anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

Tomorrow the 8 grandchildren will be holding vigil.

We thought Anne was channeling HMS Pinnafore's 'Ruler of the Queen's Navy' somewhat.

I said Nelson on another thread but I know what you mean!

I'm so glad this this bloody 'princes' stuff includes Anne properly now. I know the whole pageantry show is just that; but it's significant that the public feeling is that Anne should take her place despite the retrospective primogeniture rules.

I imagine the 24 hours estimate now includes both the queue for the queue and the "holding pen" which I have seen referred to...
This is getting rather surreal and although I have been rather tongue-in-cheek this far, I really hope no-one actually dies of excessive queueing.

That will be the peak British moment right there, dying while queing for a queue. Doesn't more British than that!

yessss!

Antarcticant · 16/09/2022 20:52

Well, this will certainly cement our international stereotyping as a nation that loves a queue.

Do we know what uniform Anne is wearing?

She holds the honorary title of Admiral, so some form of that I'd imagine.

The red hackle is very eye catching!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 16/09/2022 21:09

imagine if you went off sick from work and then were caught on camera!

Libre55 · 16/09/2022 21:29

For anyone thinking of joining the access queue, the ticket booth is closed until 12 pm tomorrow. We got up there around 7 and waited for a while but decided we couldn't wait for 15 hours for it to open. Pretty disgusting that they have not put it on the official gov website.

beccahamlet · 16/09/2022 21:39

That's so strange that it's not on the website.

vera99 · 16/09/2022 21:47

It's a nice way to say please go away. It's over.

'They could have conducted the ticketing system in a way that did not involve an enormous queue snaking through London.'
James O'Brien deems ‘The Establishment’s’ choice to cause enormous queues to enter Westminster Hall 'completely deliberate’.

It was a Life Guards uniform - Blues and Royals I think as she's their honorary Colonel

No William/Harry with the other royals?

I thought that was a bit odd - the only grandchildren not on the gallery watching

SpinCityBlues · 16/09/2022 22:08

Isn't that in case they all get all get blown up together or something?

Not sure his alternative would have feasibly worked and am sure his way would have been wide open to exploitation. And repeated website crashes.

Isthisexpected · 16/09/2022 22:13

I do agree with the point made about there literally being decades to plan this though.

Just as well they didn't do timed digital tickets. People would have been buying them up and reselling . So many people would have missed out.

The queue is beautifully simple in the way it works.

What would he have done instead then?

Iusedtobecarmen · 16/09/2022 22:23

I started at Southwark park yesterday. Pretty much 12 hours till the end. I was expecting 8 the.

I still think the queue is the best way to go. It shows that if people truly want to come to pay their respects then they will come. For some it's a last minute decision for many reasons such as logistics and personal availability / sacrifice. If a ticketing system was in place and someone decided they did want to come down on the day then they'd be unlikely to be able to do so if all tickets had gone. I love the queue because it shows personal dedication and determination. And it makes it all the more worth while when you get to the end. It's very moving

Iusedtobecarmen · 16/09/2022 22:21

Awful. But anyone buying this to cheat the system will be turned away as the colours change regularly & for the different queues

(I saw a couple being turned away by security for having snuck in without wristbands when I was there: they are VERY strict)

sunglassesonthetable · 16/09/2022 22:26

Tbh I like the massive 'queue snaking through London'. I think it's something special.

The only people I'm willing to hear criticism s from are people who've actually been in it.

It's all going to be over come Tuesday.
