How long were you dating your partner before you got married?

Was having a conversation with my cousin about how long you should date someone before you consider marriage and wondered about other people's experiences. I've heard about people getting married after only months of dating and still together years later and people who waited years to get married and have ended up divorced!

Just over nine years from first date to wedding day. That was eight years ago now.

Four years.

3 months til engaged. Married 6 months later

Getting on for 25 years now

8 years but it was last on our list of things to do as wanted to be able to afford a decent wedding, so did houses/pets and children first

Eleven years - nine years married today.

5 months. I have known him since I was five though. 17 years later and still going.

2 years

We dated a few months, broke up for a year(!), got back together, engaged after about a year and married a couple of years after that. Been married 3 years now with a toddler and still very happy - hoping we stay that way for a long time to come.

8 years. He turned out to be an utter cunt, which I never saw coming in the dating years.

3 months engaged / 9 months married. Waited 4.5 years to have a baby though, wanted to have some fun first. Also, wanted to really get to know each other before we bought another being into the world. Turns out with a bit of luck DH is amazing 😊

23 years. Still together

Engaged after 7 years. Married after 16 years. Second marriage and we didn't want to rush 🤣

Together 5yrs before we got engaged. Married after a further 3yrs. Been together a total of 31yrs.

3 years. We got engaged after 2 years 3 months. We were engaged and married in the same year - engaged March, married December.

It will be 6 years for us but that’s because covid/ a baby delayed things. We got engaged after three years and then the original wedding was planned for 4 years after we’d met. I was 30 when we met.

Engaged after three months, married after twelve months . Married for 27 years so far.

26 years, 13 years ago. I’ve forgotten the date though, so no wedding anniversaries.

Met in 2000, married 2004, still together. Been good times and bad times, like most marriages, but fundamentally, we're well suited.

Married after 5 years. We met and got together when i was 16 though.

Engaged after two weeks,married after 6 months. Celebrated 20 years together in September. Two kids and very happy 😁

16 years. Had 3 kids and a mortgage together by the time we got married

Four years, living together for 2.5. I think the living together is the important bit - you can’t know how you’ll be long term till you’ve lived together and shared some tribulations, and seen how that goes. Been together nearly 25 years now.

We met in 1995 and married in 2002. Still married and have two teenage DCs.
