anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

Looking at the delivery date it won't be for reuse but posterity. I noticed another was up for £1k Shock

That's crazy!! Is it ticket No 1 or something, there's so many people going it seems way overpriced!

sunglassesonthetable · 16/09/2022 22:29

And actually if people want to sell their wristbands so what? 🤷‍♀️

Maybe it will pay for travel or expenses whilst in London. Something like that.
Crack on.

BlooberryBiskits · 16/09/2022 22:30

I agree with @HansZimmerframe : queue is fair & it means people focus on if they actually WANT to go vs those who can ‘nabbing’ online slots or people who are not that fussed entering a ‘lottery’ like the Olympics

I’m very sad that the accessible queue which seemed to work SO well on the 1st day is now not serving those it is intended for, & that it may well be due to it being abused

Becks queuing like the rest of us has been v heart warming today

vera99 · 16/09/2022 22:30

Yes they seem to be different colours doesn't look like buying one would get you in.

Isthisexpected · 16/09/2022 22:30

I love the queue because it shows personal dedication and determination. And it makes it all the more worth while when you get to the end.

^ if you get that far. The people who can't afford a second, unexpected night in a hotel will miss out. It's a two tier system and those travelling from afar have to have a lot of money to do this. Many people who very much wanted to do this cannot afford to. My friend's booking for an accessible air bnb room for tomorrow night was cancelled tonight due to "maintenance issues". It has now been re-listed already at three times the price to profit from desperate people. She simply isn't well enough to manage travelling there and back in one day and cannot afford to stay over now.

MarshaBradyo · 16/09/2022 22:31

I have no issue with the queue being there either. Not everything has to be converted to issuing and ticket online systems

That's awful for your friend. Really bad actually.

Sadly that sort thing wouldn't have been avoided with a digital system. The usual people would have been buying them up and reselling. It would have been like trying to get a Glastonbury ticket .

It's always going to cost the out of towners more unfortunately. That airbnb sound the pits.

@BlooberryBiskits thank you! I came prepared in a coat and took a scarf and my turtle dove gloves with me! I've been queuing for almost 5 hours and heading towards The Globe soon. I'm on my own but with a really lovely group of people and having a lovely time. So far I'm pleased I came.

😁👌

BlooberryBiskits · 16/09/2022 22:41

@Isthisexpected : that is absolutely bloody awful for your friend, so sorry

defo complain to AirBNB with screen shots (which does not help you tonight)

Re actually getting in: I have one ‘last resort’ suggestion for those traveling with a person needing access & a time restriction.

This is: leave the person requiring the accessible route somewhere comfortable, but close to Westminster/Tate and queue yourself & get a wristband. Get through to Victoria Gardens & speak to Marshals there - this is a spot where people who joined the ‘regular’ queue but SHOULD have been in the access queue get ‘diverted’ by the marshals (saving about 3 more hours of standing). No guarantees but as a last resort this is what I would try and might allow the person you are traveling with to get access when the access queue is ‘closed’: I appreciate this would only work if there are enough of you to split up / the less mobile person is comfortable being left alone but if it helps anyone this might be an option

I'm on the train heading into Waterloo. Stupidly thought we'd walk to southwark park but sod that! What's the best tube station? Please and thanks

@Piccalino3 : glad to hear spirits are high! Hope you are enjoying the beautiful views of London by night

Sit when you can (when the Q grinds to a halt), grab a cuppa & have a wee before you get to Lambeth Bridge & hope you get through soon - realistically I think it will be early morning hours but it’s so worth it in the end

@IncessantNameChanger

go to Canada Water tube on the Jubilee line from Waterloo

Blimey - that’s an eye opener of how far ‘back’ the start is !!

Piccalino3 · 16/09/2022 22:52

@IncessantNameChanger I went to Bermondsey tube station and it's a short walk to Southwalk Park from there.

Antarcticant · 16/09/2022 22:54

These live posts from people joining The Queue are really interesting - wishing you all the best and hope you can keep warm enough tonight.

BlooberryBiskits · 16/09/2022 22:55

@IncessantNameChanger : I stand corrected, @Piccalino3’s suggestion of Bermondsey is the better choice for the start of the queue

IncessantNameChanger · 16/09/2022 22:56

Thanks @Piccalino3 is it obvious when you get to southeark where the queue starts? There's no what three words anymore on the queue tracker

Piccalino3 · 16/09/2022 23:00

@IncessantNameChanger I came out of the tube station and turned right, you just walk down and turn left at the traffic lights but it is obvious, lots of stewards, people and signs

SquashedFlyBiscuits · 16/09/2022 23:20

Going to get up at 2am and drive in to London. Expecting to arrive at the queue site around 5. Any tips?

QueSyrahSyrah · 16/09/2022 23:20

Agree with the physical queue being better and more inclusive (accessibility issues aside) than any digital alternative in the sense that it separates the 'I really want to do this' from the 'meh, I got a ticket with no effort so might as well' crowds, or worse the 'meh, I got a ticket with no effort and no cost so I'll just bin it' crowd.

I think this is the best time to do it (have been following what people have said vs my own experience)

You will have to ditch any liquids & food at the end so be prepared for that
Take food, drinks, something to put on floor to sit on, warm clothes & poss a few baby wipes (hand gel at all loos when I was there), otherwise travel light. Taking chairs etc totally pointless
take a portable phone charger if you have one
sit when you can to save your legs
make friends with those around you - definitely makes it go faster
save a bit of mental energy for after Lambeth bridge - that was the bit near the end I was a bit fed up of it

take a face mask!! Handy if the loos pong xx

Libre55 · 16/09/2022 23:34

At 9 o’clock we decided to leave the accessible queue. Although my DH was standing and I had to sit on a bench opposite, we could not wait 15 hours for the kiosk to open, then have to possibly wait another 4-5 hours to enter. Plus they were not allowing people to use the toilets in the Tate anymore, so it was a half mile trek to Lambeth Bridge. There was nowhere to get refreshments like there was for the main queue. If they had closed it for 6 hours like they had the main queue then we would have stayed. Apparently once they closed the main queue, the access queue quadrupled. Funny that…

BlooberryBiskits · 16/09/2022 23:34

@SquashedFlyBiscuits : I was able to keep my empty reusable coffee cup. A hot brew & sugar kept my spirits up : there are some places to get hot drinks on the way but none after Lambeth bridge when I was there (which is the last 2-4 hours)
