What could Center Parcs actually do if people refuse to leave?

I've seen on the news that Center Parcs has announced that it will be closing on Monday for the funeral and anyone on a break will need to leave for that evening and find alternative accommodation for the night, affecting people who have got Friday to Friday breaks.

It doesn't affect me personally but I'm curious. What could Center Parcs actually do if people simply refuse to leave? I'm not sure the police would get involved as it could be considered a civil trespass matter potentially?

That is terrible, and just plain stupid! Kicking out paid guests all day/night for the sake of a 2 hour televised funeral!? Surely a backtrack coming...

washingbasketqueen · 13/09/2022 17:39

Hopefully they backtrack. Being reported on major broadcasters. It's bonkers!

buckeejit · 13/09/2022 17:39

Interested to see how this will play out. How ridiculous!

It's ridiculous, we're booked to go Monday! We now can't check in until Tuesday 4pm and out by Friday 10am so effectively only have two day holiday 😂😂 I don't understand why they haven't let people in on Monday as normal but shut the restaurants and activities if they really felt necessary

I’m wondering whether they thought the cleaning staff would simply not show up for the change over on Monday. In addition to those that want to watch the funeral, many will be parents with school age kids and no child care lined up.
Even so, it still seems nuts not to let the Friday-Friday people stay, with restaurants and pool etc closed if they decide that’s appropriate.

Ihatethenewlook · 13/09/2022 17:37

This. Surely they mean that the accommodation is open but the facilities will be shut?

There's a woman on their Facebook page that has 5 lodges booked as part of their 7 day, wider family holiday. They've been told to vacate for 24 hours even though they are several hours from home and have young children and dogs as part of their group.

PiffleWiffleWoozle · 13/09/2022 17:43

That’s ridiculous.

If most hotels/accommodation aren’t closing why is CP?

If they are mostly closing where the hell are people supposed to stay for just one night of their holidays?

Rantypanties · 13/09/2022 17:43

They’re open at Christmas so why suddenly respectful of their employees wanting time off to watch a funeral? It’s absolutely ridiculous and I really hope the negative PR makes them change their minds!

abovedecknotbelow · 13/09/2022 17:45

Confirming why I don't like center parcs. What are Butlins doing?

abovedecknotbelow · 13/09/2022 17:47

Google suggests Butlins are open. I'd be mightily pissed off if I was at CP and had to find somewhere else for a night.

JoeyThePrawn · 13/09/2022 17:48

I'm placing my bets that they apologise and say it was a misunderstanding
Mega backtracking

AclowncalledAlice · 13/09/2022 17:48

I'm not sure they can do anything unless it's in the T&Cs. If they want guests to vacate then it's surely up to them to find suitable alternative accommodation as it is their decision to disrupt the bookings. I could be (and probably am) wrong though.

noclothesinbed · 13/09/2022 17:49

They would call their on site security team and remove you

NoodleSnow · 13/09/2022 17:50

Here’s my plan:
Ask guests leaving Monday to leave early by one hour.
Ask guests arriving Monday to check in 1-2 hours late.
Close activities for guests on Monday.
Friday-Friday guests can stay on site.
Check activity staff to see who is willing to work and offer a limited number of group activities for children of essential staff only, to enable them to work.
Offer cleaning staff the choice of their normal shift or splitting their hours before and after the funeral with time off in the middle to watch on a tv on site.

It’s asking everyone to make a small compromise in the circumstances without scuppering entire holidays for anyone.

ILoveAllRainbowsx · 13/09/2022 17:53

Many police from Beds will be in London, so I doubt they would even be able to get there.

Partato · 13/09/2022 17:57

I think Center parcs have made a big mistake with this.

It would be annoying to have your holiday shortened by a day at the start, but at least they get 30% refund for that....

The people who have Monday as their last day are getting no money back and lose a whole day at Center parcs, which doesn't seem fair!

Asking people to leave and get different accommodation for one night in the middle of their holiday is total madness!

Blomonge · 13/09/2022 17:57

I would just say no. Where do they expect people to go for 24 hours? They aren’t going to go all the way home so where will they go?

woodhill · 13/09/2022 17:58

I think it's pretty awful

Sillystripytail · 13/09/2022 18:01

So if you refuse to leave your lodge, are they going to physically drag you out? Doubtful. They're idiots and I bet they will backtrack and say that guests already there on Monday can stay but no facilities.

Jackiebrambles · 13/09/2022 18:02

Surely a back track is coming, they are off their heads with this.

moonypadfootprongs · 13/09/2022 18:03

I'm wondering if they are back tracking they are no longer on the list of closed businesses on the BBC news website

moonypadfootprongs · 13/09/2022 18:05

Especially now Butlins have announced they will remain open but with some arrival time changes.

ChagSameachDoreen · 13/09/2022 18:06

Utter madness.

JudgeRindersMinder · 13/09/2022 18:11

I think their decision is bonkers, but their twitter feed just now is good!

I give you..

“Good luck removing guests from the parks. You've trained them in archery, shooting, swimming, canoeing and swinging through the trees like apes. You've basically got 5 village-loads of ninjas to clear out.”

abovedecknotbelow · 13/09/2022 17:45

Confirming why I don't like center parcs. What are Butlins doing?

Butlins confirmed they are staying open and will be airing the funeral on big screens for everyone to view. Seems like a sensible option.

YoSofi · 13/09/2022 18:16

I posted on the other thread but I can assure you, after having worked on village and in their head office for many years they do not give a shit about their staff.

Security staff can’t physically remove you, so what will they do? I definitely would not be leaving.
