anyone queuing to see the coffin in London atm?

I am wondering how long the queue is and how the organisation is working out. Are there enough toilets? Is it true that the wristband allows you to leave and come back?

lostproperty the rules state that chairs are not allowed

Weird about make up etc but it depends which security line you get into. I had a bottle of very expensive perfume with me and put it my pocket to avoid it being confiscated. The security lady didnt ask any questions about make up.

A lady behind me in the queue had hand cream and hand gel taken off her. Was about to lose lipstick but broke into tears because of feeling nervous and was let go through

The police at each corner aren't changed anywhere near as often are they. I know their uniform isn't as hot or heavy but it's still hard work to stand stock still like that for an hour.

Jellykat · 15/09/2022 00:46

I've decided they must have a secret clock up the stairs where stick tap man is.. otherwise they wouldnt know when to do their stuff..

How do you get on this livefeed please 🙂

Or BBC Parliament (Sky channel 504 - don't know about other providers.)

The excitement of a queue to see the Queen. I think we have reached peak British!

I honestly don’t know if to admire them or think they’re mad!

Me and my partner were chatting about it and amazed at some of the people queuing. Much older than us, some not looking in the best health. We decided that we must be complete snowflakes or just lazy or undetermined or unimpressed by everyone because there is no one we would queue to see for that long, dead or alive.

30 hours is so long. I hope it doesn’t get that long for anyone who is going. 🤞

ZealAndArdour · 15/09/2022 00:57

Weird how they’ve recruited all these Beefeaters who all appear to be about 5’8 with a BMI of around 34 😂

Mydoghealsmyheart · 15/09/2022 00:58

You’re right FromDespairToHere the police aren’t being changed as often. Speaking from experience of a relative who’s a police officer, those police tunics are made from thick material. I’m just on tenterhooks now willing everyone to stay upright!

Sad

Sofita90 · 15/09/2022 01:01

I am on the queue and it has taken 2.30 the zig zag inside Victoria tower gardens and still did not reach the security. I was positive as from London bridge till here took 3 hours but it seems the longest is once you arrive to the gardens

YoullHaveACupoTayAhGwan · 15/09/2022 01:01

Just got back home from the LIS: joined queue at 4pm at London Bridge after seeing the procession, we very quickly moved along to wait at the South Bank but then again got quickly moved all the way along and over Lambeth Bridge to the Palace Green area: from there it took 3hours zigzagging across the Green and through security. Reached the Hall at 10:15pm.
Security seemed rather hit and miss, fold up chair taken off a woman in front of me but another in the queue got to keep hers.
Take as little as poss, but enough food for a few hours wait and some water. You are not allowed to carry any food or liquids in - no hand gel, toothpaste etc.

weddingDecliner · 15/09/2022 01:02

Anyone joined queue in last hour and know where the end is?

YoullHaveACupoTayAhGwan · 15/09/2022 01:04

Also spoke to a policeman on duty after the security tent checks: those on duty do a 12 hour shift (with breaks). They must have very strong legs indeed!

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 01:09

How often do they change the guard? It certainly holds up the visitors.

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 01:11

Some people are making a meal out of bowing and then standing there holding up the queue, so selfish, they should bow then go, not hang around.

BartyPags · 15/09/2022 01:11

I didn’t realise about the live feed. Thank you for mentioning the link. it’s actually really peaceful and respectful feeling to watch it as well. The very gentle audio sounds make it feel real. I have been feeling sad about not being able to go.

I do wish all of the people standing guard had some carpet around them rather than just stone flags. Fainting is a big risk for anyone who must stand up completely still. Sympathies to the person who fainted or fell.

Wishing everyone well who is going along to pay their respects, or is volunteering or working on this lying in state. Flowers.

BartyPags · 15/09/2022 01:15

Kentucky if that was recently that you saw this, they hold people back inside the hall while they change the guards over. Could that have been it? The queue has been filing past very fairly and very respectfully of other people.

ThisUserNameIsAvailableOk · 15/09/2022 01:21

"Oh this is good to know! So no powder compacts or lipsticks? Surely every woman must have these in her bag though??

I was thinking about bringing a small collapsable stool and hoping I could put it in the bag check? Or leave it somewhere and get it? Do you know if that's possible?"

Every woman has a powder and lipstick?! Are you from 1958?

And as for leaving your collapsible stool at "bag check". Jesus wept, it's not Alton Towers. Embarrassing

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 15/09/2022 01:22

KentuckyDerbyandJoan · 15/09/2022 01:09

Every 20 minutes but I was thinking that and one of them fainted earlier so I think changing them regularly is the safest way.

Did it this evening
Do not take make up, hand cream, eye drops, lighters or perfume with you. These all were among the items which were confiscated as prohibited during the security check

At the risk of sounding stupid… what’s the reason for this?

YoullHaveACupoTayAhGwan · 15/09/2022 01:27

@Quweenie - they just say ‘Airport style security’. But I fail to see what danger an apple or few chocolate digestives are going to be.

toomuchlaundry · 15/09/2022 01:28

I guess they don’t want people eating as they walk past

OnTheRoll · 15/09/2022 01:29

Quweenie you got me 🤷‍♀️

From Wednesday 14 September, Her Majesty will lie in state at Westminster Hall for five days with a substantial number of people anticipated to pay their respects. The South Bank will play an important part in the queue management, and the BFI will be supporting this.

BFI Southbank will be open 24 hours a day from today until 06:00 on Monday 19 September. Our coffee bar and restaurant will be open throughout, and our toilet facilities will be available via The Riverfront entrance for the comfort of those queuing. We’ll also be screening a selection of films featuring Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II along South Bank by Waterloo Bridge.

I saw this thread and got back up to watch. I just had no idea what it entailed. So very sad. I think ds wants to go, he's 14 se we could in theory go after school.

He gets dla for dyspraxia so we might look into the mobility queue. I'm not sure he could do six hours standing up.

It's just so sad.when anyone I know dies it's just so sanitised. This feels different. I guess it's bringing up represed grief. When my dear friends mum died I had to walk off to hide my tears. No need to do that now. It's not the same of course but nether the less
