So the Home Secretary was leaking confidential information to journalists?!

Fladdermus · 19/10/2022 18:34

Given the merry go round of ministers I must say I am disappointed that Govey, Govey Govey isn't back yet.

I have to confess I'm kind of missing Govey. I think I need therapy.

Johnathan Gullus on sky news what an ass hat. Talking at breakneck speed. Load of old desperate cobblers.

Just watched that. He was an arrogant tosser as per.

Now catching up with PMQs.

Send Gin

To be fair it’s actually surprisingly common for leaks to the press to come from a minister’s special adviser etc. as a way of testing the water regarding public opinion.

itsgettingweird · 19/10/2022 18:39

Probably not usually from ministers and MPs themselves?

Liz Truss looks so angry at PMQs every time someone meets her.

itsgettingweird · 19/10/2022 18:40

Kier Starmer is showing his sense of humour though!

I should imagine he's pulling strings in the background.

Google images let me down looking for a Gove as puppet master image.

But here's this sexy pic for those missing him:-

Braverman wants to be the candidate of the Tory right -

Now had this from two ex-ministers: Both point out that it's unheard of for Home Secs to send official info via personal email and asking whether Braverman jumping ship to position as the next candidate for the right 1/

Letter drills in on immigration, immigration, immigration - expressing concerns over govt commitments to honouring policies on stopping illegal immigration, overall migration numbers and small boats. "She's trying to position for leadership," says one former minister

I don't think she was testing the water though. She was briefing against the government and trying to undermine the PM. She absolutely should have been sacked if the reports are correct. ((She should never have been appointed in the first place but that's a whole other thread.)

The energy price cap guarantee is so time deaf when on repeat.

It's a price cap per unit. It's still double what it was last year.

Double.

Those who were on the breadline or on poverty a year ago just cannot afford it.

Even raising benefits by inflation rate won't cover the rise.

I get that there's outside influences in this.

But do they really think that by doing this it won't have any effect on those carers and disabled people already living in poverty?

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/10/2022 18:58

Graham Stuart saying its not a confidence but at the same time it is a confidence vote.
Now not answering the question from his own back bencher, he said its a party management issue.

The lot of them need to vote with Labour.

He is such a knob

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/10/2022 18:59

This is the tory MPs chance to do the right thing- they need to take it.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 19:00

Daniel Kawczynski(Tory MP) is coming up with some wild conspiracy theories about officials in the Bank of England & the Treasury conspiring against the government.

Sam Coates can't quite believe what he's hearing.

I know I've traumatised plenty with the thread title, but just in case I missed anyone, here's a Govey clip to ensure you're in therapy for life:

Robert Peston

Government announces the fracking vote is no longer a confidence vote - because of the scale of the expected rebellion by Tory MPs. Truss could not afford to expel them. It is no longer clear what authority she has over her party. Extraordinary. Yes (yawn), another u-turn

L1ttledrummergirl · 19/10/2022 19:09

The tory MPs hadn't got that message just before the vote though, they were angry.

It was pointed out that they didn't know what they were voting for.

How can our parliament operate like that?
It's disgraceful.

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 19:11

Jess Phillips just tweeted

Massive Tory row going on in the lobby, literally trying to force people through. Lots of anger

tobee · 19/10/2022 13:12

Interesting.

Jason Stein was Prince Andrew's PR adviser and left around the newsnight interview purportedly because he advised against doing it

ClaudineClare · 19/10/2022 19:20

So chief whip has gone now?

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 19:21

Looks that way, via Pippa Crerar

BREAKING: Tory MPs now claiming that chief whip Wendy Morton and her deputy have both resigned - after fracking vote shambles. Total chaos engulfing govt.

ClaudineClare · 19/10/2022 19:23

Gary Gibbon on C4 saying that she is done and that they are now all fighting for the crown and that three MPs have come up to him and said it's time for Johnson to come back!

DuncinToffee · 19/10/2022 19:24

BREAKING: The House of Commons votes by 326 to 230 against banning fracking, despite the Government's own manifesto pledge not to allow shale gas extraction in the UK.

Christ, I've only been out to DD's football training!

BREAKING: The House of Commons votes by 326 to 230 against banning fracking, despite the Government's own manifesto pledge not to allow shale gas extraction in the UK.

They still had the vote, despite all the chaos? Surely it's meaningless if they had to be coerced into it?
This is government... It's ridiculous.
