What could Center Parcs actually do if people refuse to leave?

I've seen on the news that Center Parcs has announced that it will be closing on Monday for the funeral and anyone on a break will need to leave for that evening and find alternative accommodation for the night, affecting people who have got Friday to Friday breaks.

It doesn't affect me personally but I'm curious. What could Center Parcs actually do if people simply refuse to leave? I'm not sure the police would get involved as it could be considered a civil trespass matter potentially?

This is getting ridiculous now.

The amount of emails in my inbox from organisations telling me they're closing as a mark of respect and to 'allow staff to mourn with their families'. Really? Are we all supposed to be weeping and wailing and gnashing our teeth at the loss of a woman none of us actually knew?

I feel like I've gone back in time to the nineteenth century. It's as if we're all expected to put on black veils and sit indoors with the blinds shut.

The Queen was a very practical no nonsense person. I think she'd be horrified at the fact that people's lives are being so inconvenienced in her name.

Centre Parcs are going to lose a lot of custom over this. It's pure stupidity.

Exactly. The whole country is mourning a woman most never met yet on another thread people are saying King Charles is awful for being annoyed over a leaky pen.

It's HIS mother.

He can't be upset (he didn't even know the date) we should mourn and big companies think people can just suddenly magic another a accommodation for 24 hours nearby when I'm also thinking they didn't consider if they want to shut them other facilities maybe also.

This is bonkers.

And I'm not even against the RF or having a monarchy.

StaunchMomma · 13/09/2022 21:44

Papers are saying they've relented and visitors can stay - not sure if those who were meant to check in on Monday will get to, though.

SunscreenCentral · 13/09/2022 21:45

It's what HMQEII would have wanted.

Otherwise she'd have said so, frankly.

Will people with zero imagination, taste or research skills booking these overpriced, trashy, identikit holidays stuck in a park with 1000s bland dull other families all staying in the same bland lodges doing the same unimaginative activities finally realise what a piece of crap Centre Parcs are??!

Why do some people on this site get so rude about peoples choice of holiday destination?
Center Parcs is not everyone’s cup of tea, that’s perfectly acceptable to say you find it dull and boring as a place and not your idea of fun.
If you hate it there, good for you. Don’t go.

Calling people who choose to go there for a break dull and unimaginative and saying they have no taste or research skills. Wow. Clearly you’re a bitter person. How bloody rude. Just because someone enjoys a break at CP doesn’t mean that they don’t ever go anywhere else. I’ve never had a bad experience with them but would be pissed off at this closure. I know how they work and do as I wish. I’ve been to CP about 20 times. I’ve also been to 15 states in America, Canada, 12 European countries, Jordan, Egypt, China, South Africa and the UAE. CP for me is an easy break to cram the family and friends of different ages into and is a simple comfort when you want nostalgia.

There’s a difference between discussing a company and location and insulting people. Clearly you don’t know that, maybe time to learn?

Beachbabe1 · 13/09/2022 21:50

My friend works there as a cleaner and she still has to work on Monday!!!! They can wear black and watch the funeral on tv whilst they clean!!! The cheek of it!!

I think they are going to have a massive backlash if they don't reverse their decision
Who is going to make any future bookings with them and risk this again ?

Well I don't think the queen can die again?Grin

NoodleSnow · 13/09/2022 17:50

Here’s my plan:
Ask guests leaving Monday to leave early by one hour.
Ask guests arriving Monday to check in 1-2 hours late.
Close activities for guests on Monday.
Friday-Friday guests can stay on site.
Check activity staff to see who is willing to work and offer a limited number of group activities for children of essential staff only, to enable them to work.
Offer cleaning staff the choice of their normal shift or splitting their hours before and after the funeral with time off in the middle to watch on a tv on site.

It’s asking everyone to make a small compromise in the circumstances without scuppering entire holidays for anyone.

See now that's sensible.

I can only imagine how pissed off their customers are going to be. Surely, given the age of most of their staff they can find enough people to work if they pay enough? They can close activities and restaurants 10-4

Hohofortherobbers · 13/09/2022 21:55

If I was due to go I would be cancelling and expecting a refund as they were not providing the service I had paid for, if they quibbled I would do a section 75 and claim the full amount from my credit card or a charge back on my debit card. Let's see how they appreciate every booking being cancelled and refunded....not just one days profit lost.

That is appalling and makes me wonder why they need to close the sites down then? Not sure what the next excuse is going to be!

Years ago I worked at Elveden CP.....after seeing what goes on behind the scenes you couldn't pay me to holiday there.

Please elaborate

Well said.

@DollyParton2 when you’ve got kids and want a convenient holiday with lots of extra activities it’s the perfect location. I’ve also had many holidays abroad - Caribbean and America and many European cities to name a few - is that good enough for you.

Yes please do…CP charge the earth, though convenient when you’ve got little ones but would to be persuaded to stay elsewhere after this little stint!

NeckFanInSoftPlay · 13/09/2022 22:18

LIKE SHITE would we be leaving 👍🏻

OnTheRunWithMannyMontana · 13/09/2022 22:19

That's absolutely outrageous.

Centre Parc have done A U turn

Center Parcs backtracks on Queen's funeral closure plans www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-62893476

uncomfortablydumb53 · 13/09/2022 22:26

Legally I don't think they have a leg to stand on.
Once you've booked and paid you enter into a contract with them
Obviously no one knew the queen would pass away on Thursday but I think it's outrageous
Hotels in the areas are likely to be booked or closed so personally I'd refuse to leave

SpoonyMcFace · 13/09/2022 22:27

It's not much of a U turn.

They have just said that people staying on seven night breaks don't have to leave the site.

TwoMonthsOff · 13/09/2022 22:27

FarmerRefuted · 13/09/2022 17:16

Reason 765 why Centre Parcs is shite.

Haha 😂add a few zeros though
PP hit nail on head they don’t want to pay the staff BH rates

Partato · 13/09/2022 22:29

Makes sense. Absolutely crazy that anyone thought telling people to leave midway through their holiday would be a acceptable.

Still a huge shame for people due to arrive or leave on Monday missing out on a day.

Katela18 · 13/09/2022 22:32

Suddenly very glad we booked Haven for next week instead. We are being able to check in as normal.

No need for rude comments about CP users. It's a nice easy holiday if you want to spend time outdoors and relaxing and don't like beach holidays.
