anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

its so nice to watch everybody just walking respectfully past, no talking and no taking photos!

I am on the queue and it has taken 2.30 the zig zag inside Victoria tower gardens and still did not reach the security. I was positive as from London bridge till here took 3 hours but it seems the longest is once you arrive to the gardens

Did you know the family?

TheEggChair · 15/09/2022 01:45

I've reposted the queue Checker posted earlier, it's nearly 3 miles long atm.

EmmaH2022 · 15/09/2022 01:49

Big up to the Tweeps calling it the Elizabeth Line.

Sofita hope it’s not too long. Hope that guard is okay too, poor chap.

Mada1985 · 15/09/2022 01:54

I don't understand why everyone's rushing now you have 3 more days to visit surly it will calm down in the next few days

SueDCreme · 15/09/2022 01:55

idonotmind · 14/09/2022 20:52

What if you're asleep? Is overtaking allowed?

It's a queue to see a coffin not Whacky Races

At the risk of sounding stupid… what’s the reason for this?

Security prob want a quick spritz /fag/put their face on to alleviate the boredom when they get a break

MissingNashville · 15/09/2022 02:13

There’s someone on tiktok walking in the opposite direction and filming the queue. He’s says he’s going to find the end. Lots of young kids, some of them crying. That’s sad, they should be in bed.

SpinCityBlues · 15/09/2022 02:13

There are some very young children walking past, just now. As in, a 3 year old, it looks like, and after him and his mum, another family with a couple of pre-teens.

BartyPags · 15/09/2022 02:22

I can see that live BBC have cut to exterior. Is everything ok?

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 02:23

We got to London Bridge at 8.30pm, joined the queue at 9 & currently v close to Westminster (the Palace Gardens zig zag bit)

Think will be less than an hour now

Queue is super well organised, loads of police, plenty of loos, some places for coffee & snacks (after an hour or 2, not loads)

No point taking chairs (there are benches/low walls of you need a few minutes off your feet)

Bring layers & food - but seems we have to throw away anything not eaten at the end

Ideally I would have come in the day but London at night is v peaceful/makes the time go faster

Not excited about making my way home to London outskirts at 3/4 in the morning though so if you’re coming at night maybe 10 or later would have you out at 5-6 with tubes running

BartyPags · 15/09/2022 02:24

Just refreshed all looks OK. People filing past as before.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 15/09/2022 02:25

I’m watching the live stream to! I do hope that guard was ok, poor thing he must have just been standing a little too long but it looked quite nasty! It’s oddly calming isn’t it? Dd was up being sick at 12 and I haven’t got to sleep so I am watching.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 15/09/2022 02:27

Cut to the exterior, is everything all right?

Twitter suggests cleaning. I'm amazed they're doing this 24/7, there must be some points where there should be a pause?

Yes on the cleaning- we’ve just been told that the queue stops 2-3am for cleaning which is why this last bit is taking so long

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 15/09/2022 02:55

We are back now

Quweenie · 15/09/2022 02:57

The guard probably fell due to locking his knees. When stood still for a long time like that, you mustn’t lock your knees as it restricts blood flow to the brain!
Very common when standing to attention.

Deckthewallswithpaintandplaydough · 15/09/2022 03:08

@Quweenie makes sense, happened to dmil once at a wedding

Motorina · 15/09/2022 03:30

There’s a particular type of jaw fracture called a guardsman’s fracture, because it happens when you pass out from standing and land on your chin.

I wonder if the shift changes aren’t so much about giving people a break, but as allowing as many soldiers as possible to participate? Although there are only 32 Yeoman Warders, so they must be doing multiple shifts a day.

I agree it’s compelling watching.

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 03:49

Still queueing 😔 The zig zag bit right outside Westminster Hall seems to take ages

it might be worth taking something to sit on for this bit (we had a picnic blanket)

DysonSphere · 15/09/2022 04:19

Where are you now @BlooberryBiskits

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 04:21

And also - the portaloos right before Westminster Hall are not the most pleasant

Use the (much nicer) ones before Lambeth Bridge & DON’T drink anything after if you can manage

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 04:25

DysonSphere · 15/09/2022 04:19

About 25 zig zaggy rows before the end of the queue … hoping it won’t be too long now

i was told we’d be ‘3 hours or so’ at 9pm, & 30 min to an hour 2 hours ago: i think the security people don’t really know what speed the queue is going

on the plus side morale is good & people are v friendly : a lady queuing with is bought a massive tub of chocs to share & give to police/security which was a nice touch

BlooberryBiskits · 15/09/2022 04:32

This is what I mean by the zig zag bit in case it helps anyone - it’s I think called the Palace Gardens (?) and is directly in front of Westminster Hall on the North side of the river

anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?
