I can't get hold of my elderly dad

I live 4 hours away from my dad. He is 85 and lives alone. He is very fit and healthy for his age, and I don't have any health worries about him.

However, I have not been able to get hold of him for 2 days. We usually check in with each other every day, and I have called him loads of times, with no answer. My siblings haven't heard from him either. Unfortunately I don't know his neighbours so can't call anyone to go look.

I have to work today and tomorrow, and it is not something I can throw a sickie at easily. Of course, if I have not heard from him by the end of the day I am going up there.

Any suggestions? I am worried he has had a fall down the stairs or been in an accident.

Key safe was brilliant for us.this can be put on medical records so emergency personnel can have it.
ring doorbell that can have an add on indoor set.

You can get motion sensors that will alert you if there's a lack of motion in the house. I know someone who made a raspberry pi motion sensor but the only downside is if he has broadband and there are ever any issues you wont know what is going on.

It's better than nothing though, and your dad needs to know that he must tell you when he's going to be busy otherwise the whole process just won't work.

Glad he's safe and well. We had the situation with 84 year old MIL on Thursday night. She hadn't kept an appointment that day and we couldn't get hold of her. Ended up driving round as she's local and getting the warden to let us in to her flat. Turned out she'd gone to Brighton for the day and then on to a party. She eventually pocket dialed DP from all his missed calls and we all we could hear her singing in the background. It's funny now!
