Walker said he was leaving Parliament at the next election. Looked like he'd had enough.

Yes, but he sounded reasonable when he spoke last night.
Couldn't he stand, win, then call a general election?

We can dream can't we?

TomPinch · 20/10/2022 19:09

It's going to be Mordaunt, isn't it?

Truss mk II.

Mordaunt, more crises, early GE. I hope.

Fladdermus · 20/10/2022 18:45

So I reckon we'll get Braverman.

I do think she should be PM.

However - if she's in No 10/11 she's not around here with her shaggy mc smug face on.

Plus if she gets in and comes out with her salivating talks on planes to Rwanda and puts the whole of the country In the same camp as those few who protest by gluing themselves to roads she will destroy the Tory's as effectively as the past few leaders.

Plus I kinda think her and Starmer at PMQs would be fun. Lawyers going to head to head!

itsgettingweird · 20/10/2022 19:20

Don't** think. That should say.

The rest was just tongue in cheek positives if she was!

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 19:21

Penny Mordaunt would annoy those who won't vote , or even consider , Labour because of the gender ID debates
She rowed back in her earlier view on it I believe ? Not sure. she was good the other day in parliament, but I also think she would be divisive.

itsgettingweird · 20/10/2022 19:26

What does a Johnson have that the people love?

He's like that friend you know who lies daily on FB and no one challenges because "that's just them".

The person who is late to every event but no one cares because "that's just them".

The person who cancels for better offers at the last minute but no one ever stops chasing them for meet ups because "that's just them".

So many MN threads over the years about people dealing with the Johnson's of this world and so many people saying "drop them" "grey rock" "call them out".

Yet in RL no one does and even defends them like a wounded donkey when they are called out and pout like a toddler.

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2022 19:30

Same with Trump, I think people, men particularly, admire that he can get away with the things he does, casual racism, sexism etc. Boys will be boys bollocks.

Lonelycrab · 20/10/2022 19:37

Soap opera time again 😑

Bunch of eeedjuts the lot of them. You are unable to form a stable govt, so stand down for the good of this country.

Everyone’s fed up of this now.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 19:38

It's obvious , but the thing winding me up the most is that IF the conservatives were 30 points ahead in the vote polls they would be so happy to have a GE , positively gloating.
It's always party above the people , always
It is annoying

Roussette · 20/10/2022 19:45

It can't/won't be Johnson surely. He's been sunning himself in the Caribbean, has done nothing for his constituency since resigning, is likely to lose his seat, missed last night's vote which is one reason in itself, and is still under investigation for something or other.

This is going to be a very stormy week indeed

She certainly will. It will be highly entertaining. My bloke would be pleased anyway, he was furious she wasn’t in the final two last time.

I missed one really important change in the procedure for polling Tory MPs. This time there will be an "indicative" vote once the candidates are down just to two, so that Tory members will know - which they didn't in the last election - which candidate commands...the majority support of MPs. This matters, because it means that Tory members will know the clear preference of MPs, and the presumption is that they will think twice about foisting a leader on Tory MPs who would be supported only by a minority of those MPs.

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 19:54

I thought they did know last time.

TokyoSushi · 20/10/2022 19:54

Oh back to indicative votes, that's a blast from the Brexit past!

Is it democracy if people are told who they have to vote for before they are allowed to vote?

peridito · 20/10/2022 19:58

I don't understand under what circumstances in this selection process will the general Tory membership be invited to vote .
Is it if they end up with 2 nominees ?

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2022 20:04

The members clearly can't be trusted to make their own decisions

North Korea call themselves democratic too

'Selectorates' are undemocratic too imo. In a Westminster system Parliament is supreme, so I'm my view it's wrong for MPs in Parliament to have leaders foisted on them. Practically speaking bad too (exhibit A, Truss, exhibit B, Corbyn.)

Piggywaspushed · 20/10/2022 20:18

QT is somewhat uncomfortable viewing.

I know what you mean, but I think prime feel that Johnson doesn't judge the. Controversial, but I think a lot of people feel that left wing politicians judge then pretty harshly and think they'd rather have a drink with Johnson.

Saucery · 20/10/2022 20:38

And they’re back to talking about bloody Johnson again.

Saucery · 20/10/2022 20:38

Sorry, that refers to QT.

tobee · 20/10/2022 20:43

Hmm if the dates were just a liiiiitttle bit shifted Johnson could be unveiled as "new" pm at Halloween
