I think to be fair there seem to have been some technical issues with passes last night. But convenient though 🙄

Cornettoninja · 20/10/2022 09:02

Political instability & economic crisis - that is us

Sad

how the mighty fall eh? We’ll be lucky to end up comparable with ex-soviet countries.

No government worth their salt will want anything to do with the failing state that is the UK atm.

It's only been 10 years since the 2012 Olympics. It seems like a different Century.

medianewbie · 20/10/2022 08:55

I've only just seen the newspaper headlines today. Utterly shameful. Its the sheer unnecessary waste of it all. 'Snow on snow, snow on snow on snow'. Were not even IN the bleak midwinter yet but I'm scared (disabled Carer for two disabled children) cold, and angry.

Sending you virtual hugs. It is a frightening time for many of us.

54isanopendoor · 20/10/2022 09:30

@ClaudineClare Thank you xxx (sorry, didn't mean to bleat on : a bad week)

That's it tho' - there are SO MANY of us putting on an extra jumper, carefully putting our leftovers in tupperware, (in itself not a bad approach to life, as it saves money / the planet etc) but its out of unnecessary Govt-created FEAR.

I'm telling the kids not to worry about the blackouts they are reading about / the teacher strikes coming, 'I know its an exam year, just keep trying your best, it will be okay'. But it isn't & they know it too. It's really hard to stay upbeat & ignore it.

We're not at war. We are not in Ukraine. But we are squandering the very stability & resources that they, & many countries around the world, would give their eye teeth for. Meanwhile many of us (most of us really) are scared & angry in the UK.

<goes off to make more coffee as rant will clearly continue otherwise>

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 09:35

I agree with @garystreeterSWD I had high hopes for Liz Truss but after what happened last night her position has become untenable and I have submitted a letter to Sir Graham Brady.

Yes I worry about where we are headed.

54isanopendoor · 20/10/2022 09:39

<'namechange fail' too (I have one name via my laptop & one on my phone - no idea how to rectify - defo need more coffee !...>

Cornettoninja · 20/10/2022 09:46

@54isanopendoor your post really resonates with me.

I understand the threat putin poses to the world, absolutely, but there’s very little communication about the aims of supporting Ukraine and what direction we’re heading in. What’s the end goal here? At the moment it’s just bleated as the reason we just have to put up, it couldn’t be further away from a government moving away from ‘nannying’ when their line is ‘because I said so’.

as an aside ‘nannying’ is bullshit. Fact is that a collective response in certain situations gives us all the best value. It’s bulk buying and makes economic sense for necessities like energy and transport.

James O'Brien telling it like it is on LBC right now.

I can't help feeling it is a waste of time. Sorry, starting to feel a bit despairing right now.

DuncinToffee · 20/10/2022 10:42

I get what you are saying but Labour keeping the pressure on and holding the Tories to accountability is a good thing.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 10:46

Yvette Cooper: “the cabinet was only appointed six weeks ago. The Chancellor’s been sacked. The Home Secretary sacked. The Chief Whip sacked and then unsacked…Conservative MPs last night fighting like rats in a sack. This is a disgrace.”

twitter.com/lewis_goodall/status/1583029920757792768?s=46&t=juDVE43VJKcubEV7RrpxQQ

I think that is worth saying out loud in Parliament.

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 10:57

Nadine Dorries still plugging away

"One person was elected by the British public with a manifesto and a mandate until January ‘25.
If Liz Truss is no longer PM there can be no coronation of previously failed candidates.

MPs must demand return of @BorisJohnson - if not it has to be leadership election or a GE."

“There are so many witnesses who want to come forward.”

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 11:33

I think the right wing of the Conservative party are on much more comfortable ground now - professional victims. No leader was ever going to meet their expectations because their expectations are utterly impractical. So they can keep howling at the moon safe in the knowledge that whatever nonsense rhetoric they pump out won't ever see the light of day.

Orangesandlemons77 · 20/10/2022 11:58

I think she will go today. I hope so anyway..

Notonthestairs · 20/10/2022 12:02

Brady has gone in to No 10. She's done.
I'd love to know what is going on in the Tufton Street offices right now.
