What could Center Parcs actually do if people refuse to leave?

I've seen on the news that Center Parcs has announced that it will be closing on Monday for the funeral and anyone on a break will need to leave for that evening and find alternative accommodation for the night, affecting people who have got Friday to Friday breaks.

It doesn't affect me personally but I'm curious. What could Center Parcs actually do if people simply refuse to leave? I'm not sure the police would get involved as it could be considered a civil trespass matter potentially?

News this morning says they have U-turned and guests already there can now stay.

Will people with zero imagination, taste or research skills booking these overpriced, trashy, identikit holidays stuck in a park with 1000s bland dull other families all staying in the same bland lodges doing the same unimaginative activities finally realise what a piece of crap Centre Parcs are??!

Jesus, what a nasty spiteful comment. Is there any need for that? Guess what, people are allowed to like different things.

I go once a year with some friends. We are scattered across the UK, 3 in the North, 2 in the South East and 1 in the South West. We choose a central CP and meet there for a weekend. We go to the spa, which is fantastic, dick around on bikes and generally have a fun time. We all go on lots of lovely holidays other places too, it's just a very convenient break for a catch up with the girls.

Curlygirl06 · 14/09/2022 09:19

I've worked there before, and several of my friends and family work there now, so I feel I can clear up one point that people are making re bank holiday pay.
Staff are not paid any extra for the bank holidays, apart from Christmas day and New Years eve/ day, that depends on what time the extra hours start being paid. For example, NYE rate might start at 6pm and run until 12pm on New Years day. That's not to say that's the exact times, just a demonstration of how it works.

@DollyParton2 Nasty, snooty and uncalled for. We went last week with my parents and 3 teens. My Dad is in a wheelchair and has real mobility issues. We chose a lovely lodge right near the centre and had such a relaxing week as a family. You do you love and leave the rest of us to choose what we want to do with our hard earned cash, preferably without the sneering.

A sensible move.... but what about people who are staying Friday - Monday and or being offered any refund for a missed day on Monday?! The whole thing is crazy!

Partato · 14/09/2022 10:38

*aren't

RagingWoke · 14/09/2022 11:03

@DollyParton2 do enlighten us on what imaginative, well researched, affordable, classy, original holidays you have far away from the plebs and commoners?
Haven? Park dean?

Life's short, don't be a (massive) dick.

Come on @DollyParton2 you’ve suddenly gone quiet.. would love to know where I can take my family with young kids thats ‘classier’….? 😂

Vermillio · 14/09/2022 11:43

Why so angry @DollyParton2?! And so supercilious?

TugboatAnnie · 14/09/2022 11:52

Lol @DollyParton2!

Us unimaginative, bland families with no taste or research skills are entitled to holidays too you know! Drinking monkey urine on the Mongolian steppes might appeal to you but Center Parcs is perfect for us. All I can assume from your post is that you've never been or can't afford it.

Beautiful3 · 14/09/2022 12:13

That's crazy. I bet those customers will never book again.

We were at Haven when my DS was small when Princess Diana died. Alot of the stuff was closed but the restaurants and the accommodation was still open. We just went to the beach and found stuff to do.

In these very uncertain times I do not understand any business decision that closes in its entirety when you have paying guests and people paying for things.

Xenia · 14/09/2022 13:02

CP has now relented. Monday is apparently change over day normally, although I am sure some people take 2 weeks so would be there on that day. Lots of people will have arranged allkinds of things like time off work, dog sitting at home etc so it was unreasonable not even to let them move into the accommodation on that day even if all facilities like the pool are closed.

Housebytheseanc · 14/09/2022 14:14

I think sadly they are still sticking to the whole site being closed to those meant to be arriving Monday and also those leaving Monday.

they’ve only done a very small u-turn in allowing those staying Friday - Friday to stay in their lodges all day whilst the CEO parties mourns

wellhelloitsme · 14/09/2022 14:43

When they say people already there can stay but 'will need to remain in their lodges' what on earth does this mean? Even if the restaurants, pools etc are shut, are they planning on forcing them to stay inside and not go for walks etc? It's all so weird.

Short of putting guards outside the front and back of each lodge, I'm not sure how they can enforce it. Although it could turn out to be the biggest hide-and-seek game ever....all those trees will provide excellent cover.

Sounds quite fun! Maybe they should charge for it as a paid activity.

Yep they missed a trick there seeing as they aren't doing paid activities "out of respect". So they couldn't charge for it if they wanted to.

Oysterbabe · 14/09/2022 20:48

This really made me laugh.

Seems they've realised that they can't lock everyone up for the day and night. The lucky guests can now take walks!

Who on earth can afford to spend two weeks at Centre Parcs? Grin
