And I’m sorry β€˜vulnerable posters’ DFOD. This thread has been a wonderful source of support for many throughout this conflict. Lots of knowledgeable posters of many different persuasions and nationalities.

MissConductUS · 05/10/2022 15:11

@notimagain , two fun facts about COL Boyd. He is very much considered part of the US Army family because when he enlisted at the end of WWII, the Air Force was still the US Army Air Corp. Lots of USAF Generals after the services were separated were West Point graduates.

The other fun fact - his call sign was Ghengis John. 😁

I have never seen anything official from the Russian government which says Ukraine isn't a nation

The Russian government has decided that it knows better than Ukrainians what counts as Ukraine, and has tried to annex a chunk of it.

This is not what governments normally do to other nations that they recognise as nations.

So yeah, not taking you seriously.

@WaltzMedley
Enough is enough, I believe we should send the UN peacekeepers in to western Ukraine, for the protection of all civilians.

thankfully it’s not up to you. Have you even seen the map of Ukraine? How will sending UN peacekeepers to Western Ukraine protect β€œall civilians” ?

miceonabranch · 05/10/2022 15:44

@WaltzMedley do me a favour, the far right are thriving in Russia. It's a well known fact.

Maybe this is Putin's cunning plan. Rename the Russian troops as UN peacekeepers.

So you wouldn’t consider Putin himself to be the Russian Government? πŸ‘πŸ‘ okay then

What's the difference between a 'Government' in a dictatorship

And a

Government in a democracy

Anyone care to explain....?

back to what's important

⚑️ Minister: Ukraine's exports of agricultural products 41% up in September compared to August

#Putin signed a void decree appropriating #Zaporizhzhya NPP to #Russia. The decree is ready, the managing company too. [from a Twitter account, not Kyiv Independent or UkraineNOW]

⚑️ The Embassy of Japan in Kyiv resumes its work today β€” Kyodo

πŸ”Ί Putin completed the illegal annexation of the territories of four Ukraine's regions

⚑️ The EU ambassadors have approved details of the eighth package of EU sanctions, editor of Radio Liberty Europe, Rikard Jozwiak, reported

πŸ–‡ Poland is negotiating with the United States about participating in the nuclear weapons sharing program to counter growing threats from Russia, President of Poland, Andrzej Duda, stated this [THIS is significant. The small number of countries in the world might enlarge by more than Poland if this goes ahead]

πŸ“Œ The first newly mobilized Russian who was sent to the war against Ukraine surrendered to the Defense Forces. While still in Russia, he called the hotline of the "I Want to Live" project and received instructions on how safely to surrender to the Ukrainians

❌ Putin's press secretary Dmitry Peskov expressed confidence that Russia will recapture Ukrainian territories liberated by the Ukrainian military, where Russians had previously held sham "referendums" and which Putin "annexed to Russia

MagicFox · 05/10/2022 16:13

Also has it been mentioned that Putin has made Kadyrov Colonel General?

What do we think? Keeping an enemy close? setting him up for the blame when it escalates too far?

Can't he just loot a fridgefreezer like all the other Russian thieves?

Ijsbear · 05/10/2022 16:15

@MagicFox

I can't understand what on earth Putin is doing tolerating an utter arsewipe like Kadyrov in the first place except for shooting Russian soldiers in the back. Never mind why he's being promoted.

If we're really lucky perhaps Putin will promote him to Strategic General of the invasion.

I actually shudder when I hear this man’s name. He is utterly, utterly abhorrent. I cannot wait for him to get his comeuppance.

Kadyrov is 'Putin's bodyguard'.

He isn't part of the internal workings of Russia Army. He is there to effectively protect Putin from the Army and Secret Services.

He has been making lots of noise saying the army isn't doing their job and have been shocking. He has called for more aggression and resources saying they aren't being tough enough.

Kadyrov is theoretically loyal to Putin directly. Yet he's almost been openly saying this is good enough.

Suddenly he gets a promotion for this. Why?

Well you'd have to argue that the military defeats raise the risk of uprisings and Putin's body guards being needed. Kadyrov could be saying what Putin thinks more openly or he could be saying I need a pay rise and demanding more power for himself.

Kadyrov's fate is arguably linked to Putin's so getting a promotion smells of growing fear from both of them.

I suspect they get a crib sheet with stock phrases and some links to share with the faux innocence "oh little old me heard something somewhere fro someone. Don't know if it's true but worth researching"

They can't summarise because it does not compute

Flowers

The best time for a Russian soldier to surrender is before fighting starts. They are a clean skin otherwise they come under suspicion of war crimes. Hopefully he will also give away Russian troop and artillery positions.

I wonder how they can easily surrender though with Wagner and Chechens at their back. Russians with blood on their hands might pretend to surrender to find out how others are surrendering. It all feels quite complicated.

Sadly I think there is less between them than perhaps there once was. The stories of Tory party members being accused of staging a β€˜coup’ if they don’t follow the party line 100% is frightening. Apparently ministers no longer consider themselves and their colleagues to be loyal first to their conscience and the electorate and then to the party. We now have a Govt openly saying they can’t question their own leadership.

The other thing they do is make others summarise and send people down time wasting rabbit holes to read gobshite from suspect links. Peddlers of fake news.

A few people on twitter have pointed out now and then that a lot of the Kremlin shills all tend to come out with the same phrase all at the same time, so you must be right!
