anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

I just saw him! He's good value when he does zoom interviews.

Why are some people so bothered by other people doing something that makes them happy? I don't get it! Its not something I would want to do personally but each to their own 🤷‍♀️

vera99 · 17/09/2022 10:21

This is now a pilgrimage isn't it having taken on semi-religious overtones of sacrifice, worship and loyal devotion?

I get that you find all this very annoying, but am I right I saying that you turned up into central London to have a look and get some fresh air?
Making the effort to go into packed central London to look at something you disapprove of seems pretty odd.
Did you stand there saying “why oh why?” In an anguished voice?

This is me .

MomwasCasual · 17/09/2022 11:53

Someone better let the organisers know to send that massive queue of English people home.

Sandra's in Tenerife right now, and the general consensus from 'Abroad' is that it's all a bit weird.

Time to break it up chaps, soz.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 11:59

It's like when you take something back to a shop that's rubbish and they say

"well nobody else has complained"As if that makes a blind bit of difference. And you'd say " oh i'll leave it then".

All those queuers clearly don't care what other people are thinking.

sunglassesonthetable · 17/09/2022 12:00

Howling.

SpinCityBlues · 17/09/2022 12:03

Rather than finding it weird, can observers not find it fascinating instead? Maybe shift the perspective a little?

There's huge scope for people watching, a bit of crowd psychology, having a nose at historic artefacts, whatever.

TeenDivided · 17/09/2022 12:04

I feel sorry for other countries who don't have a figure head who enough people would feel they want to turn up for a lying in state.
This is one reason why I like the monarchy.
We also do change of power very well, both at elections, changing prime ministers mid stream as well as monarchs.
We are so good at it can even change monarch and prime minister in the same week with barely a ripple.
(OK slightly tongue in cheek, but you get the gist.)

Im abroad at the momet. People are talking about the queue here. The general consensus is that English people are totally crazy to queue for 14 hours during the night, in the cold, to see the dead queen. That the level of fawning is absolutely bizarre.

Do you see that it is not normal? Its very weird

When the first McDonalds opened in Soviet Russia people queued upwards of 8 hours for it.

Some Americans leave their family Thanksgiving dinners to go line up overnight outside stores for Black Friday sales.

Some Americans also spend upwards of 12-14 hours standing still in Times Square in December to watch a ball drop.

People from all over the world wait hours to ride a rollercoaster, or to be at the front at a concert they already have tickets for, or to buy tickets for a concert or sporting event, or to see the Sistine Chapel or ride the London Eye or take a selfie with the Mona Lisa.

None of the above are once in a lifetime historic occurrences, but they are things people make an individual decision as to whether they are worth their time and energy, and that decision has absolutely fuck all to do with anyone else.

Yes. I’ve got absolutely no interest in the World Cup. Obviously if England won I’d be pleased, but I wouldn’t go to celebratory parties, or watch it on tv or go to London to watch the victory procession.
However, plenty of people are interested and that’s absolutely fine. I wouldn’t start sneering at them or looking down on the.

SpinCityBlues · 17/09/2022 12:10

Is that Justin Trudeau?

Mooshamoo · 17/09/2022 12:20

I'm English myself. I just think it's totally bizarre.

But the whole royal family is totally bizarre. When you look at it, millions of people are happy to be reigned over by one person. Who gets that role by birth. She doesn't to anything to earn her place. She is not voted in. She is extremely wealthy. She has lots of palaces. And when she dies thousands of people will queue for days to see her coffin. People would rather keep going along with it, then see that the royal family actually abuse and manipulate them.

It is hard to admit that you have been an idiot for centuries, for fawning over this family.

It kind of reminds me of Jonestown the cult. I was watching a documentary about it. The leader abused the group all the time, yet they still called their leader "dad" and worshipped him.

One of the men in the documentwty said it was hard to leave the cult, because it was hard to admit to being a fool for so long.

It is easier to worship and fawn over the royal family, than to admit that we have been fools for decades and that they are actually abusing us. I know that. That is why people keep going along with it.

SpinCityBlues · 17/09/2022 12:10

Is that Justin Trudeau?

Yes it was! With his wife. I'm mesmerized by the live stream, so it's exciting to see something
I'm sure they'll show it on the news.

Andante57 · 17/09/2022 12:31

Now’s your chance Mooshamoo!
Make a placard saying ‘Abolish the Royal Family’ and march up and down with it in front of the queue.
You might get some converts!
