Shame the female royals didn't walk too

Kudos to Anne who went against tradition and stood up front with her brothers and walked (and also to all the grandchildren who did the vigil) but it's a shame to see all the other females in the funeral stay crawling slowly in a car while all the men walked, just seems so old fashioned (particularly when Anne has gone against it and she is the eldest female!!)

She probably wasn't in heels though.

Emanresu9 · 19/09/2022 14:12

I agree. I wouldn’t have worn heels and I’m female so it’s not like the other women couldn’t have chosen suitable footwear and walked.

LadyWithLapdog · 19/09/2022 14:12

Heels are not compulsory to look decent or to mourn.

Hopeandlove · 19/09/2022 14:12

they were wearing heels and Kate was looking after two young children as was summer and Sophie. - and yes 14 is young

LadyHarmby · 19/09/2022 14:12

Agree it seems a bit old school and sexist

Squirrelsnut · 19/09/2022 14:13

Wasn't it just the queen's children walking?

redsunshinedasiy · 19/09/2022 14:14

And all the male grandchildren bar Edwards youngest

Well, with the exception of Tim Lawrence, it was all members of the royal family by blood who were marching. Maybe that's why.

properdoughnut · 19/09/2022 14:14

It's not a shame. There is no shame to be had in getting a car. They could all have got a car. The family should be proud of their conduct on what must be a difficult day. Shame is the last thing they should be feeling.

Quite. I would have though Zara, Beatrice, Eugenia, Meghan etc are more than capable of donning normal shoes and walking. Kate - slightly trickier with the 2 children.

Weird that three grandsons and one nephew walked but not the other grandchildren or her niece? RF in the UK is still sexist.

KimberleyClark · 19/09/2022 14:15

Anne walked with her brothers at her father’s funeral too. Good on her. Best of luck to anyone who tries to get her to do something she doesn’t want to. Noticed she had Tim beside her in the church too, everyone else apart from Charles had to sit separately from their spouses.

Hearthnhome · 19/09/2022 14:15

Quite possibly they didn’t because Anne did. It’s more striking when she was the only one.

Perhaps the women didn’t want to? Maybe they wanted the focus on Anne. Maybe the Queens Granddaughters doing it in heels wasn’t what they wanted

The grandkids did the guard of Princes all together for the first time. Anne was also the first woman to do that and the grand daughters followed suit. Maybe they made a decision that worked for them as a family.

Lunde · 19/09/2022 14:16

It has been reported that Camilla has a broken toe

I don't mean they should feel shame, I mean it's a shame that it's so sexist and could have sent a really strong positive message out (which Anne has!)

Errrrr, that would be the Royal Family where the boss for 70 years was a woman?

Exactly this . The young Royals were exemplary.

Good point - maybe they though just Anne doing it would be much more striking.

Sophie was next to Edward and Kate next to William. Meghan and Harry sat together.

Andrew didn’t have someone as he isn’t married.

What are you talking about, everyone was sitting next to their spouses?!

Dotcheck · 19/09/2022 14:19

William and Kate sat together, albeit with a child between them

Maybe they don't want to send a strong message maybe they just want to get through the funeral so they can have their private funeral

Yep, and one where Male Royal Primogeniture was done away with in 2013 for Absolute Primogeniture.

KimberleyClark · 19/09/2022 14:21

It looked to me as though Charles and siblings plus Tim Lawrence were in one row and everyone else in another. Need to get my eyes tested.

Attictroll · 19/09/2022 14:21

The whole thing felt very white and male tbh. We were playing spot the woman in the parade.

Dp annoyingly pointed out it was because it was the military and he has a point. In fact it was the whole military thing that actually put me on edge a bit as well. Did not feel representative of the reign or country to me
