What could Center Parcs actually do if people refuse to leave?

I've seen on the news that Center Parcs has announced that it will be closing on Monday for the funeral and anyone on a break will need to leave for that evening and find alternative accommodation for the night, affecting people who have got Friday to Friday breaks.

It doesn't affect me personally but I'm curious. What could Center Parcs actually do if people simply refuse to leave? I'm not sure the police would get involved as it could be considered a civil trespass matter potentially?

Years ago I worked at Elveden CP.....after seeing what goes on behind the scenes you couldn't pay me to holiday there.

Please tell us. I was hospitalised after visiting Elveden CP with such bad vomiting and diarrhoea that I genuinely thought I'd die. Was 20 years ago.

I’m sorry you’ve been effected but I believe there does need to be some compromise though. I do understand why they’ve cancelled Monday check ins, with limited cleaning staff etc it’ll be a logistical nightmare and near impossible to get rooms cleaned etc. But I think you should be able to access the facilities until you can check in / access the room on Tuesday though. Can you? They should also offer a refund for the missed day(s) and the massive stress it’s causing people.

We were fully expecting for there to be limited facilities and no activities but with 3 very young children were really hoping to arrive Monday late afternoon and settle in so that we could enjoy a full day of activities on the Tuesday. Yes we can access from 10am but need to factor in travel etc and naps for the kids, plus food shop and so really we are losing a day on Tuesday too as don’t have access to the lodge until 4pm.. so what was a short 4 day break is now a 3 day break. We have to be out of lodges by 10am Friday so really only have weds and Thursday as a full day.

I think they are going to have a massive backlash if they don't reverse their decision
Who is going to make any future bookings with them and risk this again ?

Not sure the queen / king is going to die on a regular basis!

Oysterbabe · 13/09/2022 19:44

Mr Centre Parcs heard that the schools were closed and was apoplectic with rage that they have missed the chance to charge 18 squillion quid so closed the whole thing in a strop.

Dexionmagic · 13/09/2022 19:45

noclothesinbed · 13/09/2022 17:49

They would call their on site security team and remove you

What if the security staff want to watch the funeral?

mam0918 · 13/09/2022 19:46

what they need to do:

  • allow monday guest to stay (obviously)
  • allow monday guests who have nowhere to go to check in (by law they can not make people who have travelled homeless, even in lockdown hotels couldn't do that)
  • refund monday guests 1 night if they do not check in (+ logically and incentives like freebies if the actually want to encourage people who dont need to travel not to check in)
  • refund all guest for the time the facilities that they are contracted to provide are out of use (so 14 hours for monday leavers and 30 hours for monday and tuesday guests)

If they refused to allow mondays travelled guest to stay they legally as a holiday provider its should be their job to secure another place for them to stay.

Its going to cost them a FORTUNE and legally they dont have a single leg to stand on once the lawsuits start rolling in.

Honestly this is probably a huge part of why they have done this, it likely has nothing to do with staff or the bank holiday and everything to do with the fact they didnt get in fast enough to wack all their prices up.

Many places cancel booking when they realise they could have charged more but its illegal to do so.

Housebytheseanc · 13/09/2022 19:50

They are offering 30% off for those now having to arrive Tuesday but with check in at 4pm it’s still 2 days shaved off a holiday.

For those that have a way to travel with young kids it’s just not worth the hassle for 2 full days when it should have been 4 full days…

sunnydaytoday0 · 13/09/2022 19:52

I've no idea how accurate it is, but the BBC's International Business Correspondent has tweeted this:

"I understand that Center Parcs is reviewing the situation and will probably allow people on 1 week stays to remain in its resorts from Monday into Tuesday after all, though without access to restaurants, pools etc."

Vermillio · 13/09/2022 19:56

What a clusterfuck!

I understand that some people don’t have childcare and therefore can’t come to work. Surely you work around it? Offer other staff ££ ?

Dexionmagic · 13/09/2022 19:57

Not sure which batshit mark of respect takes the prize?

Morrisons who turned off the self service tills’ bleeps - causing delays.
OR
Centre Parcs sending people home for the day?

They’d be far better putting in some big screens to show the funeral and stopping activities/closing bars whilst the service is on.

As it is they look fools with egg encrusted faces.

Don't be a dick
If a national tragedy happens again , seriously you can't be that dense

sqirrelfriends · 13/09/2022 20:15

@JoeyThePrawn a very old woman dying is hardly a tragedy.

But it isn't half your holiday?

You can arrive on site 24 hours later. You still have 3 nights and up u it'll midnight Friday as per original booking?

I don't agree with what they are doing but they are offering a 30% discount for missing 25%.

I still think it should be 50% though or free rebook or cancellation.

FredrikaPeri · 13/09/2022 20:19

God they really are shite.

JustDanceAddict · 13/09/2022 20:20

Absolutely bonkers!

Whowhatwherewhenwhynow · 13/09/2022 20:21

It’s ridiculous. I think it would have been better to pay staff extra and not let down their customers, but close some restaurants/shops if needed.

it’s a money issue clearly.

for whoever says this doesn’t happen often…we’ll our new king is already in his 70s isn’t he? It might not be too long before the next.

With a child under 2 I’m not staying on at Center Parcs on the Friday until midnight so essentially I’m going to have to leave around 2pm on Friday to get home to put my child to bed at a decent time.

i agree I think they should offer a little more in the way of discount for the terribly short notice, what makes it worse is I’ve been checking their social media all week expecting some sort of announcement and when asked they confirmed up until today that they would be open and screening the funeral.

to let families down at such short notice is bad and I won’t be returning, currently looking on air b n b for other options.

I have pets too so have arranged pet sitters and unlike CP I want to actually give them a fair bit of notice of cancellation so unlikely to get my money back for Monday now.

TangoWhiskyAlphaTango · 13/09/2022 20:25

We were at Woburn last week when the Queen died, we thought it would be very quiet out and about on the evening but it wasnt people mostly carried on as normal. You have to be out of your rooms by 10am Monday if leaving but can stay on site until midnight. It was the only break I have had in 2 years and I would have really cheesed off if we couldnt have got in until 4pm Tuesday. Yes close restaurants etc for those hours but its madness to shut the whole place down!

Libertyqueen · 13/09/2022 20:28

I went very off peak (so cheaply) pre covid and it was good but no way would I go with all the limits on swimming and now this. I think they’ve really messed up.

Exactly this. We are arriving Monday (well we’re) and would have been happy to have brought our own food (knowing restaurants were closed) and spent the night in our lodge. Also would have been happy to just explore the outdoors with our children - one of the reasons we go to CP with young children is that it’s generally safe for them to explore outside.

it’s a disappointment, yes we can be on site from 10am but to not be able to access our accommodation for what is essentially another whole day is unfair.

PaddleBoardingMomma · 13/09/2022 20:33

The sheer fact that someone came up with this idea, a room full of people agreed with it AND some one at the top signed this off? Baffling. How does such a ludicrous plan get through, at no point did anyone stand up and say “well actually this is pure batshittery and will result in a huge backlash”

Invisimamma · 13/09/2022 20:36

What about people who don't have cars, most visiting CP do, but some people travel from much further afield from overseas or on domestic flights from likes of Inverness/Aberdeen (we've done this and taxi to CP). They won't just be able to change their travel plans on a whim and will be set to lose a lot of money as a result. Awful for everyone. Not a royalist at all but pretty sure the queen and her family wont have wanted this.
