Moving on, how is everyone? DD1 finally settled into secondary, got all the GCSE options she wanted, DD2 got the secondary she hoped for and DS no longer school refuses. I hope things are going as well for you all as they are for us 🙂

That's wonderful news, you only have to worry about revision and homework now 😂

DD1 starts her GCSE options in September and one is textiles. She's on her own there but that's ok because she made a pair of overalls in a day! I am very proud.

CoffeeWithCheese · 20/06/2024 13:28

Still dealing with the impacts of it at work - people who've never coped with the transition back away from staying at home and with the ensuing challenging behaviour, placements breaking down and social care generally being a complete fucking tits up disaster area.... plus loss of some really good small day-placement providers that took people with learning disabilities and provided them with structure but didn't survive Covid.

110APiccadilly · 20/06/2024 19:51

We're doing well, DD1 is very imaginative and great fun as long as you can put up with the endless stories, generally about dogs. DD2 is just starting to talk (which I think is possibly my favourite thing to watch a child learn to do, though DD1 is starting to learn to read, which runs it a close second.)

We're more or less officially home educating now as although DD2 isn't compulsory school age yet (actually she isn't until 2026) she's eligible for the 30 free hours so I keep getting asked when she'll start in Meithrin (Nursery Class)! So we're finding our feet in the local home ed community as well.

I was unusually at home yesterday morning and ended up listening to a 5live phone-in about whether people who had convictions for covid offences should have them overturned. There was a very sensible legal person explaining how the law wasn't clear even to the police and so wasn't fit for purpose. I was finding it really interesting. Then the phone-in comments started and it was all people shouting about the Roolz and people sadly dying and I had to turn off.

I'm finding more and more in RL that I have conversations with people about how mad and unreasonable it all was and how they can't believe some of it actually happened. I do find myself doing a bit of an internal eye roll over stuff at work that I pointed out the madness of at the time and everyone shrugged about (quarantining reading books anyone?)

I cant help wondering if election canvassers have got a list of people who are still paying off lockdown fines so that they accidentally on purpose dont knock on their doors!! And i mean all parties! I bet they havent canvassed the pub Starmer got thrown out of back in April 2021!

This is very much an election issue. Im still hearing about people who lost jobs homes and marriages. The anger hasnt dissipated as much as those in power would like to think.

I second this. I often read something that sounds really sensible and I agree with and realise it's Bog

I've been so lucky and feel back to normal (and not the 'new normal' that was threatened). Been along to 2 stadium gigs this month and have been promoted. Dd seems fine thanks to other ads who were willing to meet up.

However, I'm worried about the wider impact of lockdowns in the widest sense, on our economy, on our mental and physical health and on our children. I didn't think we had a clue at the time about the long term impact of isolating people and I think it's just starting to play out now. I've no idea what party to support as they were all lily livered during the time we needed them to stand up most and the instinct for self protection over community horrified me.

I guess I'm older, wiser, more cynical and more terrified than ever. It pisses me off that the same people who screamed for more restrictions are now moaning that children aren't ready for school and their development has been disrupted (well d'uh).

On balance I'm just grateful that the the 'old' normal has been reinstated and the people who want us to live governed by a virus that spreads like smoke are ignored. I want a masks for community use reviewed properly as they're obviously as useful as hanging a crow around your neck but thank goodness the ads are actually the majority even if we don't control the narrative. I'm grateful for each and every one of you

I am honestly pretty amazing

I retrained in 2021, i have an extremely successful business that is my pride and joy that has significantly grown year on year and I am happy. I now put money aside all the time to cushion me because the fear of losing everything like we almost did thanks to lockdown will never leave me

My 3dc all doing well eldest just done a A levels and predicted top grades and he passed his driving test a few months ago. Not bad considering I didn't do any home schooling whatsoever (I was too busy doing 12 hour cleaning shifts the whole way through covid to try and make sure the mortgage was still paid) my Other two 10 and 15 are doing well too but 15 year old still has fairly horrendous anxiety that started in 2020

Can't remember what my username was originally in the hell of 2020/21. But I am pretty sure I got banned a couple of times during these days, probably for calling people cunts
<waves to ADs who will know exactly who I am thanks to that little nugget>

But I want to say that the ADs literally saved me because in September 2020 I was in the darkest place imaginable

A bunch of us are still friends now and i love them all xxx

Falling apart im afraid. The lockdowns brought an aspect of my life into stark focus after making me realise that life is short.

Just out of curiosity I checked Brazil deaths where the president refused the jabs. Out of a population of 213 million, 700, 000 died my awful maths calculates a third of 1% died.

So then I checked UK. Population 67.9 million. 232k died. Again a third of 1%.

Please feel free to check my maths
