettuce 🥬🥬 is all over world press. You couldn't make it up.

Let Big Log Dog sink the party.

Sometimes you just have to flush twice!!!
(In the spirit of honesty, I will admit to pinching that pun from elsewhere!)

BoreOfWhabylon · 20/10/2022 22:06

It's a good one Roussette Grin

EsmaCannonball · 20/10/2022 22:09

If they choose Braverman that's a sign that they've learned nothing in the past few weeks.

God, Braverman or Mordaunt? It's like being asked if you want strychnine or arsenic.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 22:10

I'm trying to work out what would happen if Johnson gets back in.

He might be of the centre left of the party by nature (possibly, I know it questionable whether he has any real principles) but weirdly he's sponsored and owned by the right wing (Brexit)

Would he agree to Hunt's budget? (Unlikely)
Who would be Chancellor - not Sunak, not Javid, not Gove. Mogg? Zahawi? (again)
Will he reappoint most of his previous cabinet (minus the obvious) so Braverman, Patel, Dorries & Badenoch back in.
I dislike Boris but his Cabinet was just truly dreadful.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 22:10

😬 that post was just a brain dump.

Roussette · 20/10/2022 22:24

I just CANNOT imagine, or what sort of cabinet he would reside over.

Which means it's quite likely to happen

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 22:28

Rees Mogg is Johnson's campaign manager. He wheeled out the old Back Boris WhatsApp.
There is no way the EEG isn't getting first dibs on key Cabinet posts.
We will literally be back where we started.
(Apologies for using the word literally)

Yeah- I think this is why Badenoch won't run (which means Braverman will.)

Badenoch has an absolutely epic majority in Saffron Walden. She's clearly very popular in the constituency and even if the Tories are reduced to a rump of 20 she'll be one of them.

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/10/2022 23:22

If they give it Johnson, all the other parties have to do when we get an election is show three pictures next to each other:
Boris raising his glass at farewell bash in covid
The Queen sitting alone at Prince Philips coffin
The queen's coffin passing her horse

I think that would do it. They could also include Truss meeting the Queen just before she died to really screw the knife.
The images will jog the nations subconscious.

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/10/2022 23:25

Apparently there were loud cheers heard around dds school when Truss stepped aside. It's nice to know the 6th formers there are engaged. She usually rolls her eyes when I talk politics but is very engaged at the moment.
Both ds were messaging me about it as well as their friends. I don't think the young will forget.
Their reaction to Johnson was incredulity.

Thought this might be the best place to post this. Absolutely glorious!
