At least this isn't going ahead

Understand Suella was due to make a major announcement about slashing student visa numbers tomorrow

It's like she totally forgets that her own personal advantages she's gained from the Uk and its education system are because her own parents were granted immigration to this country.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 06:18

The daily Mail online has a photo of the PM and she looks dreadful.
If I were her , I'd quit while I had some dignity left.

the80sweregreat · 20/10/2022 06:24

It was heartwarming hearing Chris Bryant bring interviewed late last night and he said he hugged his friend who was a conservative and struggling with all the disorder.
He seems such a lovely person all round.

"Nothing says ‘normal government’ like a 1.33am message from the PM’s press secretary saying Downing St mistakenly told a minister that a confidence vote wasn’t actually a confidence vote."

Post pub messaging is rarely a good idea.

Will be interesting to see who they withdraw the Whip from.

Will be interesting to see who they withdraw the Whip from.

I'm going to bet the answer is no one.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 07:42

I'm sure they'll receive strongly worded letters.

Government is not really in a position to do anything else.

Crispin Blunt saying Truss should resign today. He also said she should never have put herself forward in the first place.

The Week in Tory is going to be longer than Lord of the Rings.

ClaudineClare · 20/10/2022 08:07

Looking forward to today's Tory chaos. I had a bet with a friend that Truss would last until Halloween 🎃. I think she might be gone a lot sooner.

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2022 08:16

36 MP's is the latest count

twitter.com/PippaCrerar/status/1582982471062151170?t=IbPHZjjbrBQyRl17y3nvNw&s=19
CORR: Vote results site has been updated to show 36 MPs - those removed from this list include Liz Truss who we’re told did vote… but forgot to swipe her pass.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 08:19

"My NEW @theIFS report funded by @HealthFnd finds that systems for allocating funding for schools, councils, public health and the police are ‘not fit for purpose’, and in some instances actively work against the ‘Levelling Up’ agenda. [1/X]

Disgraceful. They are basing funding calculations on old data (some of it 20 years old). Surely this is basic government?

borntobequiet · 20/10/2022 08:31

I wonder what in this country is fit for purpose right now? I’m sure there must be something, please tell me if you know of anything.
TBF my GP surgery is excellent, but that’s not the big picture.

My system of using buckets to catch rain to fill my water butt worked very well this morning, butt nearly full. Hard to think of anything else. The weather forecast on my phone was hideously wrong at 6am so that was definitely not fit for purpose.

"The free trade agreement (FTA) between the UK and India is unlikely to happen because of political instability and economic crisis in the former country, people familiar with the matter told TNIE."

India's unwillingness to offer anything substantial may also be a factor..."

twitter.com/davidheniguk/status/1583001371753598976?s=46&t=2TZbgP3ZuzNy81AiEV8MqQ

Political instability & economic crisis - that is us.

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 08:48

It seems that Truss failed to vote last night so she should lose the Whip if it was a confidence vote.

ClaudineClare · 20/10/2022 08:49

Gilt yields are rising again, apparently. I don't pretend to understand the ins and outs of this, but it is a bad sign.

Tories saying she did, but she "forgot to swipe her pass".

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 08:51

1922 committee meeting later apparently. No idea if that's routine or not.

medianewbie · 20/10/2022 08:55

I've only just seen the newspaper headlines today. Utterly shameful. Its the sheer unnecessary waste of it all. 'Snow on snow, snow on snow on snow'. Were not even IN the bleak midwinter yet but I'm scared (disabled Carer for two disabled children) cold, and angry.

L1ttledrummergirl · 20/10/2022 08:57

How do you forget to swipe your pass? Surely it's something you do at every vote so should be automatic? To not do something so basic as follow a procedure you've been doing for 10 years is just incompetence.
How is she PM when she can't even do the very basics her job entails?

Blossomtoes · 20/10/2022 08:57
