How long were you dating your partner before you got married?

Was having a conversation with my cousin about how long you should date someone before you consider marriage and wondered about other people's experiences. I've heard about people getting married after only months of dating and still together years later and people who waited years to get married and have ended up divorced!

9 years. Would have been 7 but pandemic

We were together 9 years before getting married and have been married 26 years.

Engaged after five years. Married after eight.

Moved in together after 2 years. First dc after 5. 2nd dc after 8. Married after 11. Been together 30 years this year.

I got married 14 months after meeting my husband. We wanted to have the wedding after 8 months but certain things prevented that (hence my non white, floral embroidered dress which would have been great for a summer wedding was a bit off for the winter one we had)!

10 years and lasted less than 3 years after that

13 years and married two years ago this month. Didn't move in together until we'd been together seven years.

A bit of a contrast to first DH where we met and married in six months !

Two years dating before getting married, though had known in friendship group for two years before that.

8 years but I wouldn't have said we were "dating" for 8 years. We moved in together after a year, shared finances and essentially lived as if we were married, we just didn't have the marriage certificate.

Met and married within 12 months. Been happily married for 23 years.

9 years. Together age 16. Married 25 years. Been married 4 years now

We were together for a year and a half before getting engaged (while on holiday, but we had discussed it before then) then had a 3 year engagement (which would have been less but we decided to save up and pay for everything without loans or debt and my parents said they could only give us the money they'd promised us if we waited because my brother got married around 18 months before us so it was easier all around to wait.)

We've been married almost 4.5 years now, together just over 9 years.

We were married 14 years. It's true I had no idea what I was taking on but even with hindsight I'm glad I just jumped. I would have missed a lot if I hadn't.

3 years - 2 years to engagement, another year to get married.

Till we were old enough to marry ! Been together since 14, know each other since 4. Married at 18. 26 years ago and 6 children.

We met in 1996, got engaged start of 2000, married 2001, still together been married 21 years now.

We met in the February and got married in the August, been ,together 17 years now.

I love that we did things in our own time but I do think wedding anniversaries now seem strange as we've been so much longer together. Still like to celebrate though, and we quietly celebrate when when we first got together too. But as a pp said living together is also a big step. More chances to celebrate I guess!

from first meeting engaged after 10 weeks moved in married 6 months later still together 13 yrs this year. We both just knew, we lived quite far away from each other and didnt want to be apart so here we are!

18 months from meeting to marriage. Been together over 10 years now and married for 8 years.

Got together in august. Pregnant by the October, married the following October. Celebrate our 14th wedding anniversary next week.
