anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

I have really hit a wall….my legs are v wobbly.

Cheering you on Hels. I haven't been and won't be going, but every single person I met on their way out (people I met hours before on their way in, who came back to share with me) said it had been one of the most incredible experiences.

You're nearly there!

BlooberryBiskits · 17/09/2022 14:53

@Hels20 : I hope you can carry on, maybe after a break? Would something sugary help?

Also, once you cross Lambeth Bridge speak to the marshals to explain you are not feeling well & see if they can help speed you through

I do lots of things people think are weird.

What I find fascinating about MN is that there are SO many people who can not put themselves in others shoes. They can't imagine that other people hold different views and thought process. My 18 year can not imagine a situation that he hasn't been in. He really can't. I though that was rare but it seems it very very common.

I was struck this week that life is short. I did something new today. I walked around London perfectly safely chatting to strangers. Born in London, places totally new to me

IncessantNameChanger · 17/09/2022 15:02

I think this outdid walking around New York

Your 18 year old has an excuse. His brain has years of development in cognitive reasoning still to go.

Decades old people do not get that excuse except in certain circumstances. Otherwise they are just enjoying derailing and being goady.

Finished it - it was amazing. 12 hours exactly - despite the fact that when I started the tracker was saying “do not come. 25 hours queue.”

MomwasCasual · 17/09/2022 11:53

Someone better let the organisers know to send that massive queue of English people home.

Sandra's in Tenerife right now, and the general consensus from 'Abroad' is that it's all a bit weird.

Time to break it up chaps, soz.

😁

We are in the queue now. Started at 9.05 at Southwark Park, currently just past Blackfriars Bridge. The atmosphere is amazing, I'm so glad we did it. We have travelled from South Wales. My 11 year old daughter is with us, she will be able to tell her children and grandchildren about when she did this.

I'm glad for you Hels

Shining glad to hear it, I knew it would be.

I've heard a few people stress that they want to celebrate her life and I get the sense it's doing that. That, and making people chuckle here, is good for me today as it's a bit of a down day for me today. Nothing like the mad Britishness of this to cheer me up!

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 17/09/2022 15:39

Glad you made it @Hels20

beccahamlet · 17/09/2022 15:42

@Hels20
Well done! I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that you're success has made me well up.

beccahamlet · 17/09/2022 15:42

your - not you're ( that's embarrassing too lol)

Hels20 · 17/09/2022 15:51

Aah - thanks everyone. Good luck @Shiningstarr - when I got to Westminster Snake it took me 2.5 hours to get through.

TheWeeDonkeyFella · 17/09/2022 15:52

Glad you made it @Hels. Good luck Shiningstarr - I think the atmosphere and camaraderie must help get so many through it (as well as the determination of paying respects of course).

The tracker inaccuracy is frustrating though.

Hels20 · 17/09/2022 15:54

From Security to inside was about 15 mins. But we got in just before they allowed the disability queue to go in. So might have been longer if we had had to wait for that queue to go through.

bit harsh, I'm only 46.

Hahahaha 😆

This morning I’ve managed this weekend’s deployment for one of the organisations involved from South Wales whilst ferrying my 11 year old daughter to her various activities. Been resisting going to London all week! 😂

Mooshamoo · 17/09/2022 12:20

I'm English myself. I just think it's totally bizarre.

But the whole royal family is totally bizarre. When you look at it, millions of people are happy to be reigned over by one person. Who gets that role by birth. She doesn't to anything to earn her place. She is not voted in. She is extremely wealthy. She has lots of palaces. And when she dies thousands of people will queue for days to see her coffin. People would rather keep going along with it, then see that the royal family actually abuse and manipulate them.

It is hard to admit that you have been an idiot for centuries, for fawning over this family.

It kind of reminds me of Jonestown the cult. I was watching a documentary about it. The leader abused the group all the time, yet they still called their leader "dad" and worshipped him.

One of the men in the documentwty said it was hard to leave the cult, because it was hard to admit to being a fool for so long.

It is easier to worship and fawn over the royal family, than to admit that we have been fools for decades and that they are actually abusing us. I know that. That is why people keep going along with it.

@Mooshamoo 🍹koolaid. Enjoy.

SpinCityBlues · 17/09/2022 16:49

I think there's a 'Queen and Country' aspect to it, and it's not simply about the monarch per se. A lot of the veterans and others made vows and have said prayers through the years to 'Queen and Country'. I think this is significant for a lot of people.

And I do also think a lot of people are acknowledging the end of an era. That doesn't necessarily bode well for Charles. It just means people are saying goodbye and thank you to Elizabeth II. She's not the last monarch but she could well be the last significant one and it all ends not with a bang but a whimper.

Hope you're home safely soon, @Hels20 That was impressive, given you had a leg wobble on there!

Hillsmakeyoustrong · 17/09/2022 17:09

I'm here now with my 5 year old twins. Debating whether my hubby takes the kids back to the Airbnb and I queue through the night...but if the tracker isnt inaccurate I don't know what to do!
