anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

I wonder if they've stopped the queue to let dignitaries in. Seems a bit odd that after hours of a steady flow it's now so piecemeal.

LaurieFairyCake · 15/09/2022 00:03

The right side is the people with disabilities I think so they're much more wobbly on their feet or requiring assistance from someone holding their arm - they're being allowed to walk two by two

The left hand side is fit people, single file

Porcupineintherough · 15/09/2022 00:03

this is a massive historical event

It really isn't. One monarch dies and her eldest son succeeds her. No declaration of a new Republic, no riot or insurrection, no war of the roses. The smallest possible footnote in the history books.

Queen Elizabeth II made history during her lifetime. This is the absolute least of it, nothing but bread and circuses.

moksorineouimoksori · 15/09/2022 00:04

no riot or insurrection

Yet! :)

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 15/09/2022 00:04

Man taking photos has military uniform on so I think he's official.

Antarcticant · 15/09/2022 00:06

Queue tracker still saying queue is 2.4 miles, as it has been for the last few hours.

FlowerTink · 15/09/2022 00:06

For anyone queuing please update when you've been through and are on the other side, would love to know how it was

QueSyrahSyrah · 15/09/2022 00:07

Surely the Mails '30 hours' proclamation must be taking into account the people who started lining up on Tuesday morning, over 24 hours before the hall even opened?

Jellykat · 15/09/2022 00:07

Ahaa thanks Idisagree , thought he was just a cheeky bugger..

Someone on Twitter saying the estimate doesn't factor in the zig zag bits through Westminster.

Antarcticant · 15/09/2022 00:08

Oh, someone just put something on the plinth - what was that about?

Queue tracker...!!

Perhaps they could start bringing in fast track or add on a little train. Jeez. Strange world we live in.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 15/09/2022 00:10

Anyone in the queue on Mumsnet needs to do some sort of sign when you get there for all of us watching the live stream so we can recognise you. Maybe the Mobot?

Jellykat · 15/09/2022 00:11

This is mesmerizing..

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 00:11

Just watching and just seen a chap dart forward and put something on the steps to the catafalque, very surprised he wasn’t stopped.

Antarcticant · 15/09/2022 00:13

The guards at the front have changed from plumed helmet guards to black tricorn guards.

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 15/09/2022 00:14

Yep and that happened when the man came into take photos and he had the same red stripe trousers so presumably the photographer with that regiment (? - am not military)

Yes, what was it? You can stilll see it there - looks like a medal perhaps?

Jellykat · 15/09/2022 00:15

Does anyone know why the Beefeaters etc turn their 'stick' things downwards?
I wonder what the significance is..

Wafflesnsniffles · 15/09/2022 00:16

@PriamFarrl thankyou for you comment, I was going to say similar.
People queued for hours to walk past King George VIs coffin. As they did previous monarchs.

I signed the book of condolance in a local church today. I was moved by the experience, felt like Id taken part in history in a teeny tiny way. Queueing for hours isnt for me but I respect that others want to.

Angelofthenortheast · 15/09/2022 00:16

OK I'm in an addiction spiral of watching the live feed. I think the right side disorderliness is definitely because that's the side they're using for anyone in a wheelchair, which takes longer.

But ALSO, earlier, the right side was curtseying and bowing more, holding people up. And the left side guard is more firm in his moving people along.

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 00:17

@Antarcticant marmalade sandwich?

I wondered if turning the sharp end up was to signify they were 'on guard'?

I'm giving it till the next guard change & going to bed Sad - could watch this forever, it's mesmerising.

Was in the area tonight and apparently the queue stretches back along South Bank to London Bridge ( which is somehow very appropriate given the funeral preparation code!) . I spotted a cluster of portable toilets just in the alley way at the side of the skateboard park, though I am sure there are more elsewhere, there seemed to be plenty of stewards and police officers around and the atmosphere was very calm. I wasnt in the queue btw, I was going to the theatre.

Antarcticant · 15/09/2022 00:19

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 00:17

@Antarcticant marmalade sandwich?

😄Surely that would have been intercepted, they're not even allowed to leave them at Green Park apparently!
