Styles which you just don't get or like!

Just that really, and just a bit of a light hearted rant!

I will admit that in the past I have worn both of these things so I get why people where them and I'm not directing it at anyone individually!
BUT I just cannot bare false eyelashes or really long hair extensions. They both just look SO uncomfortable, I
don't know how anyone can really relax wearing them.
Especially the look when half the eyelashes have fallen off and there are just massive clumps of lashes left 😳😳😳😳 I just do not get it it! Whhhhyyyyy do people do this?!

@pictish gilets like my padded ones do a great job of keeping you warm without bulky layers on your arms. I live in mine in winter.

IWanderedLonely · 29/09/2022 08:36

I don't even know what mom jeans are?

SudocremOnEverything · 29/09/2022 08:43

Talking of younger Millennials / GenZrs: long-length boot-cut jeans. Kids, learn from our mistakes - we walked around in the rain, in the late 90s / early 00s, wearing trousers that basically acted as nasty sponges so that you didn't have to. You'll thank us later.

Yes. Living in Glasgow, the city was away with people wet up to the knees pretty much all the time. Jeans are amazingly effective at sucking up all the water on the ground and then staying cold and wet forever.

It wasn’t a great idea.

Another vote for bra straps on show. Surely the point of very narrow shoulder straps on tops is to make it look as if you are a free spirit beach babe, just one layer for me? And then they spoil the illusion by displaying a big chunk of engineering holding up those free spirit boobs. The straps are usually black, too.

When I was young ( dim past) evening dresses used to come with a little band on the shoulder inside , usually with a press stud . You used it to hold your bra strap in place so it didn’t slip out on display. My aunt used to have some very small gold safety pins with she used to hold her bra straps in place under summer dresses; I really coveted them, they seemed the essence of being grown up to my eight year old self.

Another vote in support of the long padded coat, although just above ankle length so the bottom doesn’t get wet, that’s counter productive. Everyone in Venice wears these in the winter. Toasty.

I'm always a bit sad to see (and struggle to understand) things that incapacitate women in some way.

Lashes so long and heavy the owner blinks all the time.
Nails so long they have to be held at a weird angle to do normal things.
Shoes that can't be walked in freely.
Clothes so short/tight the wearer is clearly aware the whole time and fidgeting with them constantly.

I just think whyyyyyy? Why turn yourself into an ornament? I love clothes and grooming but never anything that's going to restrict my life and stop me functioning normally.

I agree. A poster upthread mentioned dresses with trainers. I love that trend - you can't run in heels.

AngeloMysterioso · 29/09/2022 12:54

Sliders in general

furry sliders in particular

JOFFCV · 29/09/2022 13:13

I like bootcut & flares. Glad they've come back in fashion.

I love ankle boots too.

YukoandHiro · 29/09/2022 16:58

Came here for the puddlesucker chat. Never again will I have rising damp in the name of fashion. I am so glad I am old.

StarlightLady · 29/09/2022 17:14

-Trousers with skirt/dress

  • Dungarees
  • ”Slug” eyebrows.
  • Wide legged trousers.
  • Ripped jeans.
  • Granny knickers.

I like it can look quite chic.
A little bit like a trainee vicar 😉

More like Noddy!

Nothing like Noddy.
He rocks a kerchief though.

StarlightLady · 29/09/2022 18:08

No chance with Noddy, as with so many style icons, he’s gay! 🌈

I look back and think about the extremely low rise (with obligatory thong!), over-long in the leg, flared jeans I used to live in and laugh at myself.

Ah. Youth. 🤣

SudocremOnEverything · 29/09/2022 18:58

Carpenter style ones at that. We all clearly needed those little loops for hammers to… erm… browse the shops and go to university.

notacooldad · 29/09/2022 19:12

I do t mi d eyelashes and extensions although I dont have them.
I dont like scars as a fashion item ( rather than a hat, scarf and glo es to keep you warm in winter) my friend lives them so I but them for her but they are not for me.
I hate dungarees, polo neck jumpers, turtle neck jumoers, polo shirts on women, shapeless dresses, ballet flats.
I dont like ripped Jean's especially on fatties like me. I look like I've rolled of a butchers counter so I avoid them.
I dont like waterfall cardigans or anything from bone marche.

jakesbakes · 29/09/2022 21:00

See through primark leggings. Sports leggings. Sports leggings isn't even comfortable as they are very constraining and itchy when you sweat. Floral dresses over leggings. Long acrylic claws and long acrylic toenails and how the fuckity fuck do you wear shoes with them? Heeled boots that look like camel feet. PVC biker jackets where you look like a roach. Piercings above your lip.

mathanxiety · 29/09/2022 21:22

Tight drainpipe jeans on men.
Sweatpants with words on the butt.
Heavy makeup and brows that look like a six year old drew them on.
Very plucked brows.
Polo shirts with 80s style turned up collars.
Buttoned down collars on men's shirts.

ihatesoaps · 29/09/2022 21:24

Those weird Wellington boot style rubber boots 🤮

Boots that look like wellies but aren't wellies?

I don't get this.

Hangrysaurus · 29/09/2022 22:03

I have one more: tooth gems

OldTinHat · 29/09/2022 22:19

Mushroo · 28/09/2022 17:14

The no bra trend. I would not be comfortable with all that jiggling!

Not really a trend but I hate tights where one leg is a different colour to the other. Just screams ‘I’m so quirky and crazy me!’

What?! This is a thing?! Tights with legs a different colour?! I've never seen these, I think I may need these in my life! *heads off to Google...!

MarieIVanArkleStinks · 29/09/2022 22:50

For about the last three years it's been difficult to find a winter coat that isn't one of those shapeless, padded things. If I want outdoor activity stuff it's always been possible to buy these from brands like Regatta or The North Face. Now they've taken over the high street.

I like the shorter gilets and find them practical and comfortable for riding. Those long things that go right down past your bum, no.

Ubiquitous wearing of hiking gear when not actually hiking, simply because everyone else in Ambleside is wearing it and you don't want to stand out like a city sore thumb. See also, hiking poles down the High Street.

Mesh. Mesh dresses. Mesh tops. Mesh anything.

Bows. Of any description.

CookPassBabtridge · 29/09/2022 23:02

@stickynoter @DreamingOfSoftWhiteSand They are from Lolas lashes 😊 I swear by them! Never wanted extentions incase they damage my own, never got on with glue.. These ones I just put magnetic eyeliner above my top lash and it attaches! Tons of styles, they start off subtle and go all the way to drag queen 😆

Someone mentioned being worried of fake nails breaking.. they have been the opposite for me. My real nails chip constantly and are all different lengths and end up painfully short and sore.. with acrylics that all goes away. They never break, it's strong material. I can do everything, they just took a few days to get used to.

The long Amish/Victorian looking dresses I've seen all the mums wearing at the school gates atm.

Especially with trainers
