What could Center Parcs actually do if people refuse to leave?

I've seen on the news that Center Parcs has announced that it will be closing on Monday for the funeral and anyone on a break will need to leave for that evening and find alternative accommodation for the night, affecting people who have got Friday to Friday breaks.

It doesn't affect me personally but I'm curious. What could Center Parcs actually do if people simply refuse to leave? I'm not sure the police would get involved as it could be considered a civil trespass matter potentially?

That decision is fucking batshit and if they follow through with that and don’t back track they deserve to go under.

This whole mourning thing is absurd and is only making me even more staunchly republican. Make Elizabeth the last.

HPFA · 13/09/2022 19:18

You can't even imagine the level of idiocy it took to come up with this.

Why not just close the pool/restaurants etc for the time of the funeral?

JustBkind · 13/09/2022 19:18

fairgame84 · 13/09/2022 17:20

I don't understand why they aren't happy to shut down the facilities and allow guests to stay in their lodges.
Asking them to leave for one night and then come back is unreasonable.

This.

I was wondering which company would make a f up of this and CentreParcs wins 👏

They have now back tracked on the 7day rule. You can stay on site now on Monday if you booked 7days

myusernamewastakenbyme · 13/09/2022 19:24

Years ago I worked at Elveden CP.....after seeing what goes on behind the scenes you couldn't pay me to holiday there.

In a way even worse for the Monday arrivals now. So CP won’t be shut but some people just won’t be allowed in even though they’ve already paid.

Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 19:25

What about those arriving Monday, have they back tracked on that? Still seems unfair to expect people to cut their holidays short when their check in time is 4pm on Tuesday! We are going to lose 2 days of our holiday :(

itsgettingweird · 13/09/2022 19:25

Daisy95 · 13/09/2022 17:26

It's ridiculous, we're booked to go Monday! We now can't check in until Tuesday 4pm and out by Friday 10am so effectively only have two day holiday 😂😂 I don't understand why they haven't let people in on Monday as normal but shut the restaurants and activities if they really felt necessary

Yes I was wondering why they didn't just close facilities on-site - although that still seems unfair.

But at least all accommodation other than a few hotel rooms are self catering so people can still eat and drink and sleep onsite.

They have so many guests where do they expect them to go to? They surely don't think any other hotels nearby etc will be open or they wouldn't be closing themselves?

Can you come in to the site from 10am Tuesday?

Calmdown14 · 13/09/2022 19:30

It's nuts.

Fair enough they will be short on cleaning staff.

They could have offered the 30 per cent off to anyone wishing to delay to Tuesday (cut down numbers a bit as some won't want to miss the funeral or would be glad to save something)

Moved the check in time to 5-6pm

Closed everything else to free up staff to support the check in and cleaning process

Paid staff working an enhanced rate (can't be more expensive than all this)

Blueblell · 13/09/2022 19:32

The Queen, who received the new prime minister two days before her death, would be very pleased to see centre parcs downing tools for the day.

Do tell! I went there Xmas 2016 and went back this summer for a weekend.

Back next summer for a full week.

We love it there as flat and ds has mobility problems.

I’ve read they have to be offsite until 4pm not all night but that’s still ridiculous.

they have to be offsite from 10am monday until 4pm tuesday... thats all night.

I think their decision is bonkers, but their twitter feed just now is good!

I give you..

“Good luck removing guests from the parks. You've trained them in archery, shooting, swimming, canoeing and swinging through the trees like apes. You've basically got 5 village-loads of ninjas to clear out.”

😂lol true

I haven’t been since before covid. There was WiFi in the exec lodges (which I’ve stayed in on occasion) but there wasn’t in the standard lodges which I actually preferred because more wildlife. But yeah hopefully they have WiFi all over the place now!

Wifi was excellent when we were there in the summer - was good enough for me to do a Teams job interview over (and get the job)

We've got a booking for near Christmas but won't be rebooking after that unless they backtrack on this because it's horrendous behaviour on CP part.

ifonly4 · 13/09/2022 19:35

I'd totally understand if all facilities where closed or it was a late night check in, so staff can have a few hours off to watch funeral or have time for contemplation, but there is a limit. People already staying in accommodation aren't doing any harm - fair enough they'd have to accept if something broke down, there'd be a delay.

I think I'd be tempted to stay in accommodation. Most people would be upset if staff where trying to get you out when you're trying to watch the funeral.

No update on fb or twitter that I can see.

Can you come in to the site from 10am Tuesday?

We can but have 3 babies in our party and activities booked. It’s hard enough with the check in at 4pm on a Monday but means we will have nowhere to store any belongings and all the equipment that comes with young children.. plus we will miss out on a night of settling in and essentially really only be able to start to relax on the Wednesday knowing all the things we need wil be in our lodge and not the car. Just seems unfair.

I’m sorry you’ve been effected but I believe there does need to be some compromise though. I do understand why they’ve cancelled Monday check ins, with limited cleaning staff etc it’ll be a logistical nightmare and near impossible to get rooms cleaned etc. But I think you should be able to access the facilities until you can check in / access the room on Tuesday though. Can you? They should also offer a refund for the missed day(s) and the massive stress it’s causing people.
