anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

@BlooberryBiskits looking at the live feed now, they have moved to 4 lines (2 on each side of the coffin). So it might start moving faster

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 04:45

Well, as you can tell from the updates it’s slow going at the zig zags!

in case it helps anyone: we got our wristbands around the London eye (so all of you would have to be there): plenty of benches/walls to sit before that point so easy to catch up with your group of you are with kids or just need a sit down!

Your group should also be altogether to cross over Lambeth Bridge & into the gardens (this is where wristbands get checked)

The zig zags are in 2 ‘sections’ : and they are just like airport check in. The mum & 10 year old just in front of us ducked out for a sit down in section 2 where there are benches & came back on the queue once we caught them up. I think that’s a good idea as it’s a good 90 min in that bit at least (see pic, it’s just a low wall but somewhere to sit at least)

I thought I’d overpacked with a blanket, hat & extra layers but I’ve needed them tbh even though it’s a dry & pleasant night

This is great news, thanks @Rainbowqueeen !

So many brain washed people waiting in the rain to see coffin of a rich lady. People have their priorities wrong

Honestly, it’s very strange

DysonSphere · 15/09/2022 05:42

Good to know you need to layer up if going in late evening @BlooberryBiskits hope you're almost in now.

@Rainbowqueeen I don't like the double queue, it hampers those stuck behind people in front, particularly if those in front stop to bow.

SunflowerOrange · 15/09/2022 05:56

I've just watched the guard change. It's fascinating. I couldn't stand at that long. Very strange!

The 4 lines are moving much faster than earlier today

How does everyone know about the little nod/kneel/bow people are doing? I wouldn't have known. Are they told to or just see everyone else doing it and copy?

begoniagal3 · 15/09/2022 06:04

Anyone know about the accessible queue? I’m 37 weeks pregnant with SPD and would like to pay my respects but can’t queue for six hours! Don’t want to take advantage but reckon I qualify as can’t stand long? I read it’s a timed entry?

garlictwist · 15/09/2022 06:09

I am not that fussed about the queen but I would probably go if I lived in/near London and the queue was shorter as it's quite an historic event.

As it is, the train fare is extortionate and I have a dodgy hip so cannot stand and shuffle for hours at a time.

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 06:28

I came out an hour ago, & was v fortunate to see the guards being changed (fascinating in itself plus gave me a little more time, but no one was being rushed)

long night but v v worth it

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 15/09/2022 06:39

Glad to hear it bb!!

Sandy89xx · 15/09/2022 06:49

Hoplessynic .... yes happily I'd do anything to see her again even just for a minute I'd be there I'd be there.

LostPropertyBox · 15/09/2022 06:56

When did they move from 2 lines to 4 lines of people in the hall? Tbh if I waited all that time and ended up in the back row I would be miffed!

WeAreTheHeroes · 15/09/2022 06:58

As you go in down steps it doesn't stop you seeing the coffin.

RhubarbCrumbled · 15/09/2022 07:04

I joined the queue about 10 minutes ago just before the Globe. It's moving reasonably well. It's still quite chilly by the river!
Good to know about the zig zag section. I'll definitely have a wee before it hit that bit!

There’s a kiosk b6 the Tate, go there they give you a ticket to come back at a later time and you go in. So kind of like a virtual queue. I believe you may still need to wait a few hours but not be standing in an actual queue.

It's very strange that people come on a thread about something they're not interested in, just to insult those people that are.

MiniCooperLover · 15/09/2022 07:16

Interestingly looking at the live feed, some people look bored as anything (probably the relief at being at the end I guess) and some look so over-awed they're almost afraid to look at the coffin. Watching the emotions on peoples faces is fascinating, but it's quite moving too.

@Quweenie - they just say ‘Airport style security’. But I fail to see what danger an apple or few chocolate digestives are going to be.

The general public are arseholes.

They will be eating in the room, dropping crumbs, leaving rubbish, making chomping noises.

Some might take it as an opportunity to throw food/bottles etc

It's just not appropriate.

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 01:09

How often do they change the guard? It certainly holds up the visitors.

Every 20 minutes I think

purfectpuss · 15/09/2022 07:31

Surely it would be better to give a people a wristband with an allocated time slot like they do in theme parks or museums and peop can go off and have fun elsewhere and then come back at their given time.

This! Always some on here that just have to say their opposing opinions for the sake of it. Just don’t go in the thread if you aren’t interested

Agree

Just listening to people in queue and one saying they’ve chatted to person next to them and become friends- a nicer human trait than just trying to make people feel bad just because it’s not for them

I agree. You can clearly see what the threads about from the title, why people click to insult others is beyond me.
