Shame the female royals didn't walk too

Kudos to Anne who went against tradition and stood up front with her brothers and walked (and also to all the grandchildren who did the vigil) but it's a shame to see all the other females in the funeral stay crawling slowly in a car while all the men walked, just seems so old fashioned (particularly when Anne has gone against it and she is the eldest female!!)

It looked to me as though Charles and siblings plus Tim Lawrence were in one row and everyone else in another. Need to get my eyes tested.

No. It was Charles, Camilla, Tim, Andrew, Edward and Sophie. Then a small gap then William and Kate with the kids.

I think Meghan and Harry were together but behind Charles.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/09/2022 14:23

I think it was far more striking and poignant for Anne to be the only woman walking.

I don’t feel it is sexist at all. Just fitting.

The whole thing felt very white and male tbh. We were playing spot the woman in the parade.

Dp annoyingly pointed out it was because it was the military and he has a point. In fact it was the whole military thing that actually put me on edge a bit as well. Did not feel representative of the reign or country to me

My 11yo asked why there weren't any females in the parade. Obviously we said that there were but it was a job finding them to prove it!

@Attictroll

If you look carefully, there were a lot of women taking part in the military... they wear the same uniform in the navy so not overly obvious.

Who would you suggest take part if not the military at just 11 days notice?

gogohmm · 19/09/2022 14:27

@redsunshinedasiy

There were women pulling the gun carriage (first time ever) for instance but they wear the same uniform as the men.

Dd knows someone (female) taking part too

They interviewed a lot of women who were involved this morning. There was actually quite a few. In all sections.

You dp right. As most were military, there will be less women. But there were many. And it’s quite historical.

Ro work out of it was representative of women and/or race, you need to get the demographic of the groups involved. And work from there.

Those women were proud to be amongst the first. The procession had 3 British mounted female officers right at the front. quite a few with the carriage. And women dotted about in between. Not sure how you couldn’t spot them.

The gun carriage was lead by a woman, going from BP to West Minster.

It’s a huge shift forward. Not sure what people gain by pretending it’s not.

Maybe they didn't want to walk. What a shame that's not acceptable to you.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 19/09/2022 14:30

And yes. There were plenty of servicewomen taking part.

ThisIsNotAFlyingToy · 19/09/2022 14:31

A lot is still around the expectation that women wear really high heels. I'm surprised so many still can, especially on an uneven stone floor.

Oh fgs I didn't say it was 'unacceptable to me'. Just an observation. So dramatic 🙄

You said it was a shame. I think that is awful language to use when they are possibly just trying to get through the day and now are being judged for not grieving to your required standard.

Its the children of the Queen

Followed by the children of the King and the eldest grandchild. We will never know if the eldest grandchild had been female, if they had been included, If william had been born first, Peter probably wouldn't have been included

I was also playing spot the female, but from the pre parade and post.

Interestingly we make up 1/2 of the population.....

Couldn't tell from the parades....

Arnaquer · 19/09/2022 14:35

If they didn't all wear ridiculously high heels maybe they could.
I'd loved to have marched along in time to the music rather than be bundled into a car.

I saw loads of women in various roles in the procession, beefeaters, the navy etc

Its a state funeral, of course its going to have a heavy military presence, she was their boss essentially

JS87 · 19/09/2022 14:35

I thought it was to do with Princess Anne having had a military role?

TokyoTen · 19/09/2022 14:36

Of course there is no shame and no it's not sexist in my view. Some marched behind the coffin, some went in cars. We're not all so wrapped up in how we do things just based on whether we are men or women.

Attictroll · 19/09/2022 14:38

Saw some service women but hard to spot many. And yes all should be proud to be there and be the first.

thinkfast · 19/09/2022 14:38

Don't know what this thread is on about. The Princess Royal walked in the procession as one of the Queen's children.

It obviously was not appropriate for young children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte, to walk on a long march like that. Too much pressure. It was right that their mother went in the car with them. The Queen Consort is not a direct relative of the Queen so appropriate for her to go by car too. Megan is not a senior royal, not active member of royal family so appropriate for her to go by car as well.

There were plenty of women participating in the service and in the march.

This event was planned and planned yonks ago and approved by the Queen. What was wrong with it?

Unfair to be so nippy to NC12345665* and eyeroll when you suggested that it was ‘a shame it was so sexist and could have sent a strong positive message’. It wasn’t sexist. They may have reasons for travelling by car, Camilla and Catherine especially.

Today wasn’t about messages. It was to pay their respects to a much loved member of their family.

redsunshinedasiy · 19/09/2022 14:39

Well there's plenty on this thread that had the same thought as me. Which is fine for people to have a different opinion without it becoming an argument.

I agree. This isn't the day for sending messages.

MassiveSalad22 · 19/09/2022 14:47

There were LOADS of women in the parade!! What are you on about! I was saying to DH I was surprised how many there were. To the point I thought one whole section in front of the gun carriage was all women (except for the really tall guys immediately in front of course). But on closer inspection there were about 50% men in there too.
