Prince Edward

There’re threads about Charles, Andrew and Anne, but none about Edward. Why is that? He was in his older siblings shadow, no heir like Charles, no Olimpian like Anne and no dashing was hero like Andrew. Seen as a joke with his tv programs failure. Yet he came up as the most stable out of Queen’s children. The only one, who manage to create happy marriage, stayed away from
scandals, he did his service without holding grunge against his lower royal position. I like his wife Sophie too. I think they both deserve more credit that is given to them.

I'm sure Charles would rather be up at 5am milking cows than catching yet another flight to yet another meeting designed to ensure the inclusion of all parts of the UK, and future stability of the realm

Of course he would . . . 🙄- he can't even dress himself without the assistance of two valets.

I just googled re Charles ad his valets; allegedly he has 3 and they iron his shoelaces. (source, the online Reader's Digest)

AuxArmesCitoyens · 14/09/2022 20:29

that happened about 300 years ago, when he had a broken arm

I'd like to see some proof of that.

Nor did Charles do any actual military service, their military roles/ ranks are as symbolic figureheads . Andrew was about to be granted the title of Admiral as a 60 th birthday present BE ( before Epstein). Apparently he had already been measured up for the outfit…….

Charles actually served for five years in the RAF and then the Navy

Ooops! I see many posters got there before me Blush

I prefer Edward to many of the other wasters. Lady Louise was allegedly the Queen’s favourite grandchild due to her kind nature and mutual love of horses.

Dinoteeth · 14/09/2022 20:47

Allegedly how can anyone say who the Queens favourite child or grandchild was really does anyone really believe
a, she had favourites, or b, divulged that information?

Some of the posts on here are so dumb. Everything we know about the RF is via the media. Unless you’re a courtier? 🙄

Finally a sensible voice. There are an inordinate number of posters on RF threads who lack critical thinking.

I think Louise was close to The Duke of Edinburgh due to their love of carriage riding. I loved her tribute to him at his funeral.

Where would Andrew have been hiding in the Falklands, if he was on a ship/helicopter surely he was at risk of being hit?

ChagSameachDoreen · 15/09/2022 06:56

That's a lavender marriage if ever I saw one.

So do you think they see other people?

Seems non of the queens Childress marriages lasted. Quite out for all 4 siblings to be divorced? Must be to do with the pressures / money??

Yesterday my dd12 asked what prince Andrew did.

Charles - first marriage was more or less an arranged marriage of convience. second marriage is doing OK.
Ann - no clue about her first marriage, but second one is going good, he married her not the accompanying job.
Andrew - they are divorced in name only, they have an arrangement that suits, living in the same house, she's out the limelight.
Edward - they had the benefit of seeing the mistakes of his older siblings and less pressure put on them.

If that was the case why did Edward ever need to get married ?
He was the fourth child he was never going to be king, he could have lived as a "Bachelor " .

what did prince michael of kent do wrong?
i have only found out they retired this year

I agree - we have no way of knowing about the sexuality of either of them (and TBH, why would we want to?). However I have known many "camp" men who were heterosexual (and very masculine men who were gay), and "masculine" women who were also heterosexual (and vice versa).

And even if you are right, if the arrangement suits them, then there's nothing wrong with that. Their relationship, their business.

Grow old maybe - google says he's 80.

He married the woman he loved- a non British divorcee who was a bit gobby and had a dodgy family background.

The great British public likes to have one per generation to hate upon.

Wallace Simpson
Princess Michael of Kent
Meghan Markle

We could open a book to see which of the next generation it will be.

That is ridiculous! If it's based on the putting the toothpaste on his toothbrush story - that happened about 300 years ago, when he had a broken arm.

I did sympathise. When I broke my right arm I was quite open about it and when people asked how I was doing I'd say, "I can't even get my own knickers on." Slight exaggeration it was my tights I couldn't get on and toast was an absolute bugger as it would skate all round the worktop as I tried to butter it.

3 are divorced, Edward isn't.

Exactly what I asked. It doesn't make any sense does it. Perhaps alot of men who served out there resented the fuss that was made about him.

He’s had a few moments in his time.

He lost his place in the succession for many years because he married a Catholic (who was also divorced).

There was drama when it came out that they were lying a tiny amount for their apartment at Kensington Palace.

He’s had some dodgy business dealings. Most recently with Russian connections.

His wife was very unpopular in many quarters and has the nickname “Princess Pushy”. She was accused of being racist in a restaurant or hotel a fair while ago and then was the one that wore the blackamoor brooch to Meghan’s first Christmas lunch at Buckingham Palace.

MrsMontyD · 15/09/2022 10:21

I think Edward and Sophie will fill the role the Dukes of Gloucester and Kent and their wives have filled (both now in their 80s) along with Anne and her husband They're senior Royals with enough stature to open hospitals, patron big charities etc.

Charles might want to slim things down but there's still a lot of ground to cover and no Andrew or Harry pulling their weight.

antelopevalley · 15/09/2022 10:22

He was at risk. But normally you would go with your unit and move out of less risky to more risky situations and back again. We know Harry complained that he was not allowed to go with his unit into the more risky situations. I assume it was the same with Andrew.

Edward and Sophie will also be the bridge for William with Edward being 15 years younger than Charles.

They would have been expecting Andrew, Meghan and Harry to cover at least 900 engagements a year so they’re going to have to rely on Edward and Sophie building their calendars even more.
